The well-known frachise named Call of Duty is back with its scheduled yearly release. In order to do this, developer Infinity Ward and Treyarch swap spots each year so this schedule can be maintained. Call of Duty 3 is Treyarch's first "this-gen" iteration to hit the market and now the question must be asked: "Are they able to fill the shoes of Infinity Ward?" For the most part, the game's able to deliver some great thrills while bringing in some very refreshing ideas to the series-if only to last for one iteration.
The campaign revovles entirely around the liberation of France. While trying to free it from the clutches of the Nazi army, you'll play as 4 different characters: a US infantryman, a Canadian highlander, a polish tanker, and a British SAS assisting the French resistance. Each of the missions have varying objectives and ways to achieve your goals. The variation is well-made and fun.
There's a few key elements you'll notice have been added to CoD3's SP, some more welcoming than others. The ability to choke grenades, ability to drive various vehicles (motorbike, jeep, tank), QTE sequences, and cutscenes instead of loading screens telling the story. These new features to the series are welcoming to the most part. Driving is a hectic feature to keep the adrenaline pumping, while certain features like QTE sequences can feel out of place.
Presentation and sound have always been well-regarded in the CoD series, but that's not always the case for Call of Duty 3. While the game offers some stunning scenes visually (ranking right behind Gears of War at the time imo), certain sounds are off not only in weapons your holding but activity as well. Where there was usually a sense of activity all around you, CoD3 fails to deliver that during certain times throughout the campaign.
A very suprising new element to Call of Duty 3, as a series, is class-based multiplayer. Supporting up to 24 players, CoD3's MP can really offer some intense moments thanks to the vehicle support on most maps and sprinting (limited to MP though). The class-based system is basically the same as what you'd expect from others: classes start with certain weapons, look a bit different, and have certain advantages/disadvantages. The criticisms to be made for the MP would have to be glitches (although few) and the way it's built. Although I found the mixture of CoD fundamentals/class-based MP to be great + smooth, some may not enjoy the fact that it's not a robust system like other class-based MP's.
Overall, Call of Duty 3 is a very enjoyable WWII fps. Although the CoD series has seemed to dive enough into that era of war, CoD3 does more than enough to pull you back into it. Certain detractors are noticeable for you to see but they're few and far between. If you're interested in another WWII game, I'd certainly recommend this just for the fact of how much variation you see in this game compared to all others in the series.

COD has a long and storied career. Launching as a PC WW2 first-person shooter, Call of Duty has gone through numerous makeovers and been on just about every system. The series has gone through some serious highs and tragic lows. I’ll be looking at each Call of Duty game, the good the bad, and the ugly."
Vanguard better be at the fkn bottom. Can’t believe ppl haven’t eviscerated that game with all its lacking
Will get disagrees but Infinite Warfare campaign was really good. Decent story, set pieces were amazing and if it didn't have the CoD game on it I'm sure people would have been more into it. Advanced Warfare was alright too. Titanfall 2 was just 1000 times better than both but I enjoyed them for their campaigns. I literally barely gaf about the story I'm in it for the set pieces and 5 hours of being stoned watching cool nonsense happen if I'm in the mood to play a CoD campaign. If I'm looking for a deep plot I'm gonna go somewhere else.
Ghosts was the worst story-wise though lol that cliffhanger ending was so bs.
Also MW 2019 was sick and is one of the best CoD games in yeeeears not sure why it's so low on this dude's list. Campaign was great, multiplayer was great and Warzone was fun for a while. Over it now but shrugs.
Beat the Vanguard campaign too but I can't even remember a single thing about it other than that it felt like it was 45 minutes long. Might be the most forgettable thing I've ever played lol just fully erased from my brain
If the rumours are true then COD will be returning to World War 2 this year. The evidence is strong: by Activision’s own words the series is “going back to its roots” for its next instalment. There’s also some leaked art and steelbook covers that, while still unconfirmed, definitely look the business. With that in mind let’s take a look back at some of the series’ greatest WW2 moments. From weird and quirky levels that have you crawling through a pipe, to all out warfare against impossible odds or battling fighter planes in a bomber falling apart in midair. Moments like these can get lost in the cycling din of yearly iterations, so let’s take a moment to appreciate some of Call of Duty’s stand out levels.
WaW was my favorite WW2 Cod. Even too this day i think it is my favorite CoD because of the atmosphere/tone of the game.

Over forty years on planet Earth, my own nerd rock from the sun, you could say I’ve played some games."
Hope you enjoyed the review :).
