Xbox One’s cloud will help mitigate development costs, says Bruno

There are a number of things that Microsoft's upcoming Xbox Live Compute will affect including processing power and how resources are allocated. Examiner was curious about how it would impact development costs so in our exclusive interview with John Bruno, Lead Program Manager at Xbox Live, we asked him what he thought.

Whats up with all this cloud News lately

Gr1mmyshadows3860d ago

i was thinking the same exact thing

NewMonday3860d ago (Edited 3860d ago )

this gif sums how games will work on the cloud ..

http://www.ps4gamers.co.uk/...

Freedomland3860d ago

If the same game you want to play without internet then what will happen.
So SP=No
MP=maybe
Because in MP the different speed of internet connection will destroy the gameplay.
One player will have the assets loaded quickly, the other one will have to wait because of connection speed.

Dread3860d ago

wow

sony fanboys (not saying u r one by the way) complain that MS has not demostrated how the cloud can be used to enhance gaming and now MS is trying to explain its benefits in great detail. Now people critizes the fact thta they are trying to explain its benefits

MS cant win.

AngelicIceDiamond3860d ago (Edited 3860d ago )

@Dread Monday IS a Sony Fanboy. And one of the worse ones on this site as well. Just bubble him down every time he post's on X1 articles.

Btw I don't like Mondays...

Anyway.

I strongly believe the cloud will benefit the Xbox and devs in some form or fashion. The AI, and cloth enhancing I can see as well, but persistent and ever changing worlds and bettering graphics remains to be seen.

Optimistic, but remains to be seen. And yes I really hope MS comes through with this.

Volkama3860d ago

A Sony 1st party dev came up with some of the best evidence of the potential of cloud computing earlier today. Apparently Killzone Shadowfall can handle 24 individual AIs before the framerate starts to drop.

Offload AI to the cloud and that limitation is gone. That is entirely plausible, the AI will be able to respond to you quicker than an online opponent and the resulting actions take a tiny amount of bandwidth.

This is no slight on Killzone, I'm not saying it's a bad game. It's just a nice example of where cloud compute could be applied to achieve something new.

nukeitall3860d ago (Edited 3860d ago )

It really makes you wonder why monday has so many bubbles, yet he trolls in Xbox One news.

@Volkama:

Exactly! and if cloud is not available, revert to the default standard of 24 opponents.

jackanderson19853860d ago

it's "week of xbox one", MS are pumping out a ton of info about xbox one this week... everyday at 2pm GMT or 6am PST they're releasing some info... yesterday was the clouds chance and people are latching onto it and interviewing the main guy of the article Bruno

kickerz3860d ago

More and more people are starting to see its awesome potential.

EXVirtual3860d ago

I really don't think the Cloud is going to do all these amazing things MS says it will. Even if you use the cloud to an extent, it's reliant on a steady internet connection. Helping out AI is something I can understand, but graphics? Effecting game development costs? C'mon.

AngelicIceDiamond3860d ago

Ehh, sounds cool but we just gotta wait and see.

tuglu_pati3860d ago

MS is offering the cloud FREE to developers, which helps with arbitrary development needs, therefore saving developers time AND money. So I think it could defenitely lower development cost.

Funantic13860d ago

Nvidia Cloudlight enhances graphics, so why can't Azure Cloud?

http://youtu.be/aiWdJxshWMM

thrust3860d ago

Boom, that right there!

MasterCornholio3860d ago

Because Nvidias solution is GPU based while Microsoft's is CPU based. They are two different types of cloud servers.

Nexus 7 2013

Kayant3860d ago (Edited 3860d ago )

True but that was also a tech demo done in a controlled environment in july 2013 so the application of that in the real world won't be seen anytime soon. Also like mastercornholio said its very heavily gpu based which is expensive atm.

So we will have to wait and see....

dethpuck3860d ago

It alone won't enhance graphics. However by offloading some of the other things the CPU does, can free it up to enhance graphics

jackanderson19853860d ago

you're making the assumption the cloud needs to work from day 1.. this could be another 8 year or longer generation and if MS get it up and running and broadband speeds catch up within a year then they'll be flying

EXVirtual3860d ago

Yeah, but that's 8 years. By then the gen will be over.

jackanderson19853860d ago

@exvirtual.... i meant if MS get the cloud based stuff and the broadband speeds roll out within a year (dunno about US but in Ireland that roll out has already happened with very few areas without decent speed internet)... i've heard something about google fibre but honestly don't know much about it so not sure when the planned completion of that is

Bluemaster773860d ago

This appears to make sense. Take the burden off the developers with respect to providing a network infrastructure, and they can utilize those resources towards making a better, more ambitious online experience over all. Its a Win-Win.

HugoDrax3860d ago

Thus why Respawn Entertainment has been able to make such an amazing shooter :-). I think next gen I'm most excited for Destiny, The Order, TitanFall, and that Zombie Parkour game. I forget the name, I think it's Dying Light?. As well as any other interesting titles that gets announced next year, including HEAVY(ier) RAIN hahahaha, the sequel.

Bluemaster773860d ago

Yea I was quite disappointed with Beyond 2 Souls. Admittedly I allowed wayyy to much hype preceding the release. And I Dying light still looks sort of iffy to me. If I'm not mistaken that is the same developer who engineered the Dead Island series? If not the engine looks very similar.

HugoDrax3858d ago

Yeah, I got that iffy feeling from it as well lol. I just thought it was a unique blend of Mirrors Edge + Dead Island. Should be a fun game if the controls are good.

AngelicIceDiamond3860d ago

And yet you were probably one of those who hyped up Cell to to no limit.

Its funny to see you make fun of Cell now.

solidworm3859d ago

No sorry bro but ive been around gaming for too many tears to be still falling for fud like this. Every gen as some secret sauce bullshit that the noobies like yourself lap up and fall for everytime. Dont worry though one day deep in the future youll finally see this hype for the smoke and mirrors it ALWAYS is. Have fun in the mean time though lol.

AngelicIceDiamond3859d ago

"Every gen as some secret sauce bullshit that the noobies like yourself lap up and fall for everytime."

Its clear your embarrassed and mad. All you have to do is scroll up and see my first statement.

"Ehh, sounds cool but we just gotta wait and see."

It all sounds cool but we have to wait and see if MS comes through.

Btw the Cell tech didn't show its prowess until Drakes Uncharted series, The Last Of Us, Heavy Rain, and Beyond 2 Souls. While some Multiplats looking better than Xbox multiplats.

So I guess Cell came through? Sony's Cell processor finally did what they wanted to do several years later.

If you truly and believe cloud is some pipe dream and not real then your sadly mistaken. Especially when the tech already exist and used by millions of people right now.

strigoi8143860d ago

technology they want to implement is nice but the present assets aren't like a good to begt internet connection to execute it properly.

Microsoft Opening Xbox Mobile Game Store in July

The Xbox brand is expanding, as an Xbox mobile game store is opening this coming July where Microsoft will brings its "first-party portfolio."

Jin_Sakai1d 9h ago (Edited 1d 9h ago )

“Bond adds that they will start on the web”

This will go nowhere.

Nice knowing you Xbox. This is what happens when the house never gets cleaned.

MrDead1d 9h ago

The only this MS is expanding is the amount of feculence it sprays on everyone who just want to enjoy gaming and make games.

The best thing MS can do for the gaming industry is leave and never return.

XiNatsuDragnel1d 7h ago

Good luck with this even it might not succeed.

Microsoft once tried to nab LittleBigPlanet from Sony after a few drinks

It turns out that many moons ago, Microsoft once had its eye on the Sony published LittleBigPlanet series.

Microsoft had a good idea but fumbled it again.

Cacabunga21h ago(Edited 21h ago)

Project Spark idea was decent but they quickly gave up ..
LBP was wonderful

ApocalypseShadow1d 15h ago

Microsoft in a nutshell. Always tried to poach Sony employees, games, 3rd party games and devices like the depth camera that was turned into Kinect but was running on PS2 before Xbox 360. Wouldn't be surprised they wanted LBP. Just like they worked behind the scenes pushing the MLB to bring Sony's baseball game to Xbox instead of making their own.
https://www.playstationlife...

They didn't spend years trying to develop their own baseball game. They wanted Sony's game.

They're scum.

Zachmo18219h ago

Microsoft didn't force MLB on Xbox. MLB gave Sony 2 options either go multiplat or risk losing the license.

Rynxie10h ago

And why do you think MLB said that? I believe Ms approached MLB.

ApocalypseShadow9h ago(Edited 9h ago)

Totally ridiculous comment.

The only exclusivity Sony had was to their own creation of The Show. Microsoft could have paid the MLB for the license just like Sony did and made their own baseball game.

Microsoft instead, groomed MLB for years in trying to poach Sony's game and bring it to Xbox. They're worth 3 TRILLION dollars. You think that's not enough money to make their own baseball game? Don't be delusional.

Microsoft spun it like they always do and told the media that they had to trust Sony with their hardware. After they put Sony in that position of not having a choice. Either go multiplatform or stop making one of their successful games. That's a no win scenario.

And what did Microsoft do? They didn't try to sell the game to the Xbox community. They put it on game pass to hurt Sony. Pushing the idea of why buy games that are $70 when you can play them in their cheap service for $10. It was a dirty tactic.

You fell for the Kool aid drink Microsoft served you instead of spitting it out. Hope it tasted good because you were fooled by Phil and the gang.

Xbox executive Sara Bond has told Axios that Microsoft spent a number of years trying to get MLB The Show onto Xbox consoles. And when it finally succeeded in breaking off PlayStation’s long-held exclusivity, the company had to “trust” Sony with pre-release Xbox Series X/S consoles.

Bond revealed that MLB The Show “always came up” in conversations between Microsoft and the Major League Baseball organization. “We always said, ‘We love this game. It would be a huge opportunity to bring it to Xbox.'” she recalled. However, when Microsoft’s efforts materialized, it put the company in an awkward situation where it had to send in pre-release consoles to a rival company.

They were too cheap/inept/lazy to develop their own mlb game, so they port begged for years and bribed the mlb to make the show multiplatform. Like i said many times, xbox brought nothing to the table their 24 years, ZERO.

OtterX22h ago

"However, Healey said Media Molecule wouldn't have felt right doing that, adding it would have been "morally corrupt"."

Major kudos to Media Molecule for being an upright studio with principles.

RNTody22h ago(Edited 22h ago)

Great, more stories like this please. Show the last of the zombies holding the line what we've been saying for years: Microsoft is anti competition, anti industry and has no interest in making games at all.

But hey, at least there's an Xbox Games Showcase to look forward to, right?

Inverno21h ago

Well considering SONY just killed the series, LBP would've been dead by now either way. Though MM probably wouldn't exist by now either, so I'm glad they stayed with SONY, hopefully they don't get shut down any time soon or ever honestly.

Inverno19h ago

They shut down the servers, that's millions of user created levels gone. That and dead are pretty much the same, it's also been years since 3 and they cancelled HUB soooo.

4h ago
fsfsxii6h ago

They shutdown the servers because no one was playing, no one in the community cared about the user created levels so why keep them up? Wtf you guys would never succeed in running a business.

Inverno4h ago

Yea dood no one was playing so they shut off the servers. Cause people with enough common sense can't just Google why they were actually shut of, right?
