Activision recently tooted their sales horn for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 after it secured a cool $1bn in just 15 days. However according to NPD data for US retail, it sold less than Modern Warfare 3.
Combined Xbox 360 and PS3 sales puts Modern Warfare 3 at 8.8 million copies sold during its launch month, while Black Ops 2 managed just 7.4 million. This is the blockbuster series' first decline.
Following the Wii U and 3DS servers being taken offline, Call of Duty Black Ops 2 and Ghosts are officially dead.
Call of Duty players are jumping into Black Ops 2 for the final time before its Wii U servers go offline for good.
GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 leap up due to summer sales
Wow, good games never get old I guess.
CoD will always be a beast of a franchise, and how awesome is it that you can just boot it up or pop it into your Xbox and play, MS BC is really a neat feature.
That's because the US game market is dying. Despite Black Ops II and Halo 4 (two massive, MASSIVE games) and the WiiU all launching in the same time frame, the game industry sales as a whole have been down 11% compared to last year.
That's pretty bad.
Sounds about right. That seems in keeping with the overall decline we're seeing in the US games industry as a whole. Unlike some, I don't think a 10% dip in sales in the US during the current economic climate is anything to be overly concerned about.
The previous years saw a spike due to the Wii's sudden popularity, then they saw another surge of interest in Kinect when the Wii started to fall out of the public eye. The spike in interest in those two products no doubt created a bit of a bubble these past 5 years when it came to consumer spending in the US and frankly now that the bubble's burst I'm surprised the industry isn't down more.
7 days less of tracking + Halo 4 launched the week before. Need I say more?
