Next-Gen rumors are flying left and right and it seems just about every day we hear something new. This latest teaser by Sony though may reveal it all sooner than we expected, and possibly even before Microsoft reveals its own next-gen console.

ps4 is the future, i cant wait but i dont think they will talk about ps4 on feb 20. i kno its coming tho but i will be doing whatever i can to have this ps4 at launch . "Next gen starts when ps4 is here" a little side note. : i hope and pray that they bring back the original ps1 startup sound for ps4 it will be amazing.
Yeah, maybe... but they are advertising it as "See the Future", and they're kinda making a big deal out of it. So it's highly likely. Announce now and get everyone hyped, then show the hell out of the thing at E3. They can clarify some basics now so there is no confusion at E3.
It can only get bigger and better from here on. Hopefully, JRPG gets some extra lovin' next generation with the help of Level 5, Tri Ace, Sony Japan and others.
Everything points to a PS4 reveal but I must say, I was hoping for an E3 unveiling. There is something magical about E3 when you announce new consoles!
"See the Future" makes me think that this in some way touches the 4K experience. With the familiar PlayStation shapes, perhaps the PS4 is the first 4K media player to hit the market? If so, it seems a little early for that. So I'm hoping that the rest of the machine is a powerhouse.

I think they pulled in the date. But I'm excited. We'll see. Stopping PS2 production, what they do with the PS3 right now and this is quite an indication that they'll shift to their next platform. PS3 will replace the PS2 by end of the year. Makes too much sense.
Can't wait man, between what Nintendo has planned for the Wii U(we don't even know what retro is working on as yet) and what Sony has in store for us with it's new console, not to mention games like The Last of Us, Beyond, GTA V, Bioshock etc. and I believe 2013 will be an amazing year for gamers.

Well if its a PS4 announcement then sure MS would "win" E3 2013? As they would announce there console there where as Sony would just be showing games. Even if Sonys lineup would blow MS away. Ms would have there new console, and we all KNOW how important "winning" E3 is to some people on here :p.

Not really. SONY doesnt need much for a reveal, they could only make the meeting last 1 minute, officially say that the PS4 exists and full detail will be shown on E3. Thats it, immense hype, leaving MS to eat dust till E3.

no, the destination playstation event is on the 25th and its being held in Scottsdale with full transportation being provided by Sony. Why host a separate event days before in New York? If it was for that, just leave it at the event.
So this one will be in New York. What better place to announce a possible new hardware in basically 'the center of the universe', almost everyone seems to do it. Nintendo did it with the Wii U.

The 25th is a "retailer only" event. Press isn't allowed at the event. So its more along the lines of Sony "selling" their products to retailers. New things come about but its normally just packaged deals or bundles etc.... like the pink PSP. Sometimes new games are announced to draw attention to the products.
So basically if PS4 is revealed on the 20th, then the 25th will be used to create promotions and what not with the retailers.
Lets also not forget the 20th is called "PlayStation Community Day" and every time Sony has hosted this they announced hardware. Last year it was in LA I believe and they announced the Vita.
I'm nowhere close to ready for a PS4. Until I've played games that were announced earlier this gen then I don't really care about getting another console that promises more games and either doesn't deliver or delivers them at the end of PS4's gen.
I have yet to play a good Final Fantasy game this gen and if that's any sign of what will happen next gen then I couldn't care less about the next gen (outside of what I play on PC I guess).
If I don't play some of the games that have been announced in E3s years before on the PS3 then I won't bother buying a PS4 at all (or if in some rare case I do then I'll wait until it's $150-200 first).

Its PlayStation 4, or some new revamp with Gaikai, its obviously important.
The reason I say that is because they are hosting "destination playstation" on the 25th which is the retailers only event. They probably want to show off the product there, so they need to beat that event with this. Otherwise why not wait and why not just use Destination PlayStation?

If Sony announces the PS4 now it will be a huge blow to both Nintendo and Microsoft. Nintendo because PlayStation fans that were on the fence about about buying a Wii U will jump to see what it has to offer and Microsoft because Sony would have gotten the jump on them and could lose them several advantages including their fanbase that might prefer to buy a PS4 now rather then wait for the Next Xbox.It will completely throw them off balance. It all would depend on what the PS4 has to offer though.But if it was a sweet deal then they better watch out.Or it could just be Sony talking about what the future holds for the PS3 and VITA.

This isn't like it was with the PS1/PS2, there isn't the same brand loyalty as in the past. I remember Sony making claims that next generation started when they said so, but it just isn't that way anymore.
Some people buy whatever comes out first, sure some are brand loyalists, some people will buy what is cheapest. If Sony announces a PS4 in Feb with a 2014 launch, or late 2013 launch, it might not be the disadvantage that you think for Microsoft, they would have seen what Sony had to offer and will have a chance to top it in terms of spectacle and what they show.
I think it's great to see people excited over new hardware though, things had gotten so stagnant.
@Jek_porkins I believe that Sony showed other company's just how successful 'hardcore'games could be with the PS2 and PS1 and Microsoft saw a gap in the market for a competitor which wasn't there before. Ground may be lost when competitors are introduced that's not unlikely however I steel feel the word 'PlayStation' is synonymous with gaming
It has nothing to do with brand loyalty.If Sony launches their system first before Microsoft it will give them an advantage no matter how you try to spin it.People waiting for the next gen will now have the PS4 as well as the Wii U as an option and if Microsoft doesn't follow suit they will be behind giving them both a chance to build up their foundation and begin building their fanbase. And if Microsoft has already had their own next gen console in the works they won't be able to just simply one up Sony.What will they do? Change the whole structure of their console if Sony has something good or appealing?
That was before online gaming changed everything though. Now upgrading to new hardware isn't simply that, there is continuity with your online community. Backwards compatibility was always an issue, but now you have all your friends and trophies to carry over. As insignificant as that may seem, it'll play a bigger factor than you might think.

We don't know for sure what Sony has in store as far as Orbis is concerned, but Microsoft has long been rumored to release the next Xbox in 2013, being that the Xbox 360 is the oldest hardware out right now, going on 8 years. Just because Sony might announce their next console first, doesn't mean they are releasing it first. They could be trying to use the old Sony tactic of trying to force people to hold off on buying the competition.

Well, there's no doubt this teaser is for PS4 announcement. The event takes place a few days before PlayStation Destination. They will show PS4 before it to prevent leaks.
