Wii U Indie Developers are working on nearly 300 Titles right now

Nintendo’s decision last year to start distributing free software development tools for the Wii U to indie developers in both Japan and overseas was perhaps the best decision the company could had taken, keeping in view the dismal sales of the Wii U.

Great article. Good to hear about 300 titles.

randomass1713666d ago

Dang... that's a lot to choose from.

UnbiasedOpinions3666d ago (Edited 3666d ago )

Thank the Nintendo heavens, that's what we needed to hear Nintendo, now drop the price and announce a bomb at E3, also rethink your Youtube policies

wonderfulmonkeyman3666d ago

The price is not an issue.
The advertisement is.

most core gamers know what the wii u is but don't like it.
edit: looking at the price of the major retailer for my country, it's $430 for the Wii U. ($550 for ps4)
I think a price drop would be nice.

@LKHG

You have my sympathy for living in such an expensive country, but that doesn't change the fact that it's not the same tech as the Wii; out of the three, the Wii U is the cheapest, while still offering much higher degrees of tech than last generation.

It's not fair to expect it to be priced similarly to last gen's non-HD Wii, when you're getting a much better system for your buck in comparison.

Especially considering Nintendo needs to keep making profit, not losing it, if we want to see them ever improve their catalog of games and maybe start bringing back more of them, like they're doing with Fatal Frame.

I can understand wanting to get a cheaper price, but you've got to take development costs into consideration here.
It would be a bad thing for the Wii U to become the next PS3 in terms of profit loss due to underpricing.

NintySonySoft3666d ago

Price is fine.....
Now that they've shown bundle with MK8 (only shown in UK atm) its a step in the right direction just make sure it comes to Us also :D it will sell!

weekev153666d ago

B...b...but WiiU is dead and has no games.....

In all seriousness I hope these games get the recognition they deserve, there are some excellent devs putting out great indie titles and I hope these dont go unnoticed in the mass wave of Indie releases over the next wee while.

wonderfulmonkeyman3666d ago

Did you even READ past the first line?

Neonridr3666d ago

Great to see that Indies are embracing the Wii U. Nice to have something other to play than the first party games to give a little variety. If only 3rd party devs were as enthusiastic..

randomass1713666d ago (Edited 3666d ago )

Indies are on easy street because of Wii U's indie engine support, just like Sony's platforms. AAA devs and publishers use more bloated budgets because of their bigger engines.

edit: Forgot to add that third parties just don't know what to do with the Wii U. Or how to market them. So generally we've seen them do really stupid things with their Wii U releases. Rayman Legends I think was the most controversial, but definitely not the only stupid move from third party Wii U devs.

Activemessiah3666d ago

Boy, i's gonna take a while to wade through them all to find the REALLY good ones.

wonderfulmonkeyman3666d ago

Not really, considering the best ones get a decent amount of recognition.
There's a few lists out there if you're interested in the highest-quality offerings.

Activemessiah3666d ago

Not necessarily the high quality ones but the intriging ones may not be highlighted by sites.

wonderfulmonkeyman3666d ago

Depends on the sites you visit.
There was a Nintendo-centric site recently that did a nice highlight of kick-starters for games coming to the Wii U that looked really good and needed the support, and there's yet another that's currently doing a run-down of all the note-worthy indie games in development for the system.

randomass1713666d ago

You should look at the list of indie games before you judge them. There is a lot of neat content in there.

Activemessiah3666d ago

That's what I meant, all 300 can't be all great, it'll take a while to narrow down the good ones.

How Many More Victims, Like Garry's Mod, Will Nintendo's Hurtful Crusade Create?

Hanzala from eXputer: "As Nintendo takes out 20 years' worth of stuff from Garry's Mod, I watch in shock, thinking why it continues to hurt and discourage its fans."

RiseNShine3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

The irony that some of the most disgusting business practices come from companies like Disney or Nintendo, i can't even begin to understand what terrible damage was Garrys Mod making to Nintendo bottom line, imho they're getting pretty nervous about where they're heading in the future, handhelds are no longer something exclusive to Nintendo, from Steam Deck to many others, now you can play the latest games and pay a fraction of the price on Steam sales, so it's up to their exclusives, which just on their own would make hard to justify purchasing a closed overpriced hardware with outrageous price policies (Super Mario Odyssey is still 60 euro 6 years later!), and as a home console they're always underperforming compared to Sony or Xbox.

gold_drake3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

i cam guarantee you, that their exclusives alone is what drives switch sales. they sell in the 10s of millions of copies.

nintendo created their franchises to be sort of nostalgia driven, exclusive only on nintendo.

people will always buy the pkmn games as they always bring in new younger fans amd is family friendly

mario kart, the same thing, mario games in general.

zelda games are system sellers. animal crossing for the casual gamers.

nintendo doesnt need third vame devs essentially. they made sure with the switch and the limitations that they looked more to pc ps and xbox.

its sad, but nintendo is more than fine with what they're doing. they positioned themselves to appeal to the more casual gamers.

but to your point, im not sure why they're doing this rly.

Look at how they handled Nintendo games being streamed or uploaded on YouTube in the past. They killed Yuzu and Citra even when they had nothing to do with ToTK being leaked, not to mention it was basically unplayable on emulation the week it was leaked. Smash Bros tournament, that was fairly recent. They shut down their online services without any care for purchases made. I bought a switch after skipping their last 2 consoles and handhelds but I don't plan on buying anything Nintendo in the future. They take things to the extremes, they legitimately hate their fans. They're honestly right up there with the likes of Acti, EA, and Ubi, only difference is that they disguise themselves as being family friendly all the while being shady.

Nintendo's Massacre Of The 3DS And Wii U Is Finally Complete, Regrettably

Hanzala from eXputer: "The cruel hammer of Nintendo has fallen. Farewell, 3DS and Wii U, you surely brightened my life and many others; you won't be forgotten."
