But PS4 and X1 are actually utilizing six cores for games, not to mention Wii U with three...

XboxPS3783d ago

Wii U Specs:
3-core PowerPC CPU @1.2GHz
2GB DDR3
AMD Radeon GPU @550MHz
Xbox One Specs:
8-core x86 AMD CPU @1.75GHz
8GB DDR3
AMD Radeon GPU @853MHz
PS4 Specs:
8-core x86 AMD CPU @1.6GHz?
8GB GDDR5
AMD Radeon GPU @800MHZ
Don't know how much the Wii U is utilizing for games...
Maybe 1?

ipach3783d ago

sorry to geek out, but just have to point out that clock speed is hardly as important for GPUs as the number of shader cores, bandwidth/bit rate and ROPs; e.g. there's a reason you get significantly better performance from an 800MHz 7950 than a 1GHz 7870... Clock speed is still important, but can be deceiving

linkenski3783d ago

Pretty sure you switched PS4 specs around with Xbone or something. PS4 is said to have 1.8Ghz and not 1.6.

no ps4 have 1.6ghz xb1 have an higher clocked cpu
he forget the esram on the xb1 ;) just that

adorie3783d ago (Edited 3783d ago )

I don't think we have hard confirmation as to what the actual core clock of the PS4 CPU is.

If someone has hard proof, link it here.

Good interview but poorly interviewed. Twisted headline, pushing to much for opinions on Xbox vs PS4 technical differences, we know they're restricted on answering those things directly. Asking how mantle will effect console visuals, when Mantle is specifically for PC.

But yeah, look forward to seeing their hardwork in action.

solidboss073783d ago

No shit Sherlock - in response to the title.

And I think Sony studios will be up to speed already. Working with Cell.B.E will make them ready for multi core CPU.

No?

ATi_Elite3783d ago

I'm more interested in the "Flux Capacitor" Engine than Nitrous Engine.

The XB1/PS4 have 8 core CPU but they are SIngle threaded so as long as the Engine evenly distribute work then you are fine.

The real issue is Game engines that don't evenly distribute work across multi cores and engines that don't make use of Multi-threaded cores like Intels.

Most of these problems have been solved so we should all be good BUT yes a few games out there have this problem ESPECIALLY PORTS!

on the PC side I'm more interested in Low Level api's than game engines as PC's have been seeing proper Dev techniques now but Low Level api's are needed.......

as the GPU is doing most of the work anyway now a days.

In consoles it's still a nice balancing act of CPU/GPU to get full potential out of the consoles.

Fallout 4's 'next gen' update is over 14 gigs, breaks modded saves, & doesn't change much at all

We were expecting problems with mod support, but there are a lot of other issues.

isarai7h ago

Wow what the actual hell 🤣🤣🤣

just_looken6h ago

This is why you get the GOG version on gog you can select the version of the game to download.

On pc fallout 4 fallout new vegas and skyrim are all broken on steam because they all got the same "next gen" update.

Skyrim dec 2023
https://www.pcgamer.com/sky...

Can not find new vegas but anyone that modded it knows the script extender there was also broken

Valkyrye5h ago

Not accidental, they want modders to stop modding their older games to force them to mod Shitfield.

just_looken3h ago

There doing the same on starfield with a mods store and blocking mods

There goal is like blizzard and what they did with fallout 76 you make mods they can sell and you become a slave.

On skyrim they have "trusted" mod devs now basically a badge that lets your mod on the store you get a crumb of the sale when someone buys it.

Inverno1h ago

lol to the disagrees, the last Skyrim update broke mods too. They've been trying to kill mods to monetize them in creation club for years, it's not a stretch that they purposely put out patches just to break free mods.

porkChop35m ago

The disagrees are from people who have common sense. They aren't trying to kill mods. Most mods for any game will break with a new update because they rely on files/code that have been changed. This isn't new. Even with Bethesda this would happen way before the creation club. Mod support is literally one of the things that got Bethesda to where they are, and they're one of the only devs that releases comprehensive mod tools for each of their games.

Chocoburger1h ago

Over 14 GBs and doesn't change much at all? What? Taking up that much drive space for a pathetic 'remastering' is shameful.

Par for Bethesda.

Aussiesummer23m ago

It's not a remaster, it's a next gen update.

badz1490m ago

LOL people are actually expecting massive improvements or something? From Bethesda?? the same people who released Skyrim multiple times and the all look like shit? THAT Bethesda? are people for real?

Hopefully Microsoft will go back to the original story line and get away from that woke nonsense from the last Gears game Gears of Woke! But were talking about Microsoft so all the betting money is on more of the same woke nonsense.
