Lego City Undercover Review | Quarter to Three

Tom Chick: "The WiiU gimmicks are pretty slick and unfortunately indispensible, which means you probably won’t be playing this on another system. You mostly have a map in your lap as you play, but sometimes you use the gamepad to peer into the city. You can even take screenshots and post them to the Miiverse, where they’re slightly less trapped than they would be if they were only on your WiiU. I should probably resent the WiiU gimmickry, because this is another rare game that’s far too good to be trapped on a Nintendo system."

"I should probably resent the WiiU gimmickry, because this is another rare game that’s far too good to be trapped on a Nintendo system."

I don't know how to feel about that.

RAFFwaff4053d ago

I know how you should feel. That with the above statement the reviewer just ruined an objective, unbiased balanced review and therefore for me at least, nullified his scoring, whether it had of been a 1 or 5. It's unfortunate that zelda is trapped on nintendo consoles. And metroid, etc!!?? Here's my absurd comment for the day: "Breasts are amazing and engage my interest, keeping me occupied for hours. It's just unfortunate that they're trapped on the female form..." #lazygamesjournalism

danitanzo4053d ago

That's an odd comparison...

danitanzo4053d ago

No one thinks the breast analogy was odd?... okay... Didn't say I didn't agree with him...

You got to it quicker than I did, at least. I had to go through some of his utterly insipid reviews before I came to the realization that this guy truly is full of himself, and yet is an utter idiot.

One of the best games of the generation? Give it a 1 or a 2, and COMPLETELY AND INTENTIONALLY misconstrue the game's purpose.

Something that isn't too different from the other dozen in the franchise? 5 out of 5, without a moment's hesitation.

That's Tom Chick in a nutshell.

Honestly, I only came here to vote the site down; I didn't expect him to prove me right.

Tom Chick is known as being one of the worst reviewers on the planet. he constantly deals out 5/5s to average or below average games and 2/5s to universally critically acclaimed games. and im serious when I say that he does it CONSTANTLY, to the point where there is no mistaking his dishonesty.

whether it is for hits or to satisfy his own hipster sensibilities, his reviews are not to be trusted AT ALL. he is an attention hungry, arrogant, dishonest, pretentious moron with a pinball fetish.

im not sure what friends he has a metacritic to get them to include his reviews from his irrelevant little site/blog, but it is insulting to everyone's intelligence.

I was just about to click on what seemed like an informative, unbiased review... Then I read the last sentence of that introductory paragraph - what the hell? I don't care what other wisdoms the review might eschew, the "this is another rare game that’s far too good to be trapped on a Nintendo system" is just about asinine enough to put me off.

I picked the game up, and LOVE it....It looks slick, the gameplay is GREAT, and the gamepad is an amazing tool for this and other games. I like fun games this one is fun and makes my smile whenever I pick up the gamepad. As far as other systems getting it, will Rayman I think is going to be far better on Wii U, but PS360 are getting it now too, so who knows. Another note on Rayman before the whole situation with it being pushed back for Nintendo, I remember reading something about it possibly using the Vita/PS3 combo, back then they said "If" we port it.

LEGO City Undercover dev says the team wanted to avoid making a GTA game, scrapped zombie mechanic

LEGO City Undercover may feature an open world, but it’s not overly comparable to Grand Theft Auto. It turns out that this was intentional.

worst justification EVER! it's a LEGO game...you know, where your imagination is the limit, but they limited the game mechanic for as hard as they can. don't get me wrong, I like the game, Platinumed it on the PS4 BUT the game has so much potential but they also put so many restrictions into the game, I feel all the time I should be able to do something but the devs decided that I can't.

oh and yes...the draw distance SUCKS in this game even on PS4. I can understand if it's ground-up made for the new-gen but this is a Wii U port, the PS4 should have no problem running rounds around this game but the devs just didn't care. tons of collectibles but most of the time, hampered by the terrible draw distance and texture pop-ins. and not to forget constant crashing, glitches, collectibles not registering, and trophy glitch...very frustrating! I had to do a 2nd run just to Platinum this thing due to the story trophy glitch! My advice, if you are gonna play this game co-op, the drop-in drop-out nature of the game will make you lose you chance for story trophies if you're not there from start to finish. the way the story mission is not setup properly to chapters is also annoying as hell.

Either you can't read or you really do think that you should be able to shoot people with guns in a LEGO game since that is the game mechanic that "they limited." Perhaps use your imagination next time and imagine that you are shooting people with guns GTA style in a LEGO game.

LEGO City Undercover is an amazing game and one of the best in both LEGO games and games on the WiiU (except for the load times).

badz149983d ago

There is a ray gun in the game and it can shoot anything to make things explode. I don't remember much but you can shoot people with ray hun too, right? Lego Marvel super hero and batman 2 are way superior than this game

ToddlerBrain983d ago

Lego zombies would have been amazing.

ElementsUnknown983d ago (Edited 983d ago )

Where is the sequel for this game?! So many believe this is the best lego game yet there has been no follow up. Did LCU not sell well? Are the licensed games more profitable? What gives?

LEGO City Undercover devs talk Nintendo's role on the game, company was "very, very involved"

LEGO City Undercover was a pretty big deal when it first appeared on Wii U close to a decade ago. It was planned as one of the system’s first major games, and was even published by Nintendo.

Still my favorite Lego game. Minus the load times. Yikes. Lol

Germaximus991d ago

Game is amazing. Are there any other Lego games like it? The other ones I played were nowhere nearly as good.

badz149990d ago

They purposely put restrictions on your movements for the sake of collectibles. I still think that LEGO Batman 2 and Lego Marvel Superheroes are the best ones
