Why Sony brought Sound Shapes, Flower and more to PS4's launch

When the PlayStation 4 launches in North America on Friday, many PlayStation fans will find they already have a handful of free games waiting for them to download. Sony is bringing some of the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita's best downloadable games to PS4, in part to showcase its cross-platform "cross-buy" program and the power of its next-gen console.

Flower is free on the PS4? I own the PS3 version but won't buy it again even at a discount but free is good.

FamilyGuy3816d ago

It's only free if you already own it, that's what "cross-buy" means. If you don't own it it's still regular price.

Some people have put in a lot of money into their collection of digital games bought from PSN and Live. The new-gen consoles are not backwards compatible so if you upgrade without retaining your 360/PS3 then you lose access to your games. But if Sony and Microsoft can convert some of their library games so they work on the new systems then they are serving gamers well. I don't expect this to be done for every title but i'm really loving the idea that when I get a PS4 I already have some upgraded games waiting for me to play.

All the games are free if you own them on ps3 or vita.

Thats not really free, you already paid for those games and have the right own them on the next platform.

Imagine buying an App for the Iphone or Android and then being able to use it on your next upgrade, that isnt free, you already paid for it and it would be unfair if you had to pay for it again.

Personally its good console makers are allowing people to play games they already bought, its a step in the right direction.

I'm going to assume that the games will have upgraded effects using the new hardware, so I wouldn't completely agree that we'd have the right to own them on the next platform for free.

If they're the "exact" same games then I agree with you.

@feraldrgn

Well think of it this way. I buy a game on the PC, few years later i decide to upgrade. My game looks better because i can up the settings. However that doesnt mean i need to pay for it again.

I think its something console gamers need to be aware about and shouldnt be paying again and again for the same thing.

believe it or not i havent played flower, journey, or soundshapes, so these critically acclaimed, user praised, beautiful games are a nice fit.. im looking forward to them :')

I may play Sound Shapes.

Would like to compare it to the PS3 version.

Vitalogy3815d ago (Edited 3815d ago )

Not much to compare in my opinion, it's not like you're going to see a huge graphical different and I'm sure that gameplay wise it will be the same but it's a great game and worth having on the ps4 :)

Review - Flower (PC) | WayTooManyGames

WTMG's Leo Faria: "Flower is a gorgeous, well-crafted and relaxing game, but I have to say, I don’t get the massive love towards it. Its “story”, if you can call it that, is far from deep and thought-provoking as some say it is, its duration is borderline insulting for its asking price, and it just doesn’t motivate you to replay it after you’re done with its half a dozen levels. Sadly, Flower isn’t as meaty as it should be. A fair point in a way, given it’s a game about plants…"
