How is it that "convenience" and "ease of use" are foreign and unknown terms to PC gamers? How impossible is it to understand that game publishers in order to get more sales pander to the general consumer who neither owns a high-end PC or wants to deal with upgrading or getting a whole new system just to play on game?

Yes, PC are and will be more powerful than consoles, but games sell more on consoles than PCs. They sell more on tables and phones. What is this delusion that *EVERYONE* will suddenly be into PC gaming overnight if "X" thing happens or "X" title comes out?

If anything since the introduction of Steam, PC gaming has become very streamlined.

Steams made PC gaming into a very console like experience. Personally for me darn convenient having all my games installed and patched up automatically.

All it takes is a Click install and play, no need switching or maintaining disks. Hell previously id end up having scratched disks etc.

With over 200 games on Steam and a new gen upon us, there isnt a worry in the world for me on what happens to all my games. Everything will just work the next time i upgrade, no concerns over losing BC for the games i paid so much.

Both platforms PC or Console offer their advantages. For me PC just is more convenient.

Same here. I look to my shelf next to me and looked in nostalgia at those DVD boxes. Max Payne 3 was the last retail boxed game that I ordered. On my Firefox bookmark toolbar, there's the little bookmark for the retail shop where I used to order my games from. I've only visited the site every now and then only to see if any new gaming peripherals has arrived.

Just like gaming magazines, I prefer the digital/downloadable version of games now. It's thrilling to hold something physical such as an actual magazine or a boxed game but space will eventually become an issue.

Another advantage of Steam is the ability to backup a fully patched game. With a retail game you need to re-patch the game all over again if you suddenly wanted to play it again months later. For example, I have two versions of Darksiders DVDs. One is the retail DVD while the other is the burned backup fully patched version. Obviously I would prefer to restore the backup version since I can play it immediately.

true all your games will run on your system with you current specs which is great but what happens when you cant play game cause you need an upgrade? thats why i like about consoles any game made for the system that i put into is guaranteed to play. On pc this isnt the case and in other times you may need to tweak settings just to get the game to run

T9004082d ago

@trenso1

What happens when a game like Skyrim, BF3, COD, Fallout, farcry 3 lags on your console?

Stop pretending everything runs great on console, cause it doesnt and in situations when it doesnt run well there is nothing you can do about it. At least on PC people can tweak it down and make the game playable. Now if you are going to say having options is a bad thing, then i feel sorry for you.

Most games are designed with consoles as the lowest denominator. Since console tech is so old, any mid range PC from 2-3 years back still plays most games maxed out, so there goes the upgrade myth. You only need to upgrade maybe 2-3 years, that too if you absolutely want the best settings like SSAO, Tessellation etc which is way beyond console settings anyways.

Tablet games like angry birds (sold 100 Million copies)sell moe than console games.

What is this delusion that *EVERYONE* will suddenly be into Console gaming?

Just sayin now some devs are leaving for mobile gaming and saying tablets are the future.

lol Sometimes I feel Microsoft want to leave.

Godmars2904082d ago (Edited 4082d ago )

What's your point: this is a post-console era. As far as the general consumer is concerned tablets and phones, games such as Angry Birds, have supplanted them in terms of accessibility just as the Atari 2600 first made gaming popular because PCs were way too expensive and complex.

hahah nice guys, great talk.

Cliffy B And Jabba The Hutt Sterling biggest D-Bags in the industry.

Knight_Crawler4082d ago

Dont forget David Jaffe and Peter Molyneux - those two need to be sent to Mars so they can bore each other to death.

Hicken4082d ago

Molyneux's just delusional. Jaffe is just a normal guy.

Neither are on the same level as Cliffy B or Sterling.

A Matter Of Trust: What The Game Industry Should Do To Win Gamers Back

Skewed and Reviewed have written an Opinion Piece covering issues in the gaming industry, how current issues were issues years ago, and what can be done to help restore consumer trust.

anast2d ago

Nothing. It's up to the gamers to stop consuming content from companies that they don't agree with.

Garethvk1d 15h ago

How do you know if you agree with it or not unless you play it? Which without conventions forces gamers to rely on trailers. Perhaps Demos should be made more frequently. But companies need to do better as well.

anast1d 15h ago

Wait until release. Watch Gameplay. Exercise patience.

Garethvk1d 14h ago

But is that not what they have now? Tons of gameplay or are you talking about watching actual gamers play it versus the trailers and streams? The big issue is that some companies pay streamers and influencers and they create content but for me; that is hardly a fair, unbiased, and factual look at a game.

1nsomniac1d 19h ago

Get rid of the suits in the industry and job done!!

Garethvk1d 15h ago

They usually are attached to the money sadly. It would be nice to have gamers in charge but you have so much money invested that business people are needed. Hence the issue; you need people who know business but are also gamers who know have an eye to the community. It sounds simple in theory that if you give gamers quality games that they want to play; money will be made. But that is not always so.
