BenQ XL2720T Monitor Review | OnlySP

"I’m dubious whenever I see a product labelled as “gaming”. A cynical person could see it as an easy opportunity for an obscene price mark up, like that fancy $100 designer label on a $10 shirt. A more optimistic person could see it as an easy way to distinguish the product as one for a more ‘hardcore’ audience – a serious product for a serious gamer, someone probably more serious than you. Me? I see it and say “what kind of gaming?” The needs of someone who plays MMOs are different from those of someone who plays online shooters, or indie platformers, or turn based strategy games.

So what does the BenQ XL2720T 120Hz gaming monitor do to earn the “gaming” tag? Quite a lot, actually..."

I was looking forward for some reviews about this monitor to start appearing. but as the case with most things reviewed, there are two camps.

i'll wait for few more reviews and see how it fairs in general.

ips have horrendous black levels and with calibration of decent quality tn panels can match ips but with faster images.

LightofDarkness4005d ago (Edited 4005d ago )

What? IPS generally has superior black levels to TN, along with far superior viewing angles, contrast and colours. It always depends on the panel, but that's just how it is in the vast majority of cases. TN certainly has better pixel response in the majority of cases, but again, it depends on the panel.

Apple Cinema displays are nice, they use the same panels as the Dell U2711 but use a glossy coat instead of anti-glare, which some prefer and some don't. Neither panel will serve you well if you play fast paced games though, they both have input lag over 30ms and their pixel response time, while ok, will certainly blur in fast moving scenes. Both displays are more for image professionals than gamers.

benq make very underwhelming monitors at high prices(for what they're worth). Id recommend asus monitors as the colours are awesome with minimal calibration and black levels are insane.
