Nintendo's Wii U off to sold-out start

Shoppers still in search of Nintendo's new Wii U video game system have their work cut out for them.

I've saw several last night at my local Best Buy, so perhaps a new stock came in. I luckily picked one up for Christmas if this article is to be believed. Either that or Mr. Fils-Amie is lying to save face, which isn't impossible either. I

I just hope the console does well as I think Nintendo's vision and Sony and Microsoft's vision for hardware can all coexist.

There's probably more negative articles on the web about the system than there are sales of it(obvious hyperbole there), so this is refreshing to see a positive piece for a change.

One of our employees was in a local WalMart and found four Wii U systems on the shelf. He did say, however, that the store was out of Wii U Deluxes.

I keep hearing that people are seeing them in stores, but I haven't seen 1 in the stores where I live. I got mine day 1, and my local GameStop was turning people away. Maybe it's just a matter of where you live, but I have local friends that can't even get the standard Wii U, so they keep bugging me to come over to my house and play. Initially I was cool with it, but now I'm kinda being a d!@k. I should charge for playtime :D

Yeah, that's what I was sayin'... I can tell you South-Central Texas is sold out last i checked and if the retailers could send their stock to the interwebz, it would be gone too. There is high demand in some places, and any remaining stock could quickly sell elsewhere.

Location location location. Some areas are sold out, others not but that does not mean that to the author a sold out situation doesn't exist.

Its like when someone says their system died but you get others saying theirs works. Can't both parties be correct?

This is positive news and shows there is still lots of interest in console gaming. I just hope the Wii U isn't plagued with a bunch of garbage games like the Wii was.

Saw a few deluxe and basic at my local target here in Long Island. Guess you just got to get lucky

Same thing happened with the PS3 and Wii launch.

Especially the first Wii because the price was relatively low compared to the PS3 and XBOX. I remember the Wii going for $600 and up on eBay during the first holiday season of the console. The PS3 was going for unheard of prices on eBay too at the time, but in comparison to the percentage of return, it wasn't the 300% the Wii was getting. Still have my launch PS3 on display... she died last year, but it still looks cool to display.

Saw one Deluxe and 8 basic at a Toys R Us near Minneapolis 2 days ago. I'm sure they are gone now though. I think it's a great system so far. Even more people will be plugging in after Christmas... Miiverse is going to blow up something crazy - which is a breath of fresh air from all the hate on the internet

The best way to get your hands on the Wii U Deluxe (lets face it guys its the only version to get) is using a website the constantly check online vendors for renewed stock. I use http://www.zoolert.com/nint... and it updates on the min every min. I bought my Wii U today and the site notified me it was in stock. Check it out if you looking to get one. I dont have the time or patience driving around wasting gas hoping a Walmart or a Target may have it in stock.

The 8GB model can also be purchased online... But no one really wants that version hence the reason why its available. The Deluxe model is the one thats very VERY hard to find and often sold out in mins.

Just Nintendo once again creating fake demand, by limiting stock. It really just proves they weren't confident in their product... as we already knew from the lack of info and showing of hardware or software the last 2 E3s. Sheeple will still buy it though, because of the usual Mario, Zelda, SSB, etc. , so it will continue to "sell out".

umm....they actually stocked up pretty damn good compares to the wii. they have been replinished often so far. if they weren't confindent in the product then they wouldn't have even released it,

Both Toys R' Us and Wal Mart here in Charlottetown, PEI Canada are stock full of the 8GB version.

They have the 32GB SKU as of today. Wal Mart had their Nintendo cabinet filled with the 8GB SKU so its possible that they may have it as well. Just don't know where to put it :S
