Why The Wii U Isn't Doomed

As a writer and a gamer, I often find myself browsing through many gaming sites and blogs, trying to devour as much gaming related info as I can, but what I find always stands out in the crowded gaming media are the well written opinion pieces. Whether it’s the controversial piece that stirs the fanboys into a frenzy or an intelligent look at the state of the industry, there will always be a wide array of contrasting opinions in the gaming media. These differences in opinion are what invoke such passionate replies from readers and are a huge part of what makes the gaming industry so much fun, but regardless of the major site’s differing views on many topics , the opinions on one particular subject seem to be jarringly consistent - the overall negativity toward Nintendo and more specifically, their new Wii U console...

Good, well written article. Doom articles are so silly and meant for website hits from crazy fanboy types. I try to ignore them because I'm pretty sure no one is truly able to tell the future. Unless you are Marty McFly and can travel back to the future.

Thank you. Haha, exactly, as I said in the article the same thing happened with the 3DS and now look at it.Sadly I'm not blessed with the prophetic powers of the all knowing Mr Patcher..

You can tell the future if you go with the doctor.

i see wii u bouncing back big time.

Sadly, I see the WiiU performing on the level of the Gamecube. That is not "doom," just a significant let down. It had all the AAA Nintendo franchises but never put up the numbers that the massively 3rd-party supported PS2 had.

I just dont see the casuals jumping on this console like they did with the Wii.

bequietdrive4044d ago (Edited 4044d ago )

I agree to an extent - I highly doubt this will have anywhere near the success of the Wii. I do think though if Nintendo step up the marketing, release the big core titles I.E Zelda, Metroid and then release well advertised Wii Sports U etc they could get a decent sized audience for the console. The Wii U has so much promise, I just really hope Nintendo can get the most of the system.

They should have been able to deliver something on par with what MS and Sony are going to offer. Splitting the market in three mostly even chunks would been awesome for the consumers. Instead, the average gamer has to make a choice between Nintendo games and everything else. Just like the Cube.

Such a BS choice. I'll be picking up a WiiU whenever they release the next Monolith Soft game and a Playstation at some point but most people choose just one system.

bequietdrive4044d ago (Edited 4044d ago )

I think Nintendo actually have to differentiate themselves from the competition, otherwise they would get even less sales. If Nintendo just offered more of the same they would be seen as irrelevant. I'm hoping more features will come with updates and the Wii U will become a truly great machine, because honestly I've had an amazing time with it already and I hope they just learn from their mistakes and keep adding more online and social features. I do understand what you are saying though, not everyone can afford multiple consoles - hopefully Wii U will start to gain more western third party support and it will have the library to be a stand alone console for the average westerner.

"Instead, the average gamer has to make a choice between Nintendo games and everything else. Just like the Cube."

The Cube was technologically superior to the PS2, so I don't see your point here. It was capable of running the same games as PS2 and Xbox 360.

good read.it was a positive wii u article so bring out the crybabies!

josephayal4044d ago

The problem isn't just the games. Everyone sees the Wii U just isn't a next generation console

abzdine4044d ago (Edited 4044d ago )

i dont think Wii U is doomed, but i dont see it perform as good as Wii either.
The problem is that it offers nothing compared to the well in place PS3 or 360.
When Wii released there were SO MANY exclusives especially made for Wii. With Wii U it's mainly ports waaay too late with a little + which is Gamepad use.

Right now i see nothing worth the price, especially with the next gen right around the corner.

How Many More Victims, Like Garry's Mod, Will Nintendo's Hurtful Crusade Create?

Hanzala from eXputer: "As Nintendo takes out 20 years' worth of stuff from Garry's Mod, I watch in shock, thinking why it continues to hurt and discourage its fans."

RiseNShine9d ago (Edited 9d ago )

The irony that some of the most disgusting business practices come from companies like Disney or Nintendo, i can't even begin to understand what terrible damage was Garrys Mod making to Nintendo bottom line, imho they're getting pretty nervous about where they're heading in the future, handhelds are no longer something exclusive to Nintendo, from Steam Deck to many others, now you can play the latest games and pay a fraction of the price on Steam sales, so it's up to their exclusives, which just on their own would make hard to justify purchasing a closed overpriced hardware with outrageous price policies (Super Mario Odyssey is still 60 euro 6 years later!), and as a home console they're always underperforming compared to Sony or Xbox.

gold_drake9d ago (Edited 9d ago )

i cam guarantee you, that their exclusives alone is what drives switch sales. they sell in the 10s of millions of copies.

nintendo created their franchises to be sort of nostalgia driven, exclusive only on nintendo.

people will always buy the pkmn games as they always bring in new younger fans amd is family friendly

mario kart, the same thing, mario games in general.

zelda games are system sellers. animal crossing for the casual gamers.

nintendo doesnt need third vame devs essentially. they made sure with the switch and the limitations that they looked more to pc ps and xbox.

its sad, but nintendo is more than fine with what they're doing. they positioned themselves to appeal to the more casual gamers.

but to your point, im not sure why they're doing this rly.

Look at how they handled Nintendo games being streamed or uploaded on YouTube in the past. They killed Yuzu and Citra even when they had nothing to do with ToTK being leaked, not to mention it was basically unplayable on emulation the week it was leaked. Smash Bros tournament, that was fairly recent. They shut down their online services without any care for purchases made. I bought a switch after skipping their last 2 consoles and handhelds but I don't plan on buying anything Nintendo in the future. They take things to the extremes, they legitimately hate their fans. They're honestly right up there with the likes of Acti, EA, and Ubi, only difference is that they disguise themselves as being family friendly all the while being shady.

Nintendo's Massacre Of The 3DS And Wii U Is Finally Complete, Regrettably

Hanzala from eXputer: "The cruel hammer of Nintendo has fallen. Farewell, 3DS and Wii U, you surely brightened my life and many others; you won't be forgotten."
