PSXExtreme: Lost Planet: Extreme Condition Preview

Arnold Katayev of PSXExtreme writes: Recently, Capcom has sent PSX Extreme a nearly complete build of Lost Planet for the PlayStation 3. Now, admittedly, I never played the Xbox 360 version, and the reactions I've heard were rather mixed. So my expectations were uncertain. I've been spending some time with it for the past few days, and I'm still not very sure on what to think.

If you enjoyed the Xbox 360 game, you'll likely enjoy the PS3 version more, as it features a host of extras - such as all of the downloadable and extra content from the Xbox 360 and PC versions. That includes the Resident Evil 4 camera view, extra maps, and extra characters (Mega Man, Frank West, Joe). Furthermore, Luka is a playable character for the PlayStation 3 version, as well.

Visually, Lost Planet features some iffy textures, as well as a framerate that becomes rather cumbersome in the snowier portions of the game. The image quality is fairly clean and doesn't sport any annoying aliasing issues, or screen tearing. But I don't always feel like I'm looking at a next-generation title when playing Lost Planet. Perhaps the game simply isn't aging very well, after all, the graphics engine is about two-years old.

Why is Capcom even bothering with this?...it won't sell well...I have yet to meet one PS3 owner that was actually hoping to get a port of this...and, like mentioned in the article, the engine is not aging very well...it didn't look that good on the 360 a year ago...and looks no better on the PS3 now...

Dear Capcom,
show more of RE5. Make bionic commando better than what we are anticipating. and announce Dead Rising 2. Other than that, please stop talking.

Not another one of these “treatment” articles

Remasters are still popular so... yeah.

I personally like when there are remastered compilations. More than just remaking one game but to take a couple (or more) in a series and remake them as one nice compilation. Viewtiful Joe comes to mind. to have a full remake of all the games on one disc would be sweet.

I know many want to see Powerstone come back (as do I) but i'd go even deeper into their vault and bring back darkstalkers, cyberbots or even project justice / rival schools combo.

This isn’t a remaster it’s a remake

galmi1950d ago

well for me there's
dino crisis
clock tower
haunting ground
resident evil 3
the whole onimusha series (except 4)
chaos legion
crimson tears
ring of red

PapaBop1950d ago

Imagine Clock Tower done in a similar style to RE7 in first person with VR support.. that would be so so damn good.

SuperDuke12901950d ago

That would be superawesome

JonTheGod1950d ago

I loved Haunting Ground. Very underrated.

Adexus1950d ago

Onimusha instantly came to mind.

JonTheGod1950d ago

Already happening (although it's a remaster as opposed to a remake).

Adexus1950d ago

Yeeeah, I definitely wouldn't say that's nearly on the level the RE2 Remake is.

This is a horrible list!
There are a load of titles far more deserving of a remaster than these picks. Seriously ! Dead Rising, Lost Planet and Dragons Dogma aren't even old games and have had recent sequels already!

Top of the list should be Dino Crisis,
I'll accept Resi 3 because I'm hoping that happens.
Clock tower and Haunting Ground are good choices too, It would be nice to be able to get them for a non extortionate rate.

Shadow of Rome was an amazing game and I'd love a remaster or new entry but I genuinely don't think they'd get away with it today unless it was massively toned down

Vetalka831950d ago

Resident Evil 3 yes,Dino Crisis games?Yes.Onimusha 2 hell yes.never got to play Powerstone properly so yeah i would love to see it remade, others on that list i just dont care about.

Lost Planet: Extreme Condition was released in Europe in 2007 as an Xbox 360 exclusive, though it would later come to other systems as well.
