The real reason why PS3 isnt doing all games in 1080p yet is because Sony doesnt want devs to be able to take full advantage of the PS3s hardware yet.

Yeah, this is pretty evident in Resistance 3.

The post-processing effects and lighting in that game are beautifully done, but as a compromise the significantly cut the resolution. So the game is blurry and edges are blocky.

It doesnt really matter if BF3 is Sub HD on console. Most of us PS3 gamers actually prefer the blurry look. 1080p is just too sharp for my eyes.

Also its not like we wont be getting a 1080p option, i wouldnt be surprised if afew years from now a HD remake is announced on the PS4, at which time we will be getting the option to buy the game in 1080p, i say its a win win situation. We get to play the game in 720p today and get to play it in 1080p later, PC gamers are stuck in hi res land and have no options.

When you line up a game running at 1080p on a 1080p monitor at 60+ FPS, then show a game that obviously has better graphics than it running at <720p on a 1080p screen at 30 FPS, one could argue that the older game at a higher res and FPS looks more visually pleasing because of how crisp and smooth the picture is.

Well good for you. Its obvious that developers are making more money by bring games that once were PC only to consoles now. You can have all the graphics you want, but the truth of the matter is all these FPS are selling way more on consoles than on PC.

Thats without 1080p and without 60fps.

The truth is, unless you own every single game platform you WILL miss out on good games.

But most of us don't have the time or the money to play EVERY good game out there. It's more about picking the platform, or platforms, that best suits your tastes and needs.

For me, most of the games I like tend to be multiplatform games. So whichever platform gives me the best experience with those games (in this case, the PC) is the platform I will tend to prefer.

The PC enhances my experience in quite a few ways: modding, better graphics & performance, better online options, etc.

I really have a problem with people who act like there is something wrong with caring about graphics or performance. They always insinuate that PC gamers care more about graphics than gameplay, which frankly is a load of crap.

Gameplay and story are of course the core of any game, and good graphics are never going to turn a bad game into a good one.

That said, once you have decided that a game IS worth your time, what is wrong with wanting to experience it in its most pristine and refined form?

It's like telling people they shouldn't care about getting that HDTV or Blu-ray player they are thinking about because it's "all about the movies". Well, duh, it's all about the movies, but that doesn't mean that you don't want to experience said movies in a more aesthetically pleasing way.

There is nothing abnormal about wanting to move from that 27" standard-def tube tv to a nice big-screen HDTV, nor is there anything wrong with wanting to experience the games you love with the best graphics and performance possible.

BTW the blurry look most of the time doesnt come from low resolution but from quincux AA they blur the whole image to make jaggies disappear like in assassins creed that really looks ugly on PS3 so blurry its not even funny. I still have to decide whats worse. having no AA or having quincux AA. Infamous 2 would be pretty if not every edge would blink like a neon sign if you move. Resolution doesnt add that much to visual quality if you dont have a huge screen or sit 10 inches away. 32 inch 2 meters away and its hard very hard to tell if 1080p or 720p the further you sit away from your screen the smaller the screen is the less you are able to see the difference until its physically impossible to tell the difference at all. The blurry pictures in consoles have less to do with resolution and more with AA. Sometimes its even used at purpose like in Infamous where the picture is blurry until you start the electricity then it becomes clear. I can live with 720p what honestly bugs me is the size of maps getting cut and just1/3 of online players thats a reason to wait for a ps4 version or to buy it for pc. the ps3 comes to its limits mainly due to lack of Ram which cant be compensated by the Cell unlike a weak gpu.The Cell is the last part aside from bluray thats not totally outdated. Ofcourse 2xBluray and a chip with a mere 235 Million Transistors is also outdated but not as extreme as the rest of the Hardware.

OnTopic, We have had this article many times before(pretty much), I'm sure people know how old the consoles are, and they must know by now how nice a game looks at 1080p and at 60FPS.

I own a pretty beastly PC and I love playing most multi platform games on there, Its lovely having smooth motion and less jaggies. But playing the same games on console does not hinder my enjoyment of the game and I regularly find myself having some good old Uncharted and Killzone sessions. I am still very impressed with the graphics. Its all still pretty damn good If you ask me, and why some people feel the need to put consoles down constantly is beyond me. Yeah consoles are old, why are you advertising such a blatant fact to people that either already know, or are just going to deny it?

For all you non PC gamers out there I would say, don't let these articles get to you, Don't fret about the version of the game you get. Know that it's still damn good and the games are rarely on 'lowest settings' as some people would like you to believe. After playing extensively on a game the differences become meaningless.

I will get battlefield on my PS3 first because of the fact that all my immediate friends only have PS3's and I will want to enjoy this great game with them, and I will not be dissapoint.
Likewise for a game like Skyrim I will get it on my PC because of the stream of MOD's that is sure to follow (and the pain of installing them)

30fps is plenty. What is this obsession with 60fps? It's sorta nice to have but the impact is minimal in anything less than fast-moving racing titles.

Pushing for 60fps in a shooter is a waste of processing power. On my PC, I always push for the most detail possible whilst staying above 25fps. If I'm at 60fps, it means there are detail sliders I need to crank up (or, it's just an old ass game).

30fps is horribly low, especially for multiplayer First-Person Shooters.
High frame-rate is essential for precise aiming, especially in engines where game-engine calculations depend on the frame-rate (such as CoD).

Nowadays, 720p is a joke in PC standards, so no it's not really a high-definition resolution. And once you try a game in complete 1080p glory on HD TVs/monitors, trust me, you wont revert back to the outdated blurry excuse of an HD res, which is 720p.

Here we go again. The Samaritan Demo could have run on a cheaper Hardware it wasnt optimized at all so they went the brute force way. Id Tech Ceo is confident (google it) that aslong as the consoles provide an usual power boost in line with Moores law they will be able to ship games in that graphic (with significant improvments over the time). Pc can ALREADY make Samaritan Demo graphics if you could optimize it on one gtx 580 they said it in the interview following the samaritan demo.

I'm really sad that the leap from console to PC is so big now. It is blatantly obvious, that consoles are far behind the curve. No questions about it.

Unfortunately for us, there is just not enough competition so we won't see a new powerful console for a while.

PC's has it's weaknesses, but nobody can argue that if a game is on PC and consoles, PC always wins in the performance department.

Yeah a lot of gamers these days really have lost sight of reality. They think the icing (graphics) is the cake (the actual gameplay). Having said that, BF3 is a game that should put to rest the whole "consoles are holding PC gaming back" BS. The same thing is true of pc gaming though it has even more exclusives, cheaper prices, free indy games, emulators, exc. The graphics and res people say dont matter dont imo, its the icing on the cake along with 3d and eyefinity. Il game on anything and everything my budget allows however if you dont have alot of cash though a console is the way to go. For 100-200 you get a 360 which can play bf3, skyrim, dark souls, and even metro 2033 which is a bit** to run. The games are still as fun imo but if you can play all and enjoy the perks why not.

TF2 is on consoles, yet compared to the PC version, it plays very different.
The Battlefield series also play differently on PC due to increased player counts.
Games that support mods also can change a lot, such as the Wanderer's mod for Fallout3.

So there's a fair bit of experiences that can only be had through PC, even if the base game itself is found on other platforms.

and actually the WIIU if it uses a modified version of AMD HD 4870 (so far as slated) will be a huge step up in graphics over the PS3/360 cause the HD4870 can do DX10.1 at 1080p with 2xMSAA very easily while maintaining 30fps with 1Gb Vram.

If that's too complex for you well I'll put it this way....The HD4870 can run Crysis maxed out in 1080p with 2xMSAA and that's a HUGE jump in console graphics from right now.

So the writers comment of "The WiiU being just a little more than current generation boxes" is TOTALLY wrong when you can go from doing barely 720p to now being able to do 1600p in which the HD4870 is capable of plus the HD4870 can do MSAA.

So that's just my two cent on Flaimbait article and I'm looking forward to the new consoles and hopefully the WIIU keeps the HD4870 cause that card was a Beast back in it's day.

At launch most console games are 10-20usd more costly then PC versions. most gamers buy 1-2games a month by the end of the year that difference alone is 200+usd, by the second year PC is already cheaper and giving you better quality of gameplay(plus its doing alot more then just playing games).

next factor in that PC games prices fall real quick, websites likes Steam and D2D give insane discounts, new games tend to cost between 10-15usd within 2-3 months of launch, something that just doesnt happen on console.

When you factor this in PC becomes cheaper much quicker. Also you dont need a 700usd PC to outperform console. 500usd PC will still play most games at 1080p, while the 350usd console will only play 5% of its games in 1080p with little to no AA.

I'm running a Q9550 on a P35 chipset with an Nvidea GTX275 and I keep up with I7's my friends play on. Nothing is clocked, and it's 4 to 6 year old tech. I buy the hot new stuff when it's not high priced. The Q9550 was $850.00 new, I bought mine for under $300.00 bucks instead of a consold. Unreal engine has not been overhauled because they don't need too, until the next gen of consolds come out.

The step up from 720p to 1080p isn't great enough for MS to rush out and make a new console. The difference isn't as obvious as the leap from XBOX to XBOX 360.

MS need to be able to show 360 owners something that they can say, "Look at the difference" and frankly, BF3 on the highest settings isn't it.

Although there is a big visual difference between 30 and 60 FPS, the difference between 720p and 1080p is minimal.

If they took out destruction, they can run BF3 at 60 frames with 32 players and possibly have it look better. The destruction takes up so much space, and honestly it's not even that cool once you get over it and at times can ruin objective gameplay strategies because everything becomes one big open space, no where to hide and flank.

They fixed some of that, or it seems they may have found a way to keep cover even after things get destroyed. Currenly playing the aplha and the metro trains after being blow up still hang out and provide cover as much as a normal train car. hopefully buildings don't just become piles of rubble and when they colapse its not scripted to fall the same way every time(take out the west wall and the building falls towards the west and adds more cover.)

Look I'm happy everyone can experience BF3 no matter the medium you use.

What I'm not happy about is devs, no matter what they do the main development for, the other versions get shafted in one way or another. This time its the consoles turn, as has been PC versions that have been having ranging quality in ports. Hopefully the console version of BF3 is still stunning and has great gameplay. I may get it for pc but i'm not sure right now.(watching how dice fine tunes the game, with the alpha and beta feedback.)

Hopefully DICE gives players both mod tools and public server files. (basically undo what activision has been trying to do.)

IDK why I'm posting this because it probably won't get read. But i think it's HILARIOUS that the MOMENT the BF3 PC video was shown suddenly everyone is a PC gamer, and suddenly people are bashing consoles. It's gone from PS3 vs 360 to Console versus PC out of nowhere. While there is a community for PC that is hardcore, it's NEVER been so prevalent all of a sudden. Where was all the PS2 vs XBOX talk? PC games are meant to have a similar, but enhanced experience that was tailored to the control set. This is how it used to be; now development cycles have been geared towards a focus on console development. The PC game market, became less diverse and it became the platform to port to.
DICE, from what I can see, is going back to being on its own track, instead of riding off the success of titles that were clearly designed for the consoles in mind.
Judge my opinions how you might, but I'm stating facts with little bias to PC or consoles.

One thing I realized when I got pretty hard into the PC scene was how elitist they are towards consoles. Some of it has merit, I mean I always turn off Aim assist and I cannot stand when the game jerks my sights slightly when an enemy runs through it, but at the same time console gamers are ignorant and blind fan boys and retort with horrible logic towards the PC crowd.

Is this gen of consoles outdated? Maybe so, my personal opinion is that it has a few years left before we absolutely NEED another cycle.

Can PCs play games at better settings? Absolutely, if you have the hardware(and no you don't need to spend a stupid amount of money on it either, I have always built my rigs from the ground up and they broke the $1k mark because I WANTED THEM TOO, not because they had too).

Is one better than the other? Not really, it all comes down to personal preference. I personally do both, play my console at home in my comfortable chair, on my plasma HDTV, and I use my laptop to play TF2 and such at work(btw this is a laptop I got on Newegg for less than $500 and it can run TF2 damn near max at a constant 35-45fps, pretty impressive in my opinion)

Do games still come out this generation that make great use of the consoles and looks and play amazing? Of course, developers are always finding new ways to push the hardware to the limit and get the most of it. Sure they run at a locked(usually) 30fps, and games like COD run at 60fps(for the most part, at least you think it does because you cannot tell the difference between 45 and 60 fps without a FPS counter like FRAPS), but console gamers are becoming more and more patient this generation because great games are still coming out.

I actually hope now everyone can get off of this huge "GFX MAKE GAME GOOD" phase we have been in for a few years now and focus more on gameplay. Uncharted looks great, R3 looks great, Gears 3 looks great, hell even the next Halo will look good(considering it is Halo, they all look about the same with better textures and lighting), but with online gaming being such a huge focal point in this generation, console gamers(from my observation) are starting not to care as much about the "OMG GFX" and just want to get online with some buddies and frag it up.

I play Crysis 2 on my PS3 and the game has frame rate issues pretty bad at times, but it is fun and I enjoy playing it so I do, as does the rest of the community that does. COD runs at sub HD resolutions and is still the biggest game franchise in the world(next to WoW) money wise and people are eating it up because it is addicting for them and they enjoy it.

The next generation of consoles will run at True 1080p(one could hope) and they will last longer than this generation has/is, and of course the PC side will always end up beating the consoles on the GFX front because that is what the hardware is for.

BF3 on PC has more players and better GFX, BF3 on consoles will have a larger install base and has 24 players, and yet those who buy the game on their preferred platform with relish in it and not really give a damn about the rest.

So in the end, sit down, shut up, enjoy your platform, and frag some n00bs with your buddies while drinking a few beers.

The issue is more that the PC hardware market doesn't support longevity. Hardware becomes obsolete almost as soon as you get the PC home. Graphics cards are always on the rise in specs and price too.

Consoles as a fixed spec machine are not trying to compete with PC but provide a solid return on investment and in that area that FAR EXCEED the PC's capabilities.

And to be honest when caught in the middle of a firefight in BF3 who is really going to question whether it is 720p or 1080p?

My preference is a large HDTV, Surround sound and a Joypad.
