PSIV I think the roman numerals would like smart

Royale With Cheese is better.

Joking aside, PlayStation 4 is the only logical way to go at this point. Anything else will create unnecessary confusion among some consumers.

yeah it is almost certain it will be called ps4 there were some rumours early on that the ps4 will have a name change because 4 is an unlucky number in some Asian countries but i find it very very unlikely that the name change will affect countries world wide probably just china

NGC (Next Generation Console) like they did at first with NGP.

Continuing the number tradition seems likely but I think sony knows its time for a change. Whatever they decide to call it, there wont be any confusion.

those that know what its about will buy it and if it is named something catchy and modern, it will have a better chance to sell outside the target demographic.

The name is key to success and the brand of "Playstation" has already built a strong following. They can still call it Playstation but make it sound more modern than just adding a 4 to the end.

Just to point out, creative names tend to be remembered more than those that follow a pattern. As a funny side effect, every time i hear of a PS with a number i cant help but think of Rocky. PS4 will be the Rocky 4 of consoles (if they call it that).

PlayStation 4.

I mean does anyone really see Sony calling it Orbis, or any other imo dumb code name? Yes there's the whole Vita's Latin meaning being life, and Orbis Latin meaning circle. Yay Circle of Life ect... Then there's the whole Japanese number 4 superstition but I think people look to much into that.

The thing is PlayStation is a brand a massive brand known worldwide period. So if a Company is going jeopardize there brand recognition causing confusion. In doing so risk potential profits an consumer loyalty. All over shi meaning death they need some help. If anything they should rebrand it in Japan if they absolutely have to.

Anyway that's my two sense. On a side note they can call it any damn thing they want I'm still buying it regardless.

playstation 2's grand son shall be great.

g4me_he4d4104d ago

The Japanese could call it PlayStation yon. Yon also means 4 and more popular than 'shi'.

Donnieboi4104d ago

Sure as long as it's only named that in Japan only.

NewsForSnowflakes4104d ago (Edited 4104d ago )

Playstation 4 seems the most obvious way to go but I'm not sure it will happen.

In Japan, the number 4 is considered unlucky and superstitions are taken more seriously over there. Apparently it's because the number 4 is sometimes pronounced as 'Shi' which also means 'Death'.

Also, I don't think Sony are going to be jeopardizing anything buy jut not popping a 4 on the end. It'll definitely be the Playstation 'something'.

If it's not the Playstation 4, the only thing that will happen is that the usual losers will complain on forums about the name for a month or two then get bored. Just like they did with Vita.

I guess we'll find out in 2 days.

the only reason i can ever see sony going from PS4 to PSorbis, omni, or whatever is because in japan the number 4 is like our 666, and since sony comes from japan i dont think they will name it PS4 to jeopordize sales in the homeland, im thinking they will call it PS4 here in the US and UK but over in japan they may call it Orbis or omni, neo, etc....

They can call it "PlayStation 4", it's alright, with the "arabic" (ahem, ahem) figure, even the Japanese will most definitely call it "Puleiste Foa" and not use the pronunciation "Shi" as if it were the japanese numeral 四 (which could be mistaken with 死, the kanji for death, which has the same pronunciation).

It would be a commercial suicide not to capitalize on the brand name "PlayStation" and call it Orbis, btw...

Ghost Of Tsushima's PSN May Be Online-Only, But People Still Can't Play It

Sucker Punch’s massive samurai adventure Ghost of Tsushima has come under fire because of the PSN requirement. However, unlike Helldivers 2, things are a lot different and more logical this time.

thorstein13h ago(Edited 13h ago)

"Sony has made it clear long before its release that the PSN requirement is strictly for the online multi-player Legends mode in Ghost of Tsushima and the PlayStation overlay. Online connection or PSN is not applied to the single-player campaign, which is honestly what the game is all about."

Extermin8or3_4h ago(Edited 3h ago)

Legends clearly was based around using the pan they hardly want to have to design a whole new account structure just to play it, that's alot of effort and work. Ultimately people kicked up a fuss despite there being workarounds in most of those territories that people with a ps console have used over there for literally like 15/16 years. This is the consequence of that, be careful what you wish for or demand because you don't necessarily get to pick the method by which you get it.

melmacj2h ago

This game is not Helldivers 2. Every game doesn’t need to be Call of Duty. I may or may not play one minute of the online component. I’m buying it solely for the story/campaign. Sony needs to integrate it better but Microsoft does the same with Xbox live account. It’s an ecosystem they will always want to tie into the console audience and frankly don’t know why this is such a big deal.

Seafort2m ago(Edited 2m ago)

It is because the PC isn't a console and shouldn't be tied to the same restrictions the console gamers are. If Sony wants PC gamers to buy their games they will need to learn what I and many others will accept.

Trying to harvest our personal details for any of their games on PC will not fly.

cthulhucultist12m ago

cant wait to play this masterpiece!

neutralgamer19929m ago

I want to play it for single player and if I want to try legends I am willing to log into my PSN account. What’s the big deal anyway? If I want to play a rockstar game from steam I still have to have a different launcher and account other that launcher and same goes for UBI. On PC we have so many store front anyway what’s another log in. BTW the way we the pc gamers reacted to HD2 will only mean Sony will make it clear before launch that their online is only available with PSN account
