Assassin's Creed 3 Review: Declination of Independence | Joystiq

Joystiq: "I expect most players will come for Connor's story in Assassin's Creed 3, and they'll find that its well told but detrimental to player agency. It's sad to see the game lose sight of those ideals in favor of bombast, bomb blasts and pig herding. Assassin's Creed 3 is the kind of game that's just good enough to make you wish it was better. (Just don't even get me started on the ending.)"

Welp, that leaves us with Mass Effect 3, Dishonored, and Borderlands 2 (Halo 4 could be added to that list) for Game of the Year contenders. It wouldn't surprise me if each game won a few on different sites, but Dishonored and Mass Effect 3 seem to be the leaders.

Who do you think will win the most? And which game is your personal GOTY (so far)?

Lord_Sloth4195d ago

I'm still leaning towards Dragon's Dogma.

kwyjibo4195d ago (Edited 4195d ago )

Reckon XCOM is in there with a shout.

Unless Halo or BLOPS2 blows everyone away (which I doubt), I think you'll see a split between the publications.

Oldman1004195d ago

I was expecting slightly better reviews for AC3 but I'm sure it'll still be a GOTY contender. Journey is my PGOTY so far.

grailly4195d ago

mine might be journey or xcom, Xcom would be at the top if it weren't for the general bugginess

maelstromb4195d ago (Edited 4195d ago )

My GOTY would be Dark Souls: Prepare to Die, as it released just a couple of months ago on PC. Although, runners-up for me are XCom and Hotline Miami.

Darksiders 2 > all those you just listed. except maybe borderlands.

GuyManDude4195d ago

My list isn't based off of which games I think deserve to win GOTY, but rather which games were reviewed highest this year and as such are the most likely to win. With a lot of big games getting shuffled back to 2013 this year is pretty up for grabs.

My personal GOTY is Borderlands 2, but that's because I've had the most fun with it. Playing with two of my friends online has been a lot of fun. Lots of chaos, joking around, etc.

Yui_Suzumiya4195d ago

Dishonored, Halo 4, Borderlands 2, Mass Effect 3 and Silent Hill: Downpour

TheSaint4195d ago

Far Cry 3 will be GoTY, probably.

Games with the dumbest NPCs

Non-playable characters in certain games are meme material, thanks to their foolish behavior. These are the big-budget games with the dumbest NPCs.

Bethesda makes the most consistently stupid NPCs, like really bad... yet I still can't help but love playing their games. Guilty pleasure, I guess. *sigh* 😩

Flawlessmic265d ago

How did redfall not make the cut.

Every Bethesda game and Every Halo game. This list needed to have Cyberpunk somewhere.

My first thought was the safe rooms in the resident evil series. When you hear that enchanting music you know you’re safe.

Killer2020UK271d ago

I literally just came here to post this. That music in the Resi 1 safe rooms is playing in my head.

I was thinking TLOU work benches. Although I remember one time where it was a false security.

Perfect. 👌👌

I'd add the top of my highrise apartment in GTA Online. That calm, quiet peace, just knowing as soon as I step out that door I will be bombarded by 8 and 12 year olds calling each other n**** and f****, trolled by combat jets and rocket launchers.

The entire map of SotC is peaceful as hell. Used to just ride around exploring it.

mastershredder271d ago (Edited 271d ago )

Afterlife in Cyberpunk 2077 is a peaceful area? Erm, hands down and very hard to miss, Misty Olszewski's Esoterica is the absolute epitome of peaceful areas in that game.

The "last of us" deer location i found to be a welcoming respite. It was nice to not have someone trying to eat me.

RPGer270d ago

Kingdom Hearts tend to present half peaceful areas and most of them are amazing.

'Assassin’s Creed III': Ten Years Later

With the recent reveal of Assassin’s Creed Mirage and the promise that the series will return to its roots, there hasn’t been a better time to get stuck into Assassin’s Creed’s back catalog, whether it’s replaying an old favorite or getting lost in previously looked-over classic.

Ten years later, we miss the old you, Assassin's Creed.

I really enjoyed Assassins Creed 3. My only complaint was that I didn’t enjoy when I had to switch from Connor to Desmond. It’s a personal preference, but Connor’s story was just more fun for me.

On a side note, Black flag was the most enjoyable of the AC games I played.
