Real gamers are where the games are. On every platform. Not on sites fighting over which platform is the best, lying through their teeth and attacking consumers of a product they don't like out of some sort of petty spite.

Real gamers get to play all the awesome games while all the childish fanboys have to settle for 1/3 of all the games that get released. I pity them.

No. Stop misinterpreting my words. Buying a platform because it has all the games you like is completely different from refusing to buy a platform because it's not from the company you treat like a non profit organisation that cares more about you than the size of your wallet.

I don't believe anyone who says that there isn't at least one game they like on any other platform than their preferred platform. And those people who miss out on great games out of brand loyalty are the people I pity.

Im on a system that allows you to play true and fun games not just FPS games: Wii U. Wii U is not next-gen, it is current-gen and the PS3 and XB360 are last-gen. If you dont want to take it that way just say: Wii U is 8th gen and PS3 and XB360 are 7th gen.

And once again, we only succeed in proving that there is no real way to define what is a "real gamer". Goes for what is a "hardcore", "casual", or hell even just a "gamer". Everyone has their own definition, and about 90% of those definitions are good enough, the other 10% are just elitist nonsense.

ON Topic:
This article, while it has good intentions, is really missing the point. We as a community hold some semblense of power over what kinds of games we get to play, and the direction that the industry will go.

Our voices, when used as a community, and not as some tool for fanboy console war idiocy, have an impact on the future of our hobby.

To hell with the hit-seeking sites. Should we demand better? No. Should we expect better? Probably. Will we likely get better? Absolutely not. It's defeatist, but the "real gamer" by this article's definition isn't the one providing most of these sites with hits. Sure they are a part of it, but it's the masses of casual-moderate gamers(whatever that is) that hits on these sites. It's the massive flux of people who never comment, and likely don't read the comments, who will forever make this trend exist. This isn't some new thing for the internet, it's been around before the internet was even popular. It was around before there was a world wide web and html. It was around before this generation, and it will be around long after the next gen is passed.

Hit seeking sites won't go away as a whole until the media surrounding gaming decides it wants to be better. And gamers as a whole won't change until the culture that surrounds our community changes as a whole, from the "real gamer" all the way to the "casual" gamer.

Think of it this way. The only time the community as a whole was almost unanimously all on the same side, was right after the MS reveal. Not once in my over 30 years of gaming have I seen the community do such a thing. It didn't really take long for everyone to get back to their old habits though. This won't change though unless some other great catalyst brings it about. The truth is is that the "real gamers" are a extremely large community, with diverse interest, and hugely varying opinions. While I would like to see more respect among the community and it's members, I would hate for all that diversity and different ways of thinking to be lost because we feel the need to live under some sort of socially acceptable structure.
