I know from forums Nintendo fans are disappointed if this rumor is true but its a step up from wii and thats all Nintendo cares about. if you own a wii and a ps3 or 360 i could see them skipping the wii-u. The sad thing is wii-u will be in the same spot as the wii now and lose most 3rd party support. when next xbox and ps4 come using next gen engines(UE4) wii-u will be left in the dust again.

Nintendo don't seem to know where they are going with this, they want the core audience, then they want to keep the casual audience....for gods sake Nintendo it's one or the other. How are you guys suppose to get good third party support when developers will look at the Nextbox and PS4 and decide to focus on games for them instead. I don't want third party games to not achieve their true potential because the Wii U can't keep up.

The ps3 was suppose to use 2 cells and 512 x ram with 256v ram but because of cost issues they where cut. If nintendo does it it will be because of cost issues.
Remeber rumor is a rumor. If the Wii U is more powerful it'll be no surprise. If not still no surprise. And you do realise running a zelda game in HD at 60fps isn't that hard. Look at God of War 3. Both those games aren't very open world. and Zelda games never have tons of enemies on the screen at once either.

Going non-cutting-edge sure seemed to work out pretty well for the Wii and DS. And then going "cutting edge" (relatively speaking) with the 3DS led to a very rocky start for the handheld.

Nintendo will always, always, always have its loyal fans. Whether the WiiU is less powerful than the PS3 or less powerful than a PS1, it doesn't matter. Most Nintendo fans will still buy it.

3ds is less powerful then vita and destorying vita to bits. well so far 3ds has much better games leaving vita for catch up game with one or two games available so far.

ds was less pwoerful then the psp, psp died long time ago while ds produced a libary of amazing games.

wii was a upgraded ps2 again number 1 in this generation due to its innovation not power. plus it had great games too. however due to its power multiplatforms games were not ported or a few downgraded.

if wii u is equal to ps3 and xbox 360 it will just make it easier for devs. but this will be a problem when ps4 and xbox 720 come out.

3DS has been out much longer then the Vita, so it had better have some good games out.

Myself being a Nintendo fan, I don't want an underpowered console, nor do I want a super powered one that will cost $500-$600 at launch, the goal I'd like to see is balance. If they make the Wii-U more powerful then the PS3, the PS4/720 is more powerful then the Wii-U, i'd be fine with this.

If there's one thing Nintendo has learned from the 3DS launch is that non Hardcore fans won't buy it if it's too expensive. They will either launch the console and let the hardcore fans buy it first then price drop in time for christmas again, or they will pull a Wii and go cheap. Because of the sales of the 3DS, i think they just might pack in a little more power into the Wii-U, but I'm not buying it if it cannot support 4 Wii-U controllers... Nobody should have to "shotgun" on who gets to use the 1 Wii-U controller, kids will be fighting over who gets to use it. I'd like to be able to play something like Goldeneye with 4 Wii-U controllers thus nobody can look off of my screen, multiplayer this way would have new endless possibility's.

@Trunk Jr: I think what nintendo learned from the 3ds was not only do they need the right pricing but the need compelling software at launch and consistent amounts of it throughout the consoles lifespan. I think if the wiiu supports 2 wiipads that should be very compelling enough for developers to make some great games. And unlike most people believe, I think the gpu and cpu are powerful enough to stream and generate great grafics across the system and tablet controllers, that's not the issue. I think whether or not nintendo is willing to put enough fast RAM in this thing will determine what its truly capable of in the end

That is one of the greatest tragedies of the Wii. There are a pretty sizable amount of good games across a wide variety of genres. A few other "underdog" games that come to mind for the Wii are Fracture, Muramasa, Little King's Story, Rhythm Heaven, Fire Emblem, and now Xenoblade and Last Story.

But of course, Wii has the reputation of "LOL SHOVELWAREZ" and so most people don't search for the gems.

It's no secret that the 3DS sold horribly pre-price cut. I'm pleased with it's success after, but it wouldn't bode well for the WiiU to follow the same path (minimal interest at launch followed by a massive price drop).

I'm basing my assumption on the fact that it's extremely lucky to get to the point where you are desired by the mainstream media and soccer moms and such even once. For Nintendo to do it twice in a row with a home console would be out of this world like lucky.

If they get the price sub 250 usd they might have a chance to be a great success with Wii U but it will never be the same as it was with the Wii. I seriously doubt that.

Oh, back on topic of your reply about market penetration. By market penetration I didn't mean 3rd worldwide, which the 3DS was not pre-price cut. I meant 6th. As in dead last. As in during the twelve weeks before the 3DS got a price drop (3 months), the 3DS was the lowest selling platform every week except one when it beat the Wii by a whopping 243 units. Before its price cut, the 3DS was selling about 90,000 units/week.

I'm not saying that's miles worse than other platforms. I'm not saying no one could turn that around (Nintendo clearly did). All I'm doing is pointing out that Nintendo doesn't want to repeat the first 4 months of the 3DS. I doubt they want the WiiU to sell 90,000 units/week and then drop the price of the WiiU early in order to gain consumer interest.

Third party developers care. I don't know if everyone read that article a few days back about what devs want in their next gen consoles, but raw processing power was on pretty much everyone's list. Epic, DICE, Crytek, Ubisoft, etc.

I've said it before: technical limitations will cause 3rd party developers to shift their attention away from Nintendo. They're not going to want to give up any ground they make with next gen engines, so as soon as they begin to make games for the PS4/Orbis and the Xbox Next/720/Durango the WiiU will gradually lose support.

It's going to be the Wii all over again. That may not matter to Nintendo, but it should matter to the people who want to play games from Epic, Rockstar, Irrational, Rocksteady, Bathesda, Bioware, Valve, DICE, Crytek, Ubisoft, etc.

I care you can't call it a next gen system if it is using last gen graphics. The Wii is a good console but has too much shovelware on it. Too me Nintendo will get left out in the dark when PS4 and Xbox720 come out. DS - second touch screen? Glorified inventory/map screen.

The WiiU will be stronger then any consul currently on the market and nintendo will have a good year and a half jump on it rivals. It only matters when fanboys say it does. If the Wii U was the most powerful system in the world everyone would be rubbing it in our faces but if the Wii U is out matched by the next gen Sony and Microsoft systems THEN power and graphics won't matter. Fox and grapes. As long as you can't get it and you can have it you deny that you want it.

That is why Nintendo always makes sure and lower your expectations from the start so when they get mediocre results, people will just make excuses for them. No one will expect much from you so they will be satisfied when they don't get it. When people kept on saying 'Good for a Wii game' that is the level they portrayed.

If they jumped up and said 'We will make a system more powerful then Sony or Microsoft will make' when it doesn't come through you will make your system look like crap in comparison.So we stick with the 'more powerful them five year old consoles' bit and the 'we don't need full HD' speeches. Start aiming low so less will be expected of you instead of aiming high in case you get to close to the sun.

Personally,

the only reason why most of us gamers here says the Wii U graphical capability is not a big deal is because we have nothing else to compare it to.

So when the PS4/720 comes out in 2013, I bet most of us here are going to change our mind and forget about the wii U if the rumor is true.

In other words, Nintendo better pack some serious power under the Wii U hood or else the Wii U will end up like the Wii.

The WiiU is 12x the 360 going off the Dev-kits 5 revisions and on how Epic says it will blow you away at E3,behind the times yeah right.

Let me put a few people straight the WiiU is 12x more powerful than 360 and 4x the graphic power of Rumoured 720 i can tell you this just from what i know so far bunch of idiot's this article is either from march last year or a few devs that havn't been getting the updated dev-kits like crytek and sega,ubi,EA,Epic,ect.

Last year the WiiU was twice the graphic power of ps3 with them tech demo's very early remember,Nintendo said they can't go down in power only up,the most recent dev-kits were hugely powerful this is after the kits getting more and more powerful with 5 revisions its the 5th one that went up in power considerably,remember this is from the 4th that was prob about 3 times as powerful as the 1st dev-kits.

Please tell me how a custom IBM power7 cpu multi-core with Watson technology/tons of EDRAM,and a Custom Radeon HD GPU that will use all the very best tech from that family of GPU's isnt at least 10x the power of ps3 or more explain.

Also if that Zelda tech demo was done on a underclocked 1st gen dev-kit and the dev-kits have gone up in power at least 5 times and there prob not underclocked anymore with the 5th one being a massive jump the WiiU is prob at 12x the power in pure graphics easy by now its why Epic say you will be surprised at E3 and the comment on the RAM will be between 1gig and 8gig also stating you will be very surprised when you here the RAM,why didnt he just say it was between 1gig and 4gig if it wasn't say 6gig as well as saying it will surprise you means its going to be at least 4gig going off that statement alone.

People need to look at the facts already there in front of you this is some anti nintendo trolls trying to put fake info out there few months before the main reveal.

For developers to come out and say that they had software up and running at high end PC levels very easily should stop all of this nonsense ranting. Well there are sites like Nintengen.com posting about how this info comes from fake sources and its a joke of an article because the WiiU was twice that of ps3 when it was running on under clocked 1st Gen dev-kits.

There's been 5 revisions since then with the most recent 1 being able to run UE4 and trust me when you follow the power of these dev-kit revisions its not hard to believe the WiiU will be around 10/15 times the power graphically of what we see know.
