I agree. Plus, the Wii U sounds like a kid toy. If Nintendo wanted to get the hardcore back, why would they name their console Wii U?? Lets look at it this way.

Friend 1: Hey, Alfredo *or insert another friend name here*, you saw the Wii U?
Alfredo: Wii U? What's that? Is that a new game?
Friend 1: No, it's the new Nintendo console...

Now, lets look at the other side
Friend 1: Yo, Brad *i imagine Xbox fanboys as frat boys, so I chose a generic bro name*, you saw the 720?

Ok, I was a bit biased, but still. In this day and age, people are heavily influenced by the trendiest and newest things and what's "cool". If the Wii U doesn't attract that demographic, then they're losing money........

Not that it really matters if the Wii U isn't as successful as the Wii. The 3DS, Pokémon, Mario, Animal Crossing, and now Monster Hunter are printing billions of money. They can just make the money there easily.

The problem is how they used the term "Wii" with the last console. It was overused to a certain extent. Wii Fit, Wii Play, Wii Sports, Wii Party, Wii Wheel, etc, etc. And those are just the few I pulled off the first two pages of Amazon when searching "Wii". I think it's only natural that uninformed members of the public would think that it's just another Wii add-on.

Let's face the facts, the industry is very used to the idea of one item being original and the second one being "2" and the third "3" and so on. Playstations so far have been numbered, many games for all platforms have numbered sequels, hell even cell phones are numbered. For some things keeping the same or similar name works, like many automobiles but in the case of the WiiU I think it was a mistake.

Not everyone is on N4G or other gaming news sites to learn the scoop on new hardware. The average person watching the local news and only seeing new products when they are in the store and have no one but ignorant sales people to rely on may never understand that the WiiU is the next Wii.

not unlike they overused the terms "super" and "64" on their respected SNES and N64 games. But after a while, they did scale back the use of the terms.

The use of "Wii" wasnt nearly as prevalent as it was for Super Metroid or Super RType (as examples) or even Wave Race 64 or Pilot Wings 64.

We didnt have wii mario or wii metroid. those were titled appropriately but the ones you list probably just fit better being called wii (insert name here).

Now we will get some "U" games like zombie-u and mario-u and maybe even a metroid-u (I hope not).

The hardcore gamers don't need to be advertised. They would support it despite its name as long as it has good games and potential.

Even though the Wii U is BC you still need to buy the nun chuck, and wireless Wii remote separately if you never owned an original Wii!!!

So for first time Wii U owners like myself this is kinda a slap in the face! Seeing in my country both those controls cost like $120...

Fair enough we get a free Wii game, but whats the use if you dont have the original Wii remote to play it... FAIL!!!

I don't see why the shop is confused. The Wiiu is compatible with Wii and the Wii is no longer selling well. This is just the perfect way of moving Wii games stock and helping Wiiu sales in the bargain. There's nothing odd here at all.

I gotta agree. Simply adding a letter to a successor product from its predecessor was a big mistake.
Kinda like sega's old add ons for the genesis, 32x and sega cd, except those WERE add ons.

The only reason why Nintendo left the wii name in there is cause they thought it would help sell as well since the original wii was so popular but it backfired on them.

The wii's audience is not buying the wiiU.

I'm also 90% sure the creator of this title is looking for hits by saying the store didn't know the difference between the two, when the store could've decided it was a better idea to put in two Wii games instead of WiiU ones, just to get rid of their Wii games. There appears to be an unbased conclusion made by Reardan and/or John Kinsley(whoever said the store screwed up)

I seriously doubt people are getting confused when they see the WiiU mistaking it for a Wii.. I think most consumers are aware of its hardware specs, and know its a rip off buying something thats twice as expensive as a PS3, or Xbox with an almost non existant library.. Thats why it isnt selling...

Or that most retailers rather recommend buying a PS3 or 360 when people ask about the new WiiU.

Was at toy's-r-us this morning and was looking at the wii U. Thought about getting one but there was nothing that stood out to me. Gonna wait it out, especially if they announce the ps4 on wed.
