Hopefully all the nice normal features will be free still. and the cool not so super needy features are the ones that they charge for.. i'll gladly pay for the top tier if this come to light.

Gaikai brings so much to the table that it would be easy for Sony to incentify people to subscribe to its benefits. What we have now for free will pale into insignificance when the PS4 finally hits store shelves, so, yes, there is no reason whatsoever for NOT offering what we already get for free.
PSVita  +   512d ago
I think the share feature will be part of the paid service.
Rainstorm81  +   512d ago
@vita

I hope not especially with there being a share button on the controller and (correct me if im wrong) a chip built in for video streaming it has got to be a basic feature.

As a gamer I hope it's free of course but they need to make their money back and as long as there's still free online and Netflix I don't mind paying for the extra stuff. If they can do something like Netflix/gamefly and I pay a monthly fee for access to all previous ps1-3 games they'd win hands down.

Gaikai is nice but not everyone has unlimited usage for their internet.

The extra chip isn't powerful enough for encoding, the extra chip is for background tasks like updating/downloading/uploading .
nukeitall  +   512d ago
Have any of you actually used Gaikai or OnLive?

I don't see how anyone can claim cloud streamed gaming brings so much to the table with it's artifact full on screen and laggy experience.

Even on top notch fiber optic connection, there is significant lag. Cloud might be something working in the far future, but right now it is sub-par and I personally won't waste my time with it.

Too many good games to be looking at encoding artifacts on screen with unresponsive controls.

The Share button will be free because its free marketing for Sony. People uploading videos to Facetube and Youbook is great publicity and will spread the word of a new release

are you freaking kidding me?

"The extra chip isn't powerful enough for encoding"

really?

So the key to all of this will be the integration of an ARM processor into an AMD APU, specifically ARM’s Cortex-A5 CPU. The Cortex-A5 is ARM’s simplest ARMv7 application processor, and while it’s primarily designed for entry-level and other lower-performance devices, as it turns out it fits AMD’s needs quite nicely since it won’t be used as a primary application processor.

http://www.anandtech.com/sh...

and see for your self

The Cortex-A5 processor provides full instruction and feature compatibility with the higher performance Cortex-A8, Cortex-A9, and Cortex-A15 processors - all the way down to the operating system level. The Cortex-A5 processor also maintains backwards application compatibility with Classic ARM processors including the ARM926EJ-S, ARM1176JZ-S, and ARM7TDMI®.

http://www.arm.com/products...

I would say perfect for Background downloading and for any feature that Sony would need this "Application" processor for a games console Hell the CortexA5!

Alone:

It is intended to replace the ARM9 and ARM11 cores for use in low-end devices.

you know the 3DS is an Arm 11 powered device, right?

the 3DS has a Dual core Arm 11 and you already see what it can do. and this PS4 APU Has a Cortex-A5 already in it!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

and exactly why is this important?

"Even if AMD just intends to use ARM for TrustZone today, this opens the door to comprehensive native ARM code execution in the future if AMD wanted to go that way; but at the same time this could end up being as far as AMD ever goes"

you know what else uses and Arm Cortex based Processor? the Freaking PSVita!!

LOL

These 5 words will reassure you:
It's free on VITA, therefore.....
MasterCornholio  +   512d ago
Well these online features are free on Vita and therefore will be free on PSN for all devices.

1. Online Multiplayer
2. Cross Game/platform chat

Plus all the other features that are free on the PS3.

However i dont expect all of Gaikais features to be free except the ability to stream demos and similar items.

But hey if Sony can provide the share function for free that would be fantastic.

EDIT: Wait a second.

""With one subscription you have access to thousands of games - that's our dream," he added."

Thats probably the premium subscription which will probably function like Netflix.

Exactly I think it refers more to the extra features involving gaikai and different gaming models...... simple multiplayer and chat should remain free

I think Sony is aiming for the stars with the PS4, if they can establish a Netflix subscription model for gaming and a service of this kind is only available on PS4, it will be a game changer.

Imagine tons of PS1 2 3 and 4 games available under one subscription service freely playable..... It's the console counter move for Steam.............if they can implement it
GribbleGrunger  +   512d ago
We may see a few Gakai features for free on top of what we already get. Traffic is important to Sony so being able to increase that traffic gives them the opportunity to promote the more advanced features of Gaikai. Let them through the door for free and then offer them little perks is probably going to be their strategy.

Online gaming to remain free.
amiga-man  +   512d ago
Who disagreed lol what makes you think online gaming won't be free?
boldscot  +   512d ago
Someone who just renewed his X-box Live subscription!
TAURUS-555  +   512d ago
yes ¡¡¡

thank you sony.

This is old. These are quotes from a week ago shortly after the conference and in terms adding tiered subscriptions they was speaking in a hypothetical context.
Dragos75  +   512d ago
I knew they would end up charging for this. They would be crazy not too. Sony wants that money too.
AzaziL  +   512d ago
hmm, pay to play online or pay to get a bunch of games monthly, which one sounds more greedy...
Dragos75  +   512d ago
They both do but one is more business savvy. Sony won't charge for online because they never have, and that would come back to urt them. It's not because they don't want to. They have to find ways of making money from these services.
nevin1  +   512d ago
I said many times over the years that at some point Sony would have model.

Sure it seems it online will still be free but I won't be surprised if it isn't.
Rainstorm81  +   512d ago
"With one subscription you have access to thousands of games - that's our dream," he added

That's my dream as well....Sony seems to be trying to create a gaming version of Netflix
Silly gameAr  +   512d ago
That would be freaking awesome.
Toon_Link  +   512d ago
I'll drink to that!
lovegames718  +   512d ago
As i have said before and a few others as well prior to Ps4 reveal when Gakai was acquired we all knew it was aiming to bring a Netflix game type service to Ps4. The only ppl thinking otherwise were the pseudo analyst on here that always have a negative opinion about something and know it all. Common sense doesn't always prevail on this site. You have a streaming game service of course they will offer streaming games under a service irregardless of whether or not everyone has fast bandwidth to accommodate it.

On that note i have Verizon fios 120 dl speeds and i cant wait to get my hands on the top tier service for the Ps4.
