Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Review - TGH

"If you had told me that Sega’s sequel to Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing was going to be one of the best arcade racers I’ve played this year I’d probably just roll my eyes and write you off as some Sega-loving fool; blinded by the roster and environments, and thus totally overlooking the gimmicky transforming vehicles. Of coure, I’d be totally wrong for thinking that as, after spending quality time snuggled up to the Wii U version of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, Sumo Digital has created one hell of a racing title."

This game looks so cool, might pick it up if I find it on sale.

So the author basically admits having false pre-concieved notions about Sega games, like many "jornalolists" before him.

I read a comment by someone working at a gaming store, who said he'd steer customers away from this game because he just assumed it sucks (The lol-sega/sonic sucks bandwagon), but he regret it because he has seen a postive review for this game on the internet.

Laughable... and kind of unfortunate... Think of how many people were turned off from the game because of people like him, who critisize games they never played and just ride any bandwagon that makes them look cool.

Sega games are good as a whole, but the fools who slag them off are the same fools who slag Nintendo off too.

Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing was utter pap though, so it wasn't too hard to believe that the sequel would be much better. Although other reviewers out there don't think it's utterly amazing, but that's the point of differing reviews.

I was watching a few gameplay videos and damn this game look's like one hell of a racing game, I don't have a Wii U (yet) but might get the 3DS version if a demo comes out and its as good as the Wii U version.

Yes, yes it is! Damn shame that Sega never made another sequel or even updated this one with new tracks and characters.

"The platform of choice, however, is the Xbox Series X."

Yessir, the game runs extremely smooth because of the frame rate boost. Still, till this day I play Sonic ASR with friends.

Transformed is my favorite of the series. Even Team racing (the next iteration) is pretty good too but I liked transformed better.

gangsta_red820d ago

I tried team racing and it just didn't click with me as much as Transformed did.

I seriously just wish Sega would do another sequel to that game instead of trying to reinvent the wheel.

It was the best alternative to Mario Kart on Xbox/PS

Good list. Personally I’d probably trade the Sonic CD game in this list for Sonic the Hedgehog (1), simply because CD is quite easy so you’ll blast through it, and the original Sonic was basically a new benchmark when it was released which blew everything and everyone at the time away. It also features my favorite zone, Starlight Zone.

I really hope one day we’ll be blessed with a Sonic Mania 2.

Yeah, the first game will always be a classic, but I believe Sonic 2 and 3 moved the chains for the series quite a bit. Sonic CD definitely innovated as well, particularly with its amazing soundtracks and 3D bonus stage. :D

R was one of my first PC games along with Worms 2 and some others like Virtual Springfield. R was kind of good in a strange way i guess, i didn't hate it at the time.

Sonic CD was decent but I'd say i liked the music more, at least for the JP/EU version, some of the levels felt a bit all over the place and most of the bosses were odd and a bit too easy. Even though the system was a flop too it did have some very good games like Final Fight also which had some great music.

The 8-bit Sonic’s always get left off these ranked lists.

Good picks! But...SA 2 kinda fell backward on those digging segments. Great rap song tho!
