Are Single-Player Games Slowly Dying?

"Having recently purchased a new gaming laptop, my very first task was obviously to start loading it up with a plethora of games that, until then, I had only dreamed of playing. As I set about building my new PC game collection, a strange phenomenon started forming in front of me. I began to notice that all the games I was downloading were either online games, MMO’s, or single-player games that required a gaming “hub” such as Steam or Origin."

Single player only games are a dying breed

TekoIie4312d ago (Edited 4312d ago )

.......NO.........

There are less SP only games this generation but they will never die out...

Kran4312d ago (Edited 4312d ago )

Alan Wake? Assassin's Creed II? Dragon Age Origins? Deus Ex: Human Revolution? Skyrim? Ratchet and Clank future trilogy? Darksiders? Metro 2033?

All were dying games?

Ummmmm i dont think so.

mttrackmaster384312d ago

Why would you mention Assassin's Creed? That game came out in 2009 and 3 games after it have multiplayer, in the case of that franchise, single=player only is dead.

kent800820074312d ago

@mttrackmaster38 oh yeah because I totally bought assassin's creed for its multiplayer mode, who cares about the single player campaign right?

Kran4312d ago

@darkgod

that's just a minor few.

SheenuTheLegend4311d ago

assassins creed 2 was first impossible to play offline because of the DRM
They are shooting their own heads this way.
in the long run these things will effect gaming very badly

HELL NO!

Day Z, Firefall, The Last of us, Uncharted, Dead space, Mass Effect, Skyrim, STALKER Series, Metro Series, Far Cry 3, Arma Series, Portal, any RPG, etc. etc. etc.

Plenty of great Single player games to enjoy on the horizon.

Even with the switch to Online gaming you can still enjoy great SP Games like Diablo III!

Crap journalism....... I wish that was dying.

Kran4312d ago

Urm.... The Last of Us is both single player and multiplayer. The article is about single player ONLY games.

tee_bag2424311d ago

Day Z is MMO buddy. Why mention games you have no idea about ?

Canthar4312d ago

Sadly it seems to be going that way some which is sad. I do not want MP games most of the time. Just leave me alone and let me game. I deal with enough people day in day out. My time is mine.

rockbottom30764312d ago

Canthar i agree and feel the same. Not to mention if you decide you have to go online and its with a bunch of random people (not everybody has friends on the same schedule or have the same hobbies) usually its not being played the way it was intended. so please do not get rid of SP.

cervantes994312d ago

Well said Canthar, I agree 100%.

I want to be left alone most times to game and escape into the game world. Dead Space and Mass Effect were great examples of this.

stuntman_mike4312d ago

I have to agree also, getting away from peeps and sitting down on my own to play the walking dead was awesome. soaking in the atmosphere with no one around to spoil it.

as i do with a lot of games.

mananimal4312d ago (Edited 4312d ago )

Yep. couldnt have said it better.

PS3Freak4312d ago

The comments above reflect what gaming is really about.

Well said gentlemen.

R6ex4311d ago

Damn!

MP games have NO STORY!

Hate it!

Just because multiplayer games are more popular doesn't mean single player games are dying.SP games will always be around as long as people want them.

Hayabusa 1174312d ago

^^ Simply and elegantly put. Well said.

More poeple play games every year. So yes, there are more poeple who like multiplayer games now. That doesn't mean gamers don't like the single player experience Things will change only if people change. If you still want single player games to exist, then keeping spending $$$ on them. It's the only thing publishers care about rihgt?

Only because publishers can't find was to justify subscription fees for them DX

Ar Tonelico Qoga: Knell Of Ar Ciel Retro Review – Love Conquers All

Gary Green said: You’ll be forgiven if you haven’t heard of the Ar Tonelico trilogy. The previous two games arrived so late in the PS2’s life-cycle that they simply went unnoticed. While most were tinkering with their shiny new PS3s, Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia and Ar Tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica were being ‘returned to sender’ by your local Game stores. Luckily, you won’t need to have played them to understand and appreciate this third and final chapter, Qoga (pronounced k-yoga) tells the story of a racial war between humans and Reyvateils, a breed of biologically produced female cyborgs capable of reproduction, while still having a digital mind.

Oh my god. I kinda wish this would get a remaster on PS5, it would be awesome. One of my favorite games on PS3.

That and 3D Dot Game Heroes. It's a shame that some stuff is stuck on PS3.

Knightofelemia2h ago

Ar Tonelico 3 is good I still prefer the first AT game. The music is solid in all the games and Akiko Shikata is a very talented singer bringing life to the game. Only annoying part is well I find is Saki I always choose Finnel or Tyria. KOEI so needs to HD remaster the franchise along with Ar Nosurge and Ciel Nosurge since it never came to North America. I would day one the Ar Toneliceo games and Ar Nosurge if they were remastered.

I still have the limited edition of Qoga unopened. Unfortunately it never went up in value like I had hoped all these years.
