To Roswell with love: the eight greatest alien invasion games

Guardian - As search engine fans may well have noticed, Monday's Google doodle is celebrating the 66th anniversary of the Roswell incident, when aliens crash-landed into the New Mexico desert, quickly disguising their craft as a surveillance balloon and themselves as dummies in order to fool the authorities. Or something. Anyway, whatever did happen out there in 1947, the event has had a huge impact on science fiction literature, movies and, of course, video games ever since.

There was this one game for PS1 I can't remember the name of. It had these tentacle type things on the ground, and you played as a women who was infected by one of them to become half alien. There were live action cut scenes and you had to feed off the meat of other animals/enemies you killed.

It was awesome.

Exactly lol. It was so bad it was good.

I would consider Destroy All Humans among the top alien invasion games, it was unique that you get to play as the alien....and not generic soldier dude #1

Good list. Half Life, the Resistance series, and XCOM: Enemy Unknown were what came to mind when I saw the title. Halo 1 and 2 bored me and I didn't make it to Mass Effect 3, also because of boredom, but they are undoubtedly loved by many. There was a flawed but still very enjoyable game on PS1 called Broken Helix that always comes to mind when I think about alien games...

Nothing will capture the true feeling of an alien invasion more than the Resistance series.

No. Mass Effect 3 was not a good alien invasion movie. Not even by a Micheal Bay standards. Explosions withstanding.

A Matter Of Trust: What The Game Industry Should Do To Win Gamers Back

Skewed and Reviewed have written an Opinion Piece covering issues in the gaming industry, how current issues were issues years ago, and what can be done to help restore consumer trust.

anast1d 12h ago

Nothing. It's up to the gamers to stop consuming content from companies that they don't agree with.

Garethvk23h ago

How do you know if you agree with it or not unless you play it? Which without conventions forces gamers to rely on trailers. Perhaps Demos should be made more frequently. But companies need to do better as well.

anast23h ago

Wait until release. Watch Gameplay. Exercise patience.

Garethvk22h ago

But is that not what they have now? Tons of gameplay or are you talking about watching actual gamers play it versus the trailers and streams? The big issue is that some companies pay streamers and influencers and they create content but for me; that is hardly a fair, unbiased, and factual look at a game.

Get rid of the suits in the industry and job done!!

Garethvk23h ago

They usually are attached to the money sadly. It would be nice to have gamers in charge but you have so much money invested that business people are needed. Hence the issue; you need people who know business but are also gamers who know have an eye to the community. It sounds simple in theory that if you give gamers quality games that they want to play; money will be made. But that is not always so.
