pretty good list. honestly I wouldn't be able to rank those games since they all look equally amazing to me. not to mention uncharted 2 and white knight chronicles isn't listed

NewNameNow5346d ago

I agree Uncharted 2 should have been listed but I really wanted to put the others up as I personally never played the first. Although if I had to replace one it would be Ratchet Future with Uncharted since it does look really good.

Madusha5346d ago

Uncharted 2 and God of War 3 is going to be absolutely mind blowing :D

Venomish5346d ago

Modnation Racers a honorable mention in ps3 top 5 exclusives
too much of a joke

Game13a13y5346d ago

take out Modnation Racers then your list is good to go. come on, lets not forget the Agent, the secret exclusive from R*

BattleAxe5346d ago

Exclusives I'm getting day one:

- Uncharted 2
- MAG
- God of War 3
- Quantum Theory

Multi-platform games I'm getting day one:

- Operation Flashpoint 2
- Modern Warfare 2
- BattleField: Bad Company 2
- Call of Duty Classic

SnuggleBandit5346d ago

This just shows how many people don't know about uncharted 2...the mainstream folks have no idea. Never heard of it.

WildArmed5346d ago

I agree for the most part.
But i wouldnt rank heavy rain up there.. since imo, its a less established franchise. (first of its kind!). i'd move up the list n put Uncharted 2 instead. n heavy rain as honorable mention

mastiffchild5346d ago

Being a BIG fan of Shenmue and Farenheit/IP I HAVE to disagree. The fact Sony have allowed so much of a free reign to QD with HY is part of why I value haiving them as part of the gaming scene. No other console maker would push such a(currently) niche title like they have and it's the duty of gamers, like us, in the know to trumpet games which might point the way to successful genres of the future like this.

It's a sumptuous looking game with a different emphasis to pretty much anythuing else releasing in the near future-it's brave, different and thought provoking and those are attrinutes more games should have in this gay and age of constantly recycled sequels and tired yearly releasing franchises. When was the last time such an oblique ganme got this kind of support? Probably Shenmue-and because word never got round despite most people who tried it loving it-it nearly killed Sega off single handed. That's why we owe it to ourselves to push this esp if we want more brave, refreshing games to follow it.

End of support broadcast for under appreciated developers.

Sarcasm5345d ago

Man, Kratos does look insane from that picture. One dude nobody should mess with.

Tachyon_Nova5345d ago (Edited 5345d ago )

If it was up to me, I'd have to do a top 12 list.
1: Gran Turismo 5
2: Agent - Not much is known, but seeing who its being made by...
3: Ratchet and Clank: ACiT
4: Uncharted 2
5: Final Fantasy XIII Versus
6: Massive Action Game - if they can keep lag out of the game
7: Quantum or Quantum Theory (Have they settled on a name yet? Last I heard they had gone back to Quantum Theory.
8: Heavy Rain
9: God of War III (Probably should be higher, but I've only ever played the original so I haven't kept up with the series.
10: The Last Guardian
11: The Agency
12: Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2

These aren't in a definite order, its way to hard to order that list of games in terms of greatness. Its gonna be happy hunting for my PS3 over the next 12 months, thats for sure. :)

foxtheory5345d ago

My PS3 will certainly be happy in the next year, even though it already is!

N4GAddict5345d ago

The Last Guardian should be #1 imo.

TheReaper425345d ago

my top 5 would be

1 - FFvXIII
2 - GT5
3 - GOW3
4 - UC2
5 - Heavy Rain.

I bought the PS1 for Final Fantasy 7
I bought the PS2 for GT and the next Final Fantasy
Bought the PS3 waiting for FFvXIII.

patterson5346d ago

Nice list. Needs more Last Guardian though.

- Ghost of Sparta -5346d ago (Edited 5346d ago )

Exactly. I would have replaced Versus with The Last Guardian and where the f*ck is Uncharted 2? List fails.

10. Demon's Souls
9. Starhawk
8. Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time
7. MAG
6. Heavy Rain
5. Gran Turismo 5
4. Agent
3. Uncharted 2
2. God of War 3
1. The Last Guardian

NewNameNow5346d ago

@ Ghost of Sparta

Uncharted 2 deserves the number 0 spot it seems.

patterson5346d ago (Edited 5346d ago )

1) The Last Guardian
2) Uncharted 2
3) Gran Turismo 5
4) Final Fantasy Versus XIII
5) Yakuza 3 (I know they said it's not coming but I don't believe them! :P)
6) Heavy Rain
7) MLB 09 The Show
8) Atelier Rorona: Alchemist of Arland
9) Trinity Universe
10) Last Rebellion
11) Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time

Hey what can I say, I like rpgs >_>

NewNameNow5346d ago

@Patterson

Great list, and I haven't played too many good RPG's lately. I'll check those out.

jBat175345d ago (Edited 5345d ago )

1. Demon's Soul
2. Uncharted 2
3. GT5
4. R&C: ACIT
5. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2

i already pre-ordered all except GT5, which will certainly be pre-ordered when available.

xbots would probably cry if they knew we will also be getting GOW 1 and 2 re-make, PJ: Shooter and Eyepet this year. (i forgot AFRIKA, a niche title but would be a must-buy for me if you can export pictures to harddrive)

Games to be released EARLY next year (confirmed with a "release month")
1. WKC
2. GOW3
3. Heavy Rain
4. MAG
5. The Show 10 (best rated sports series)

Christopher_Walken5346d ago

Too many awesome exclusives to even come close to being able to fit all the greatness into a top 5 list.

NewNameNow5346d ago

Definitely agree with you but I tried!

zenosaga045346d ago (Edited 5346d ago )

good list I also think that Uncharted 2 and The Last Guardian will be amazing titles.

I think it's too hard to just pick 5 exclusives, because Demon's Souls, Modnation Racers, and White Knight Chronicles look spectacular as well. Maybe next time there should be a top 10 upcoming exclusives list lol

JL5346d ago

Eh the list is pretty good. I'm sure all will be enjoyable games to those that they appeal to. However, my list probably wouldn't look like that at all. Definitely would've taken Ratchet off for Uncharted 2. I'm glad you mention ModNation as well. Cause that game looks awesome to me and I'd probably rate it much higher than it seems the game gets credit for. Even ModNation I'd personally put above Ratchet. But you're right, Top 10 would be much better. For me though Uncharted 2 has to sit at #1. GT5 gets 2. Heavy Rain 3. GOWIII at 4. And might quite possibly have to put ModNation at 5. Either that or MAG. Then flesh the top 10 out with Versus, TLG, WKC, and Ratchet.

Sh*t, forgot about Demon's Souls even after you mentioned it. That would probably have to fight for that #5 spot for me alongside ModNation and MAG. Then the other two get 6 and 7. While Versus, TLG and WKC fight for the bottom three spots (have to bump Ratchet--just not that into it).

SixTwoTwo5346d ago (Edited 5346d ago )

There are a lot of PS3 exclusives coming out over the next 12 months. I'm sure everyone will have a different top 5. For me its U2, GoW3, Agent, FFXIV, and TLG.

Mugen Souls Retro Review – Sexy Demon Space Adventure

Gary Green said: We have a juxtaposition of 2D and 3D visuals, flashy turn-based combat, quirky anime characters with cheeky dialogue with plenty of partial nudity; Yes, this is a Compile Heart JRPG. Whilst the engine is borrowed from Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, Mugen Souls is more of a Disgaea spin-off. It’s not a strategy RPG as such, it merely sits within Disgaea’s ever-expanding universe (Multiverse? Netherverse? Your guess is as good as mine). You won’t find cameos though, since Mugen Souls is a franchise which aims to stand on its own two feet.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies8h ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken3h ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing6919h ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker18h ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo18h ago(Edited 18h ago)

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing6918h ago(Edited 18h ago)

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos15h ago(Edited 15h ago)

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt6h ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken3h ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos1d ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto23h ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger8823h ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).

ChasterMies13h ago

Trevor in GTA 6 is a sadist and psychopath who dabbles in cannibalism. Should be top of the list. These game “news” sites should hire people that know games.
