The Future of Mobile Gaming

GamerFitNation: What is the future of mobile gaming? Is it the Nintendo 3DS, or is it the iPhone? Both systems are good at what they do, and that is to allow people to play games while on the go. However, each one has its drawbacks, mostly in the fact that they will never be able to match up to the gaming experience of a full system like the PS3, or a PC.

I think its a good market for devs for smaller projects but full blown AAA type games, I dont think its a good future on mobile games because most ppl just like simple games like tetris & angry birds on the phone when they are bored.

I think that's quite of an issue.. likely one of the reasons there aren't as much "AAA" handheld titles as much as a lot would've wanted.

The article should have also dealt with pricing schemes with mobiles and the impending tactile controls for mobile devices.

It matters. In places mobile gaming is a big thing. A lot of people want mobile games similar to console counterparts. This is also happening with Apple and Android devices.

Dead Trigger is the perfect example of a apple/android game that shows how far gaming on these devices can go. Many of Square Enix's games on these devices are also console quality. Games like these are really popular in app stores.

Handhelds like 3ds and Vita are perfect if you want console quality games on the go. You really don't get as many 2d side scrollers or simple games on handhelds anymore. In Japan they are buying these handhelds like hot cakes.

I'm really amazed at how fast handhelds are evolving. I can play GTA 3 and Vice City on my android device. 10 years ago that would have seemed like something on Back to The Future.

There's a difference between handheld gaming, and mobile gaming. Handheld gives you a console in your hand (3DS AND Vita, not sure why they didn't mention Vita.) Mobile gaming, are games on your cell phone.

EDIT: Just read it through, and the reason they didn't include the Vita was because they were too lazy to type it or something? Not sure, I don't get their little note on why. Anyway, I will always support handheld gaming over mobile any day.

But you can get console quality games on a mobile device.

You can purchase and run games like GTA 3, Vice City, and Final Fantasy 3 on a Android phone or Apple device.

You can also install emulators. Like right now, I'm running a Psone emulator and I'm playing games like FF 7, Tomb Raider, and Dead Or Alive 1.

Yes, but the lack of physical controls, as well as the lack of exclusives are what set them apart.

Not to mention, most of the time you'd be paying a lot more for a decent mobile phone than you would for a handheld that's dedicated to gaming.

Then there's the fact that you can't get physical media on a phone. (Which I absolutely love whenever I can get it.)

There are other factors I'm sure I'm not remembering at the moment, but there are definitely things that set them apart.

Moga controller is the physical controller u seek. They sell em stores now too. There are exclusives too on the Moga app that links you to all the games its compatible with.
