PS3 is the spoiled brat that had everything for it.
It came in to be a success but had to struggle and wasn't used to, since the Grand dad had built this life of his with a success of over 100 mil consoles as well as the daddy did the same.

So it came in saying I AM A PLAYSTATION and realized it has to fight for its rights.
this made it a console with a legend of its own, a tail of hard work and success.
It is in a whole other level than just calling it the greatest of all time.

It is a Legend.
A console that the world deserved, but not a console that they needed, so they chased him and tried to destroy him....

If there's one thing that's embodied PS3 for me this gen it's LittleBigPlanet. I applaud Sony for their continued support for the risky but highly imaginative titles. PS3 had a lot of games that came under that umbrella. Which made PS3 the best in my opinion

yep i think heavy rain was revolutionary is aswell in the gaming industry though many people would say otherwise and i think Beyond will be just as important. getting real actors to do a complete mo-cap that includes body,face and eyeball movements AND the voice acting at the same time is a huge step forward. i respect sony for making that possible.

Funny how the tides have changed and Sony throwing money at developers for exclusivity is now somehow a good thing.

LittleBigPlanet, Infamous, Resistance, Heavy Rain, etc were all original IP's created by independent developers. Sony's role was simply paying to deny the experience to a wider audience. You should be thanking the developers not Sony for the aforementioned IP's.

MM originally pitched the LBP idea to Microsoft but they declined due to their strict policies on Live. The others were funded by Sony and Sony was the only one to even want to chance publishing Heavy Rain.

So where are their LittleBigPlanet's, Journey, Heavy Rain, Last Guardian, Beyond, Flower, Pixeljunk etc. games?

Sony has shown more willingness to encourage these type of games

And in Media Molecules case, they went to Sony with their LBP idea and they loved that Sony totally got what they wanted to achieve. And Sony supported that fully. Look at Last Guardian. Any other company would have canned that by now but Sony is still supporting it.

Instead Microsoft threw their money at timed DLC ($50 million for GTA4 timed DLC was it?) and an eyetoy knock off while simultaneously giving their core fans the middle finger to focus on the casuals (as evident in the last 3 E3's)

And Nintendo has spent that money on....yet another console with old hardware, sold at a premium price, with no games. What did they spend their money on???

Sony have a lot of 2nd party studios where as Nintendo and MS have none.

I'm not sure on the exact methodology being used but we do know it means a contract of sorts where Sony own the franchise and pay the bills for its creation.

Looks like PR talk though as the contract essientially does what he says they do not... just accomplished differently.

Thatgamecompany created Flower, Journey and Flow not Sony and they were/are bound by a 3 game exclusivity deal, which almost bankrupted them, the same is probably true for many other PS3 exclusives (bar 1st party, going near bankrupt).

Sony are pushing exclusives because third party exclusives are near extinct (something Sony relied on the past two generations), PS3 third party support is not as strong as the Xbox 360 and buying a PS3 for anything other than Blu-ray and exclusives is pointless as multiplatform games are generally worse on the system and the online, though free, is still lacking.

Sony are relying on the strategy used by Sega with the Dreamcast, and we all know how that turned out.

You mention MS paying $50 million for timed-exclusive DLC but missed the overall outcome. Not only did it actually "help" fund GTA4 for multiple platforms, but the DLC was not restricted to a single console despite the initial investment. How is that a negative?

Nintendo and MS turned down Media Molecule, guess who took them. They take risks on developers because they see potential there and are very helpful in their growth, that's why so many second party developers love to create games on their system.

If it weren't for Sony we wouldn't see the full potential of these developers. Sony gives them the ability to showcase to us gamers, whereas the developers gets the tools to grow and not be stunted like some other companies do to developers

As a fan of the original I was so looking forward to Warhawk after that reveal trailer with 100's of ships and a big Mothership, then it turned into an MP game.

I've been playing warhawk again lately and I honestly think its simultaneously the most utterly mental and ridiculous multiplayer experience I've ever played yet the best multiplayer game I've ever played as well

I only ever play in the official severs for CTF, 32 player rooms. And the game is insane. For anyone who hasn't played it, the maps are huge btw. Yet within seconds of spawning you can get shot down. If you start flying, within seconds the enemy team is onto you and shooting you down. When you try to spawn in an area with a warhawk, someone's taken it by the time you've ran to it. It's insane

Yet at the same time is so exciting. I've never played a more intense and adrenaline pumping game in my life. Trying to fight to capture zones and then fighting to bring back the enemy flag over such huge maps, by running or car or tank, with your teammates and wingmen all protecting you, is utterly exhilarating. You really get the sense of teamwork and managing to get the flag out of enemy base makes your heart smack around your ribcage like its pinball.

The strategy, awareness, planning, teamwork that you need and learn through this game is amazing. I've had a friend on my psn list for years because I met him when I first played warhawk and we always look out for each other and work together to get the flags. So he'll be hiding somewhere in a car and the moment I've got the flag, he drives up and I jump down and straight in the car and drive off. There's been a few times where there's been no cars available and he has the flag so I fly down in the warhawk and he jumps on top of the plane, and I fly him to safety in hover mode while he's standing on top of the plane and then capture the flag

Utterly awesome game, still as good as ever, still as ridiculously mental as ever, still the best multiplayer game I've ever played. Love it.

Warhawk doesn't need single player, it's a multiplayer game now, and a damned good one. Besides, we already got a taste of what Warhawk single player would be like(from starhawk), and it was terrible, and I wouldn't want the devs making another one, they need to just stick to what people want and what they're good at, the multiplayer side.

Never before had I heard sound like that in a videogame. You could feel it more than hear it and it gave you that huge sense of an immense structure being destroyed. Even the Deathstar blowing up didnt sound that good. Truly epic.

That's what it may have been in truth, but to them it was their best effort. I followed the game online before release quite a lot, and they were really excited about the campaign and the story, they really thought what they had was good at the time. It was annoying at how much they promoted the campaign online. But look it turned out. The content that was there was very mediocre, and dropping the multiplayer would probably just mean a longer, but not better, game. They would be taking a huge gamble attempting to do it right this time, to make a good sp, a gamble that honestly isn't worth it and nobody but a very select few want them to take.

They should just focus on multiplayer from now on. Warhawk had some of the best multiplayer out there. I'm dying for a real sequel to the ps3 version.

Even though Sony struggle at the beginning of this gen with PS3. The PS3 continue to grow with amazing exclusives for the hardcore audience while introducing a 1:1 motion technology that was not force on the consumer but given as an option unlike another company who has abandoned the hardcore audience to chase the casuals. With amazing games & franchises like Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted, Killzone, Ratchet & Clank, LittleBigPlanet, Gran Turismo 5, God Of War, Heavy Rain, inFamous, & more the PS3 is the only one still delivering hardcore games even with next gen consoles coming. Just like the PS1, PS2, PSP, and soon to be mine PS Vita I do not regret purchasing a PlayStation 3 nor would I ever sale it.

Ps3 has been awesome and home to some of my fav. games of all time which include Demon Souls, Uc2, Ni No Kuni, Mgs 4, and Kz2. In all honesty even before the release of PS4 on the 20th ( 2 days to go.. ) I do think/believe that the PS3 is by far the most significant and most highly progressive of all the consoles that Sony has produced.

through the years things have been brutal, the console war this gen was brutal for everyone, but nobody got it as hard as the PlayStation gamers did, sure Xbox 360 fancy feature this, fancy feature that. Yet.. the reason I've been playing my PS3 for so long is quite simple, the games.

The games we've been given this gen simply cannot be compared to by other exclusives, I've rarely been given a "Wow.." moment this gen, but whenever they did happen, I was playing either MGS4 whilst watching that Raiden vs Vamp cutscenes, or God of War 3 when I was fighting that HUGE Titan! or Uncharted 2 when I was standing on that huge building looking out at the landscape.

For me, PS3 delivered the games & that's why I'm a PlayStation gamer.

PS4, I expect the same. :)

In the beginning Sony made quite a bit of mistakes with the launch of the PS3. However over time kudos to them to digging themselves out of the hole they put themselves in & delivering what the PS3 should've been from the very beginning.

Hopefully they learned a lot from this gen on what not to do & maybe just maybe lead the industry once again that saw the industry at its very best. Hopefully we will not see an inferior product drag a system down & that we will see the best of both systems from the very beginning.

Watching this video makes you realise that while the Ps2 era had games, the Ps3 era had in the place of lots of games, loads of other things. It had PSN, PsPlus, the Move, Cloud Saving, downloadable titles. And yet, speaking in equivalents, I don't think the Ps3 has done as well as the Ps2. There's been such a rush to innovate and introduce new ideas. The Ps2 was simple and unadorned and was one of the best consoles ever made, with one of the best game catalogues ever.

I feel like technology is making people ADD. All these companies with their super-frequent updates and new services don't seem to realise that none of this shit is really THAT important. Just give us a console with loads of good games and it should succeed.

And I'm not speaking out against Sony or the playstation. It's a pattern that's emerging. Technology is just moving way too fast and there's this scramble to be the best most profitable company, and to do this, for some reason, you have to be relentlessly innovative. All these bells and whistles feel so shallow, like they haven't had time to mature. I hope for the Ps4, Sony just cools off with all the ridiuclous features and lets them become something more substantial. Instead of introducing more and more stuff, just work with ALL the stuff they've got and make some damn games.

oh,the ps3,well to be honest i was a late bloomer for the ps3,i bought it about 3 years ago when the price was right,but the difference experience that i had with playstion 3 compared to the ps1 and 2 is that on ps3 i gamed alone since all my friends including me are busy with work,family and so on.So to the young ones enjoy your care free days really well coz once you become an adult those days are what you look back and smile unless your married and and have kids hehe(dont misunderstand,i meant if you are married you would create new and wonderfull moments and experince with your wife and kids).peace

Oh yeah,on note i was a little disappointed that there were no suikoden or any football manager on the ps3 era but the big ps3 exclusive library cured it :),heres hoping a suikoden and football manager games on the ps4 era.

Going by these videois the PSP and PS Vita will be next so it brings me to a conclusion that one of three things will happen on wednesday. (1) They will announce a new handheld or (2) They will announce the PS4 with a handheld style controller resembling the PS Vita or (3) They will announce the PS4 and you can use the PS Vita as a controller for PS4 games.

I'm not a rich man, not poor but not rich either so what the hell do I do????

I was a PS3 user since launch but last year moved to Xbox. A move I'm happy with btw.

However the news for the PS4 has got me excited if I'm honest. They got the ability and I want them to get it right.

Decision in the end is do I get:
1. A PC
2. A Steam Box
3. PS4
4. Xbox 720

I want all 4 but that's not an option. I am however struggling to see how the Steam Box will ever be that powerful to be online with a PC.

Decisions Decisions.

P.s Before I get flamed I'm not a fan-boy of any particular one. I just want to enjoy the hardware not get into fights on which ones best.

Agreed, but just go with the one with the "best" set of games for YOU, then just wait on the other consoles (obviously they will see price cuts, so from there on in, it's just a waiting game).

Was I the only one to cringe when they mention leading us into a digital future? Never liked being forced to do the digital thing, which is why I was happy the PSPGO flopped. I will always want my physical media, and I have a feeling that Sony is pushing hardest to eliminate physical media.

The main reason I CANT get into digital is because of a bandwidth cap, 150 gigs a month and most of that goes to normal day to day use as it is. Every Youtube video, Hulu show or Netflix show takes up that bandwidth, I wouldn't be able to get a game a month if I were forced too.
