Resistance Fall of Man was a great launch title for the PS3. For those of us that purchased a PS3 at launch, we had a game that lasted us all over 9 months without complaint. Graphics at the time were top notch but with the release of CoD4 we all can see that the PS3 is capable of so much more. Single player mode was exciting and challenging. I liked the way Insomniac incorporated offline story achievments with online prestige rewards. Multiplayer was in my mind one of the crown jewels of Resistance. Tie in together great community support, continuing updates and patches and add in a fast paced run and gun gameplay and youve got a great game with high replay value. Had it not been for Resistance, Sonys PS3 launch would have been a complete flop. The story while set in a WWII setting might not be a truly original setting was spiced up by combing an alien/infection for an alternate history instead of Nazi domination. One great thing this leaves for Insomniac is a wide open door for what appears to be a least a trilogy if not more for a great PS3 exclusive franchise.
The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.
Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!
The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer
Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱
While it's been on ice for as long as it was around, the Resistance franchise has no shortage of quality.
My take:
Single player
3, 2, 1
Multiplayer
3, 1, 2
Overall
3, 2, 1
I beat the lengthy single player in 1 multiple times and spent hours in the online too. Plus 1 featured my home town! Special mention to the audio design in 1: playing that with surround headphones blew me away.
Note: I have the platinum for Resistance 2.
I only played the 3 main Resistance titles. My ranking would be;
1. Resistance 3
2. Resistance: Fall of Man
3. Resistance 2
Man I loved 3's campaign. Another gem stuck on the ps3 and who knows if insomniac will go back to the franchise.
Days Gone director & former Bend Studio dev Jeff Ross says he pitched an open-world Resistance game to Sony; he wasn't interested in a Syphon Filter reboot.
Sony rejected an open world Resistance? Come ON guys. Stop with these timed deals for Deathloop etc and let’s go!
This plus the fact Days Gone hit 9 million has me scratching my head this week. Why so cynical?
As far as Syphon Filter goes, it's a shame that after two generations of leaks and rumors the game was never actually in development. MGS is dead, Splinter Cell might as well be dead from what we've heard. Sony's had a massive opportunity to come in and take over a dormant genre, and they're just dragging their feet. So many opportunities to bring franchises back and they just don't.
I really wish we got more grounded action-crime or action-espionage games, not everything has to be over the top action RPGs and have sci-fi/superhero/fantasy elements.
Especially after seeing that jawdropping Matrix showcase... we can really rival some great action films if done right :O
Shame about Siphon Filter as I believe there is a market for it.
Also, there are some rumors that Sony is working on a new game that mix both Splinter Cell and MGS features.
Let's hope it is true.
=)
thanks :-)
The most fun I had in An FPS game since GoldenEye.
