Do Graphics Really Need to Get Any Better?

Leviathyn.com | I still remember the first time I got to the top of a Nepalese hotel in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. After a long and arduous journey up to the top of the building, I was greeted with one of the most beautiful vistas I had ever seen in a video game. I could see off into the beautiful green mountains, and had a fantastic view of the war-torn metropolis below. (Crysis, PC, PS3, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Xbox 360)

Sacrafices had to be made for Uncharted 3 Graphics slightly due to 3D.

isn't this what Nintendo said about the wii? We all know how that went, DAMN!
taquito  +   996d ago
on pc they get better every year, and since 2007, crysis 1, nothing on console has ever even come close

ps3 peaked with uncharted 2, xbox 360 peaked with gears 2/3

What is this opposite day?
PC peaked with Crysis 1 in 2007. (excluding games using Mods)

PS3 and 360 have been continually getting better every year

Refer to Last of Us/GoW and Halo 4

lol...ur a funny little girl

uncharted 3 looked FAR worse than 2, have never seen a game on ps3 look as good as uc2. last of us isnt out, all you've seen so far is fake, halo 4 looks like CRAP compared to gears 1, let alone 2 or 3

"Do Graphics Really Need to Get Any Better?"

Yes.
ShaunCameron  +   996d ago
Oh? That same Crysis that most PC's couldn't run? LOL

Crysis only really had graphics going for it. Crytek are really one of those devs who choose to only focus on visuals. They pretty much neglect everything else.

In Crysis

The
Story/Dialogue was stupid
Characters were one dimensional
AI was absolutely garbage
and the Gameplay was so meh

I do agree graphics need to be upgraded but I don't think they should be the main focus.

You are blind as a motherfu.. if you think Uncharted 2 looked better than 3. hahahaha

HOLY CRAP, that has got to be the most idiotic thing I've ever read!

it would be great if it got better but the problem is game development cost too much nowdays and in my opinion it should be gameplay > graphics ,, uncharted series has great greamplay and graphics due to the shitload of funding from sony and because its "naughty dog"

Improved graphics keeps games fresh.

I wouldn't wanna see the same graphics over and over again going on to new consoles that'd be ridiculous.

Presenting new engines to display the best graphics possible will be the duties once again for developers next gen.

I personally can't wait for brand new and enhanced game engines next generation, should be great.

Yes after playing the same games on pc max as console its like playing with bad glaucoma ,they are just so much sharper in full 1080p .
ShaunCameron  +   996d ago
Eventually there will be nowhere to go with the graphics once this photo-realism is achieved.
glennco  +   996d ago
photo realism is easy, we want video realism. there is a huge difference
TalesFromTheBud  +   996d ago
yes, they do. until we're in the matrix. lol
SKUD  +   996d ago
Of course. If only gameplay mechanics, script and story telling got better to match. These are in desperate need of an upgrade.

Yes, I think so. I mean, what's the harm in doing so? It will only improve the overall experience of the game. Although, instead of simply visual stuff, I'd like to see games increase in scale and performance. Performance mainly applies to consoles where higher frame-rates would be great. In terms of scale, think of games like Grand Theft Auto. You have huge cities and areas to explore, but there are also a large number of areas that you can't visit. Mostly inaccessible buildings and such. Imagine how much better the game would be if you could literally go anywhere.

YES! I love top notch graphics and A.I. and gameplay! Killzone 2/3 comes to mind! very cool games and the graphics bring the world home!
sdozzo  +   996d ago
I think everyone agrees that gameplay is paramount. But, graphics are next.

Hell Yes!!!

They should prioritize resolution on consoles. at 720p a jump in graphics is hardly noticable since most of the detail is lost in the low resolution. Anyone who has played at 1080p will agree. Even Call of duty has respectably better visuals at 1080p than 720p.
Bladesfist  +   996d ago
Resolution and texture detail are the two biggest things PC has going for it due to the lack of ram in the current consoles. I can't play a game at anything less than 1080p well. It looks so blurry.
