PSBlog Hands-on: Call of Duty Black Ops: Declassified for PS Vita

+ Posted by Jeff Rubenstein // Sr. Social Media Manager
"Call of Duty Black Ops: Declassified is real, and we’ve played it. I think the highest compliment I can pay it is to say that, well, it looks and plays like Call of Duty. The running and gunning, the aiming down the sights, the familiar Bank Gothic notices popping up when you land a long-range shot or end an opponent’s killstreak, the weapon loadouts and multiplayer modes — they’re all here, rendered on PS Vita’s luscious OLED screen and playable with dual analog sticks in a mobile setting for the first time."

I'm very curious as to why this game looks like such shit. I'm very confident that they could have ported over the first Black Ops almost directly to the Vita and still get 30FPS with some very slight modifications.

Especially when you look at Uncharted GA, Killzone Mercs, Gravity Rush, Tearaway, and Assassin's Creed 3 Liberation, to name a few. They all look fantastic, or damn near their current-gen console counterparts. Why can't Call of Duty look better than their iPhone game, or PSP game on the Vita?

Art design I'm guessing.

Because they gave the license to one of the worst devs in the industry: Nihilistic. It's certainly not because the Vita hardware is lacking.

Killzone looks insane because GG is actually implementing it.

Dude the VITA could handle the original Black Ops without any modifications and STILL kept at 60 frames per second. The engine wasn't that impressive to begin with, anyway. However, the Declassified engine is DEFINITELY a JOKE. Looks like a PSP game in sorta HD to be honest.

I am only annoyed by the 4v4. It's way too small. I would have been fine with 6v6.

It looks like the maps are sized down for 4v4. If you look at the video carefully you can see that the nuketown map is halved, blocking access to the blue house and yard. Jus' seems lame.

The game looks so horrid lol. I have no idea why I'm surprised seeing as this is Call of Duty we're talking and I shouldn't have expected anything more when it comes to CoD. Maybe it's because Black Ops 2 actually looked decent for the first time since MW1. I don't know. I can't see anyone buying a Vita for this game not even the masses that love CoD so much lol.

Some people thought the graphics are toned down to achieve 60FPS. Sadly, this crap runs at, or around 30FPS.

From the sound of this preview, this is COD in all but graphics. All of the series' features seems to be intact on the Vita.
After reading the article, i've decided to give this game a chance. Killer graphics are nice, but they're not what makes a game good.

keep in mind that this preview is from the Official Playstation Blog so they are not going to speak negatively about any games.

I'm not a fan of zombies but it doesn't sound like that'll be part of it although they mention a "survival" mode.

It's really disappointing that other games such as MLB The Show and PS All Stars have cross platform play while this CoD port is a joke. Cross platform play for Call of Duty between Vita and PS3 would've been a killer app.

Hold on a second, that guy who played it said that this game runs at 30 FPS?! It's in the comments section, check comment number 4.

As of right now he said.

Although nearing its release date, I am not sure if they are able to change that within a small time frame that they have.

If we are being optimistic about things, let us hope that it is an older build that they are letting people sample, thus the disappointing visuals and frame rate. Cheers.
