Wii U second only to iPhone 5 as Time's gadget of the year

Wii U got plenty of mixed reactions following its launch, and the new Nintendo console certainly didn't enjoy the widespread adoration the mainstream media heaped upon the original Wii, but that didn't stop Time Magazine from naming the Wii U as one of its standout pieces of technology for 2012. In fact, Time honored Wii U with a number two spot on its list, behind Apple's new iPhone 5.

How the hell did iPhone 5 make the top of the list? Still behind the best android phones. All they did was increase the screen size and fuck up their maps.

Good Question. I'm glad I don't take these publications seriously and usually do my own research when making a purchase. Maybe the answer to your question has something to do with $. Though, I hope nintendo gains back their integrity and makes some really cool games for this console.

Time needs their @$$ whooped. As far as the iPhone 5 goes. There are much better phones, and many tech gadgets more deserving of the "Standout pieces of technology for 2012".

Don't have a Wii-U, so I can't speak on it. But I know plenty of people with iPhone 5's, and after using my Galaxy 3 they're thinking of dropping the iPhone all together. Better yet the Note 2 should have won for best phone.

But again this is Time and not a dedicated Tech site so take it with a grain of salt.

Just looked at the whole list, and it's worse than I thought. Under the games section Little Big Planet is at number 8, and while I love LBP I'm 100% certain it was not a game from 2012. Worst of all there's no Journey, Walking Dead, or Borderlands on the top 10.

Best Movies has no mention of Avengers.

Worst movies has Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (complete BS, but not worst movie of the year AT ALL), John Carter (again nowhere near worst movie), and Cloud Atlas (nowhere near worst movie). Are these based on biggest commercial failures? Because if so the Samsung G3 should be number 1 as far as tech goes.

Songs of the year aren't any better.
