Persona 4 Golden Review | EuroGamer Sweden

EuroGamer Sweden: "How do you improve something that's already close to perfection? With surgical precision would be the response from Atlus. Persona 4: The Golden adds a few new story lines and characters while still maintaining the charm and balance of the original PlayStation 2 release. Easily one of the finest role-playing games of any hardware generation."

Greatest jrpg of all time. Yes, better than Square's games, past and present. Don't believe me? Than you've never played P4G. I was a HUGE square fan, but Atlus has NEVER made a single dissapointing Jrpg. No, not once.

I agree that ATLUS is on point with their games. And I agree that P4- and thus P4G, naturally- are at the pinnacle.

But I don't know if I can say it's the best ever.

It definitely fights for the number one spot this generation... well, it's the only JRPG I've played in the Vita's generation. If you were to lump it in with the previous handheld and console generations, though, it'd be up against the likes of Valkyria Chronicles and The World Ends with You, in my mind. Games I have yet to finish, like Tales of Graces and Ni no Kuni, could well join that top tier in my estimation.

From the previous gen, .hack, Xenosaga, Grandia 2, and P3:FES come to mind(again, for me) as the cream of the crop. They'd be the games P4G has to best in order to be the greatest.

Further back still, there are the PS1 FFs(particularly VIII), Breath of Fire III, Legend of Dragoon and others to beat.

As much as I love the Persona games, I've found it increasingly hard to determine which ONE game is superior in the genre. Of course, I still have my favorites, but I'm not the type that just lives on nostalgia, as I regularly go back to play all my old games(part of the reason why I can't finish new ones). I try to be as even as possible, and I wonder if P4G isn't getting a little bit of that "new car" deal where it's better because it's new.

I'll never take away from the game, because it IS superb. But I think the genre is WAY too deep for any game to be the best EVER.

Well said. I would definately also put breath of fire 3 up there too. If capcom wont revive it, they should sell it to Atlus (the way square sold the series to capcom). Because Atlus's games tend to deal with topics of religion (and anti), self discover, the role of people vs god, demons (good vs evil vs people stuck in the middle). All of which are found in BoF series.

Great score by EuroGamer Sweden. I love the game but my favourite JRPG ( so far ) is still Persona 3 Portable.

I'll have to make this a mission the next time I blow through Tokyo.

Hopefully soon, given the limited availability.

send me one while you're at it. I mean what's better than Whiskey and Persona? A cigar with the two, and that would be perfection personified.

Remasters And Remakes Make Up 90 Percent Of 2023's Highest-Rated Games

Only one of the games on the top ten is completely original.

90 percent of Metacrtitic's top ten highest-rated games of 2023 so far are remasters and remakes, with Hi-Fi Rush acting as the only wholly original game to make the list so far.

We might only be in March, but it seems like we've already got tons of great games to be talking about, including Dead Space, Resident Evil 4, Hi-Fi Rush, Persona 4 Golden, and Metroid Prime Remastered. There is one commonality between those games, however - most of them are remakes and remasters.

I don't usually buy Switch games until the holidays when they have the elusive sale.

dead_pixels406d ago

Can't blame you there. The bargains don't come too often on the eShop, that's for sure.

I feel like they're getting stingier and stingier, at this point, if the game is on something else, I'd rather buy it there where it's cheaper.

Already own physical versions of Persona 5 Royal and Persona 5 Strikers along with digital versions of Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden on Switch. Will definitely double dip if physical versions of Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden.
