For me, I don't get the hype with RDR. It was a good game but it did have fundamental flaws that stops me putting it in my top list.

I would have The Last of Us in their somewhere and instead of AC2 I would have AC:B as I thought it was a better game

snipab8t4342d ago

No way man RDR was epic.
My top 5 games of the gen (I have an xbox 360 so I can't speak for ps3 games)
1: GTA IV
2: Battlefield Bad company 2 (Multiplayer is the best of any shooter)
3: Red Dead Redemption
4: Gears of War 2 (horde mode was epic)
5: Fallout 3

brodychet4342d ago

RDR was amazing.

My List:
1. The Last of Us
2. Fallout 3
3. Dark Souls
4. LittleBigPlanet
5. Red Dead Redemption

Cheese_rawl4342d ago

I'm aware of that list being YOUR list, but GTA IV nowhere deserves to be GOG. I love Rockstar, but that game was the definition of overhype. Physics were awesome and innovative, but that was it, it was very bland and shallow compared to GTA:SA in it's time. I'm pretty sure GTA V is gonna change all that.

Philoctetes4342d ago

I have to agree with Cheese that GTA IV doesn't deserve to part of this discussion. In addition to the boring story, that game was semi-broken due to horrible checkpointing, bad shooting mechanics, and "friends" who pester you to play stupid mini-games.

Obviously there's some role here for personal preference, but GTA IV just wasn't a particularly good game.

trafalger4342d ago

demon soul
gran turismo 5
red dead redemption
mario galaxy
xcom (played it on pc but its on consoles)
mass effect series (played it on pc)
valkyria chronicles
trials evolution (played on pc but also on x360)
last of us

nix4342d ago

i love you guys for saying GTAIV wasn't great...

Wrightylfc884342d ago

Gta4 was the worst GTA ever!

TeaRunner4342d ago

Call of Duty 4 or Oblivion takes it for me.

HammadTheBeast4342d ago

I don't understand. How does Condemned become one of the greatest game of the generation, yet not The Last of Us?

snipab8t4341d ago

Sure, disagree with me because I didn't include The Last of Us and had xbox games in the list.

Also, I would say that for me, the best games of the generation are the ones that were the most fun to play, and not necessarily the most 'perfect' game. GTA IV was undoubtedly the most fun I have had in a game just playing with mates with the cheats on and just messing around.

mikeslemonade4341d ago (Edited 4341d ago )

You're list is incorrect if it doesn't start like this:

1. COD4
2. Uncharted 2

Reason why.. they are so good that almost every game copies elements from those two games this generation.

Yi-Long4341d ago

Not going to list a whole top 10, but many of my absolute favourite games this gen have been arcade games, like Trials Evo, ilomilo, Super Meat Boy, Mark of the Ninja, Journey, etcetc. :)

InTheZoneAC4341d ago

gta iv was really fun, but not the best experience, not even close

my list would contain:

-uncharted series, mainly uncharted 2 as the best in the series

-the last of us

-fallout/skyrim, they're very flawed but the depth, size and fun factor are up there at the top

-socom confrontation, was the best online shooter available this gen but lack of support at the end of it's life and cheaters ruined another socom. Look for H-Hour to take the top spot with ps4.

I have a feeling though with GTA V that it'll be part of this list once released.

snipab8t4341d ago

GTA IV has a metascore of 98 making it the highest rated game of the generation so I am not the only person with this opinion.

RDR isn't a perfect game exactly, but I think it has certain qualities that make it a genuinely great one. Its gameworld is one of the most immersive and compelling I've ever encountered, and the story is surprisingly deep.

iamnsuperman4342d ago (Edited 4342d ago )

"the story is surprisingly deep"

That was my main issue (there are other issues) with RDR. I know I am alone on this but the story tried too hard to have a lot of emotion that it totally forgot about the momentum part. The ending really sums up the poor pacing throughout the game

HeavenlySnipes4342d ago

I didn't really enjoy RDR

The gameplay pretty much stayed the same the entire 16 hours I played it, with the enemies not getting any harder or easier to kill. The redundancy in the missions because painfully obvious because of it. The story isn't deep either. The story more or less is (without adding too much spoilers): The government kidnapped your family and forces you to kill your old partners in crime to get them back.

Thats it, I don't see whats deep about it.

The final portion of the game was easily the worst imo. They try to establish character bonds between John and his family within 3-4 5 minute missions with each of them before going into a pseudo emotional ending. Before finishing the game, people on the internet were claiming how emotional that ending was; after I finished the game my first thoughts were that either I'm turning into Dexter and losing my emotions, or the ending wasn't as impactful as people were claiming.

The game had good points; the day/night cycle, how they handled crime, horse riding animations, locational damage and the pretty world

ILive4342d ago (Edited 4342d ago )

Red dead redemption was a little too repetitive with the gameplay, that is why i wouldnt put it as game of the generation. It was a decent game overall, but it lack some variety. I also agree with superman, the ending kind of came out ot no where, especially with how the story was progressing. It did ruin the pacing.

KabalsHookblades4342d ago

Brotherhood was one of my favorite games, along with sleeping dogs, Skyrim, among others

MASTER_RAIDEN4341d ago

not loving sleeping dogs after about 5 hours with it. I want to keep going so bad but im finding it pretty hard to stay motivated

Ezz20134342d ago (Edited 4342d ago )

RDR was awesome by far the best R* game i have played this whole gen

my list (in no ordor):
1.The last of us
2.RDR/Uncharted 2
3.MGS4
4.Demon/Darksouls
5.God Of War 3
6.Fallout 3
7.Batman games
8.Infamous 2
9.Lord Of Shadows
1.Bioshock

snipab8t4341d ago

Bioshock was the most overrated game EVER!

monkey6024341d ago

Not one person has listed Skate. That game was amazing, it refreshed and innovated a tired genre and it was pure addiction. Disappointed to see it so overlooked

fermcr4342d ago (Edited 4342d ago )

My top 10+ in no particular order:

Witcher franchise
Bioshock franchise
RDR
Civ 5
Starcraft 2
GTA4 (and probably GTA5)
Skyrim
Last of Us
Fallout 3 franchise
Uncharted franchise
Gears franchise
Mass Effect franchise
Portal franchise
Tomb Raider
GOW franchise
Batman franchise
Borderlands franchise
Deus Ex
Infamous franchise
Dishonored
Max Payne 3
Sleeping Dogs
Far Cry 3

and probably a couple of other games I'm missing.

A lot of good games this generation.

FuzzyPooka4342d ago

Oh my god, yes!!! You must be the one other person on this planet who realizes Brotherhood was simply a graphically and functionally better game! It fixes all the flaws of 2, and the story doesn't have any aliens or bull like that in it.

Jyndal4342d ago

Uh, all those "aliens or bull like that" is the core of the AC franchise. Without those, it would just be Prince of Persia 2.0.

SnotyTheRocket4342d ago

My List:

1. Deus Ex Human Revolution
2. The Last of Us
3. Uncharted 2
4. MGS4
5. Battlefield 3 (Still play it to this day)

HammadTheBeast4342d ago

I'm still playing Battlefield 3, but I feel as if the game has deteriorated after the constant patching.

jakmckratos4342d ago

RDR was fantastic shaddup your mouth. You don't get too many cinematic and WELL TOLD stories within the context of a huge open world with tons of crap to do.

-Superman-4342d ago

BioShock - Agreed
Fallout 3 - No, STALKER is better.
Condemned: Criminal Origins
Assassin’s Creed II - No, same mission over and over again. Boring.
The Walking Dead - Good story but very bad gameplay... No
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves - Agreed
Dark Souls - Very hard, but special, Yes, agreed.
Mass Effect 2 - First game is more important.
Red Dead Redemption - Agreed

SnotyTheRocket4342d ago

Did you even play Assassin's Creed 2?

Pope_Kaz_Hirai_II4342d ago

Stalker the most underrated game this gen.

4342d ago
The_Devil_Hunter4342d ago

1) The Last of Us
2) The Last of Us
3) Uncharted 2
4) Uncharted 3
5) Arkham City
6) God Of War III
7) Metal Gear Solid 4
8) Castlevania Lords Of Shadow
9) Metal Gear Rising
10) FIFA 10

The Last Of Us is without a doubt he best game I have ever played.

ala_7674342d ago

ur crazy telling RDR dont make u go hype! Its the best game ever in this gen! Then comes AC2

4342d ago
4342d ago
showtimefolks4341d ago

last of us
RDR
MGS peace walker
MGS4
Yakuza series
Uncharted 2
Fallout 3
Mass effect
God of war 3

Dfooster4341d ago

Yeah at the time of its release those fundamental flaws were picked up by everyone but seems to have been forgotten about over the last few years.

It's a good game but not something that stayed with me like say the mass effect series did.

rela82me4341d ago

For me RDR was a great story to be told. The gameplay was fitting for the genre, however the characters in that game made me feel as though these were truly real people. They had a sense of weight in the world, it had everyone feeling the emotions of a cowboy in great epic western.

John was so different from us as players yet drew such a connection with the audience. It drew on our understanding of morality, and you felt the weight of his past.

Hands down in my top 3. It may sound generic but Skyrim and Halo also make that list as well. Halo 2 was something that got me into FPS but was not of this generation. I love the Bungie iterations of the game.

I can only imagine what the next generation has in store for us.

Sizzon4342d ago

Great list, I must say I really did enjoy Assassin's Creed 2, but not so much the other games in the franchise. Revelations was ok.

DxTrixterz4342d ago

My list.
1.Mass Effect 2
2.Red Dead Redempion
3.GTA4
4.Fallout 3
5.Mortal Kombat
6.Battlefield Bad Company 2
7.Skyrim
8.Tekken Tag Tournament 2
9.COD4 MW
10. Dead Rising 2 OTR

Y_51504342d ago

What systems did you own during this generation?
Not one exclusive game are on that list. O_O

DxTrixterz4342d ago (Edited 4342d ago )

Xbox 360 and PC but really regret not having PS3 as well.

HammadTheBeast4342d ago

Yes. A fighting game fan.

Sadly, there weren't any great Soul Calibur games this Gen.

PeEsFour4341d ago (Edited 4341d ago )

Well you have clearly no PS3.

golding894342d ago

Red dead redemption no doubt belong on this list.

That game was awesome. Bad ending for John. but will remember the experience forever.

brodychet4342d ago

wtf, how?

Those games were all fantastic.

Pilo and the Holobook review - ChristCenteredGamer

CCG writes - "Overall, while this is not my sort of game, it's still got a cute aesthetic and is safe for all ages. Technically, some obtuse puzzle solutions aside, it's solid. Morally, there is nothing objectionable. If you want a cute chill-out game or something for a young child, then this title is recommended."
