What's for dinner? - My E3 Predictions

It's coming. The next generation of games has been revealed, and we're all biting at the bit for more of a glimpse of the power and capability behind the two top contending platforms: Xbox One and PS4.

Sony started the year with their reveal, which gave us tantalizing looks at the PS4's cloud capabilities, a tweaked DualShock controller with light-bar, and a small clump of game announcements and play to show us that the future of the PlayStation brand looks great for gamers.

Microsoft took a different tact with their reveal, and focused more on the general entertainment-centric nature of the new Xbox. Showing the enhanced UI, Snap, voice commands, and improved Kinect, Microsoft showed that they are ready to invade the living room...to be the friend your cable box has been missing.

There were some complaints about both reveals. Sony, for instance, didn't expand on what Gaikai functionality would be at launch. They also kept the actual appearance of the PS4 a secret. Most interested parties, however, dismissed these things as trivial. Sony bought Gaikai for $380 million, and most feel comfortable that such an investment will be eagerly capitalized, and the look of the box doesn't matter to most.

Microsoft, on the other hand, faces much greater outcry. Having shown no actual gameplay, many gamers are left wondering if the Xbox One will be a capable games machine at all, and also if it will be a hindrance to how multiplatform games are designed to cope with a massive operating system overhead.

So the big question is: What will happen at E3?

First, I believe that Sony is going to bring the games. I can't see them having a conference that is less than 2 hours long, because they have so much to show. The first hour will be spent on the PS3, showcasing what's next for the popular platform. The Vita will be crammed into the end of that hour, bridging the gap between the PS3 and the PS4, where the real magic will begin.

Sony will showcase some casual titles, some of which may highlight the new, stereoscopic PSEye. They'll even provide some insight to how the DualShock 4 will work, using gameplay from something we may have already seen to show us what is possible with the new controller.

Finally, Sony will close out with some things we haven't seen, piling on the games in response to Microsoft's unveil.

Microsoft, however, has a lot of ground to cover. They'll most likely take just an hour to do it, which won't leave much time. But my predictions for them come in two parts.

First, what I would do: Spend an hour. Recap the unveiling in the first half hour. Forget TV. Spend the next half hour showcasing the new Kinect, and wrap it up with a trailer showing any new Kinect titles. Spend the last hour on games, games, games. All the games you can find. Prove to the primary Xbox audience...the audience that brought you into the home in the first place...that you haven't forgotten them. Show us that the Xbox One is a game console.

Second, what I think they'll ACTUALLY do: Take an hour. Show three multiplat games and announce one or two exclusive IPs (maybe not even new IPs). They'll spend too much time on Kinect, and the end result will be a general feeling that the box is too casual-centric.

My prediction is that they'll bridge the gap between these two things but leave us with less of a high than we want.

What do you think? Am I on target, or do I need to rethink the whole thing?

Sony will show the PS4 first, then PS3 games, then PSV touching again on the PS4 and cross interaction. Media Support will be touched upon.

They'll also mention cloud servers, but I expect it'll be about BC and boosting PS+ where MS's use of it will be main to expand their console. Sony will fall technically behind them in that regard, but I suspect that many wont care given an excess of offered games and indie support they'll be offering through it. For both non and PS+ subscribers.

Really suspect that MS will be in full damage control mode. Be forced to waste time to deal with the used game question and re-mobilize from mostly CG trailers like they usually do to live active stage demos. That while Kinect 2.0 will work better than 1.0, anything sign of lag or jitters will be attacked for days afterwards.

I don't think is hard to predict the conferences at this point. Just look at what has been announced.

SONY
- Bungie announced that they will show Destiny gameplay
- Sony will unveil the PS4 console
- Square Enix will announce the new Final Fantasy (or reintroduce FFV13).

With those three, that's 30 mins of the conference.

We might get inFamous Second Son gameplay too. The first 15 minutes will be about the features of the PS4 and the controller. Also, how many third parties will be there? There's Bungie and SE. Will EA and Ubisoft be there? Showcasing Fifa, etc and Assassin's Creed Black Flag respectively?. I would love that there would be mostly first party games, but that is impossible.

Then there's PS3 and PS Vita. I don't think they will spend a lot of time on the PS3 other than saying that it has become successful and maybe a pricecut. The PS Vita on the other hand, has to have at least 30 minutes of new games announced. The ideal thing would be if Sony made a video conference like Nintendo Direct to announce everything PS Vita and focus the entire conference on PS4, but that won't happen.

MICROSOFT

They will definitely go about the TV features again as a recap, but they will definitely focus on games as they have said. In my opinion it will be announcement after announcement, some as trailers and some as gameplay demos. But how many will there be for Kinect and how many more hardcore? Also, Crytek announced to show Ryse.

In conclusion, it's not that hard to predict what's going to happen at the conferences, but I hope that the games shown are really good surprises.

Stellar Blade Day One Update 1.002 Adds New Game+, Removes Offensive Graffiti

Shift Up has released Stellar Blade day one update 1.002 on PS5, and those who preloaded the game should be notified of this update.

cliveo3211h ago

Lol who is offended by it 1 percent of crying snowflakes of course..

blackblades4h ago

What did it mean? Considering I'm in my own world these days.

Christopher2h ago

Hard R is typically a reference to the N-word with the hard r at the end.

Eonjay1h ago

Do you really not know this is about the n-word or are you saying that black people can't get offended because it upsets you?

Christopher2h ago

I can't believe they're censoring this game on day 1. Games just aren't the same.

/s in case it's needed. I'm fine with them making these changes that they might not have known is culturally insensitive to some people in the big ole world. But that's just me.

VersusDMC1h ago

They are censoring something that is deemed offensive by Journalists quoting the offensive term verbatim. They are typing it intentionally in articles while in the game it's a wall texture saying Hard next to a unrelated 3d model sign that says R store. Is it offensive or not? Crazy town.

At least IGN just shows the term with a screenshot of the game. Because it's their "discovery" and to not show hypocrisy in their HUGE vitue signal.
Hard R is the not offensive way to describe an offensive term. Are they going to type "Ha$$ R" or not use the term now?

Christopher1h ago

Oh, hey, I agree with you that IGN and other journalists are dumb. Not disagreement there. But, I think for a game going out to millions of people across the world? It's not something they want associated with them. It's just horrific PR.

Tacoboto1h ago

Add to the horrific PR nightmare that this is the first major Korean-developed Sony-published title, if I'm not mistaken.

There aren't that many Korean developed titles in general. And the allowance of this only would drive a bigger fissure in east vs west especially after Final Fantasy XVI released featuring no black characters at all...

Not a good look for Sony regardless of how you personally feel about it or the people that talk about it.

VersusDMC36m ago

I'm not saying it shouldn't have been changed. It's an easy fix and looks like it was an easy fix.

But the word HARD being too close to the letter R being a horrific PR nightmare and a indication of a racist developer is beyond crazy.

Stevonidas2h ago

Pre-order cancelled. They were so close.... then they had to go and bend the knee.

Eonjay1h ago

If you can't enjoy the game without knowing there are racial slurs plastered on the walls, you might actually be the snowflake.

Tacoboto1h ago

"Hey why didn't you get that game? I heard it's got that hot Korean chick?"

"I was gonna, but then they removed a reference to the N word!"

Crows901h ago

I'm offended by the sight of blood a d violence and find violence to be very insensitive...

We can all play stupid and pretend to be offended by graphics and fake worlds.

DFresh27m ago

I really enjoyed the demo.
I'm going to play through and max out on story mode then go to the challenge mode afterwards.
This game is very challenging but fun.
Especially for timing on the parrying and blocking.
Got the Deluxe Digital Edition (PS5) pre ordered.
