Saints Row 4 isn't launching on the next-generation consoles as Volition looks to learn from its previous mistakes.

One of the FEW, if not the ONLY game with aliens that I am actually EAGER to put my hands on :D the dubstep gun is going to be awesome

pierce4342d ago

The dubstep gun is the only thing that could make me play Call of Duty again...

The Dubstep gun is the #1 reason I probably won't ever play this game. Not for me. I'm glad it exists for others to enjoy though.

This is an interesting take on a game which I think would have done really well on the next generation, but I can't wait to see what it looks like when it comes to the PS4 and XBOner. It's going to be awesome!

Because Volition is lazy , most of the game was SR3's DLC anyway, If they were to bring it to next gen it would need to be made from scratch with a next gen engine and they would have buncha improvements that they can add to the game regarding AI and physics and stuff, but like i said, LAZY. at least that's my opinion.

RavageX4342d ago

The man speaks the truth. SR3 itself was just a bunch of random nonsense thrown together.

That works for some of you, but I want a continuation of SR 1 and 2.

Yeah I can't think of any other reason you wouldn't want to launch on a next-gen console. I mean what could go wrong with developing on completely new tech and hanging your hopes entirely on early adopters? It'd really be a guaranteed hit too, it's not like there's some OTHER sandbox game releasing around that same time that you're already competing with that is already guaranteed to cannibalize your sales.

There's a big difference between not wanting to take big financial risks and being lazy, and there's nothing wrong with using an engine you're already familiar with. People didn't use to expect you to remake your entire engine with shiny new graphics back in the Infinity Engine days, and I am prepared to childishly insult anyone over the internet who claims BG2 and IWD2 were lazy because of it.

If they make a good game ( hopefuply like saints row 2) then most likley it will sale. Re-selling DLC is ridiculous.

Hydralysk4342d ago (Edited 4342d ago )

Planescape Torment, Psychonauts, Freespace 2, Beyond Good & Evil, Grim Fandango and many, many more would like to have a talk with you.

A quality game does not automatically equal good sales, it never has, and it never will, and this goes for other media as well. If we correlated quality with popularity then CoD and Twilight are some of the best things ever made.

Well said.

Not sure where people got the idea that Volition even had the financial freedom to develop a new engine while their publisher was filing for bankruptcy.

Its like people think everybody has R* or EA type funds to make the newest and shiniest game, but they don't.

Frankly, SR4 is better than the franchise being literally dead. SR4 allows for an SR5, where a DLC or an unfinished engine may not have.

wait wait, so every game released on current gen this year is lazy, well I guess dark souls 2 and GTAV's developers are extremely lazy

Master-H4342d ago (Edited 4342d ago )

Umm no, they weren't originally DLC for their recent games, and you can watch DS 2 or GTA V's videos and notice how much improvements they made, GTA V is huge and looks to have corrected all the wrongs from IV therefore improvement , Dark Souls imo is already near perfect but they still went the extra mile and made a new engine which you can notice by the fantastic particle effects and lighting from the gameplay vids, they also added dedicated servers etc bottom line they are trying to make a better game.

Another example is PES2014 , instead of rehashing the same stuff from PES2013 which they could, they are making it from scratch on freakin FOX ENGINE just for current gen, that's dedication.

Saints Row devs on the other hand seem that they didnt learn from their mistakes , it's just more of the same ,even the game world is the same ,they took the crazy parts from SR3 that fans didn't like that much and made more of them for SR4, anyway that's my personal opinion , feel free to disagree man.

Volition's Saints Row 4 PC upgrade was meant to be a make-good, but it broke the game instead

Remember this year's Saints Row(opens in new tab)? Volition would probably prefer that you didn't, which might go some way to explaining why the studio recently decided to upgrade everyone's copy of Saints Row 4(opens in new tab) to its full-fat Re-elected Edition, containing all the game's story and cosmetic DLC and even introducing cross-play between Steam, Epic, and GOG versions of the game.

Unfortunately, that upgrade seems to have backfired, and players now report a myriad of bugs with their new version of SR4. Both the Saints Row Steam forums(opens in new tab) and subreddit(opens in new tab) are filled with players complaining of broken saves, crashes, and mods failing to function. It's also received a few hundred negative Steam reviews(opens in new tab) since the update. If it's succeeded in washing the taste of Saints Row (2022) out of players' mouths, it's only because it tastes even worse.

I wonder if Volition's getting reorged under Gearbox impacted the quality of their release.

i can't help but laugh at this comment. Gearbox can't even run themselves.
