Rainbow Moon Review: Gold Under the Rainbow | GamePlox

GamePlox:

No, it doesn’t do anything particularly special to innovate old RPG standards, and it certainly isn’t perfect. But what Rainbow Moon does do as a new, decidedly “old school” RPG, it does exceedingly well. The story might be shallow, but it’s entertaining; the combat will feel familiar, but it’s addictive and beautifully executed; the graphics and art might not be cutting-edge, but they’re definitely gorgeous and original; and so on and so forth.

why isn't anyone talking about this game? It's been getting great reviews and trust me it deserves them. I'm 30 hours in and addicted to the gameplay. Brilliant

ChronoJoe4303d ago

I've heard the game forces a great deal of grinding to progress, which it mitigates by selling you shortcut microtransactions on the store.

Is that true? that's roughly what I was reading on GAF.

That aside, I hate the artstyle.

GribbleGrunger4303d ago

well I'm playing on 'Hard' with 'Adventurous' (the hardest possible settings) and yes, there is some grinding, but progress is steady if your tactics are good

ChronoJoe4303d ago

I'll probably get it when I have the money. I don't mind steady progression.

I do really hate the sprite work though, but I can overlook it.

GribbleGrunger4303d ago

It's actually pretty good, especially in 1080p

ChronoJoe4303d ago

I mean the artwork on the menus rather than the actual 3D models, the enemies and environments look pretty decent.

Head over to the review site, they're giving away some copies.

“Rainbow Moon may not be for everyone but those who really get into it will love it a lot so I definitely recommend it to anyone who has an affinity for slow-paced SRPG adventures and doesn't mind grinding in order to unlock their full potential.” - A.J. Maciejewski from Video Chums.

There's also the sequel rainbow skies. Tbh injust assumed this was already on the switch. I enjoyed it for what it was. Never did finish it though. I had the ps4 physical edition.

Yea, story wasn't great, especially dialogue, but some of the battle tactics got quite fun at higher levels. Sadly, I think Rainbow Skies sunk Sidequest Studios bc it came out years later than originally promised, and Vita enthusiasm had already died by then. EastAsiaSoft still owns this though as a publisher, so I'm guessing they're trying to squeeze some more out of it. I'd recommend it for like $15, probably nothing above that. I liked it enough.

I assumed it was too when I wrote it up. Never finished it either as fun as it was.
