Ten things Elder Scrolls Online must do (IncGamers)

IncGamers: Elder Scrolls Online cannot be just another MMO, the quality of the single player games means that wouldn't be acceptable.

Here's ten things it must do to capture our attention.

1 thing it must do. Completely redo the thinking that old MMO formulas still work and actually listen to what fans are saying they want for this game. Basically that means allow first person view (even as a toggle), remove hotbar combat and make it more to the style the series is based upon, and generally AVOID everything WoW does.

Unless the budget for this game is like a bazillion dollars, I don't really see that happening. Given how much games are scaled back for multiplayer and combined with the fact that Elder Scrolls games are inherently glitchy, they'd need mountains of money to do what we'd all like to see. For now though, I'll just post up and see what happens.

You don't need a bazillion dollars to make a game first person and with action-oriented combat. Those are the two most requested features for this game. Look at some of the other action-oriented, non-hotbar MMO's out there. Hell, if Koei can make Dynasty Warriors Online and it plays EXACTLY like the DW games play, how come ZeniMax can't make the combat like the ES games and add a first person view option. I mean, I can see Radiant Quests and such costing big bucks, but I don't think that many would complain too much as long as the gameplay wasn't boring the way hot bar makes it.

Maybe I'm imagining the game a little different. If they do make it more like a classic beat em up style game where it's like 4 of you against the world then I can see that.

I saw the game as Oblivion/Skyrim with like 10-20+ people populating the world to help or hurt you. In that case, a bazillion dollars might be low balling it.

I honestly think its because they chose the hero engine back in 2007 and it isn't capable of doing First person or real time. Sure if they chose a dif engine they might be able to make a switch. But yeah costs and dev time would of been through the roof if Zeni Max wanted to make this like the SP ES games.

Also i think the fact that ESO not being like the tradition ES games is seriously overshadowing the positive things its doing(in terms of being an mmo). As long as they keep making the SP games i wont care.

Most of the blame for all of these WoW clones is pretty misplaced. It's wrong for developers to be lazy and greedy and take the easy way out instead of trying to create something actually interesting, but really the players themselves are the biggest reason that developers aren't making anything different, and that doesn't just apply to MMOs, either. Most games are made with non-gamers in mind, because, ironically, they are the majority. So, if the majority of the players enjoy playing with crap, that is exactly what will keep being given to them, since that's what's generating the most money.

These players enjoy the dull and repetitive gameplay, so why would any of these greedy developers and publishers want to stray from the same ancient crappy ass formula?

It's true.

Thanks to non-gamers complete lack of standards and knowledge of what constitutes a good game, the core gamers that want fresh quality experiences suffer.

I saw this on Reddit a couple of days ago, and definitely agree with this:

Two completely different things serving two completely different groups of gamers. If you're making an MMO, make an MMO. Don't make a 4-person co-op game and call it an MMO.

Virus2014371d ago

I understand that it's completely different things, but I don't think fans of TES want an MMO. When some of us heard that there was going to be a TES game with multiplayer, I'm pretty sure many of us thought of a game with the online features of Borderlands (co-op). A game where we can play on our own, then join friends and continue our adventures together. Just imagine Skyrim with the co-op feature of Borderlands. That's all we ask for. Now we are getting a WOW clone and are probably going to be charged a monthly IF we decide to purchase the game.

Christopher4371d ago

@Virus201: that's the thing, making an MMO does not mean they are not expanding on their non-MMO gameplay. You're filling in blanks on your own with that thinking.

Don't do what the Warcraft franchise did. When it became an MMO, the Warcraft RTS series completely ended. It's been since 2003, and still nothing but speculation from the fans on Warcraft 4. Blizzard seems to be doing too well with WOW to even consider returning to its roots.
