GenGAME writes: "The dedicated Nintendo fanbase knows about it. The games industry knows about it. Does the mainstream know about it? The system is now appearing in TV and online advertisements, retail and specialty stores, and even a dedicated mall tour that’s set to kick off on Monday, but we still hear – pretty frequently, I might add – that the mainstream consumer, if he or she has even heard of Wii U, still tends to think it’s a new Wii controller.
"In the face of such an environment, it doesn’t look like Wii U is going to really be a big hit with the mainstream population – at least, not in the way that Wii was. Don’t take that to be a death sentence for the system, however. In fact, the mainstream population getting “left behind” in a way with the jump to next-gen reminds me of another of Nintendo’s generational leaps: the leap from NES to the Super NES."
Hanzala from eXputer: "The cruel hammer of Nintendo has fallen. Farewell, 3DS and Wii U, you surely brightened my life and many others; you won't be forgotten."
Hanzla from eXputer inquires: "If Xbox can care about preserving its games and legacy, what exactly is wrong with Nintendo, trying to kill game preservation single-handedly?"
Ahh yes the good old game preservation of saving all your games to a removable hhd on the Xbox 360, taking it round your mates house, setting up multiple tvs to
Be met with “save data corrupted, please re download”
Or how about removing 360 games
From the store
, download them now or else, and, better hope to god that save data doesn’t corrupt, or it’s lost for ever
Nice one ☝️
This is just a scammy PR move to distract from the fact they are going digital only and trying to push streaming and subscriptions only.
No gaming company has pushed harder to remove ownership than Microsoft.
Without discs there is no preservation, preservation can't be done by the rights holders it can only be done by the consumers, anything else is a lie.
Nobody wants this. Sales or the lack of it in the case of XBOX is very telling. I wonder how the adorably all digital series X will fare. Adorably dismal perhaps?
Only time will tell, but for from someone like me suspecting that Xbox is trying to gracefully exit the console market, that "forward compatibility" team is trying to get Xbox games playing on Windows PCs. I mean, it's nice that they're not planning on exiting with a "enjoy your games while the hardware still works" message, so that's nice. They still have a brand to protect via Microsoft so probably feel obligated to have a better exit strategy.
Danish from eXputer: "Nintendo has historically gone against player-made content and emulation of its games. This has done much to harm the company's image."
They need to stop announcing these mods and fan remakes until they're finished. Finish it, upload it, and then if Nintendo dmca's it tough shit. Once it's online, people can share it around, even if the original download gets taken down.
This is all coming from the mouth of short-sighted fandom and grifting madness.
No.... it wont. There is a clear defined reason why they don't. This is nothing new. Make your own shi7 from your own original ideas especially if you are trying to capitalize of it it. Duh.
Yeah, hire people that have zero respect or understanding for an established process. Wow. Yep. Totally makes sense.
nobody know but as i read, it surpass the wii preorder numbers and that's a great thing considering how FRESH and REVOLUTIONARY the original wii LOOKED
It doesn't really need to. Wii U will print money for Nintendo at the end of the day.
well, all i can say is that i was skeptical shortly after e3, than just a month ago i had high hopes and was looking forward to it. Now once the reviews started coming out and the lackluster advertisements i am no longer looking forward to it.
I don't want to say i'm too old for games cause i still play them on other platforms but perhaps i'm just too old for nintendo as every game i've seen thus far for this thing hasn't really impressed me...i keep hearing and reading about a "great launch lineup" but i just don't see it. i hope they start to announce some significant 1st party games as any multiplatform game i probably already have and have no desire to buy them over just cause they added a few things to accommodate the game tablet...announce metroid and zelda and i might change my mind.
