No surprise that Trine 2 is #1. Awesome game, and deserving of the top spot. Well worth the download.

PopRocks3594131d ago

If I may ask, what exactly is Trine 2 about and would I need to play Trine one to get the full experience out of it?

EddieNX 4131d ago

I may not be Neonridr but I'll answer that anyway.

Trine 2 is absoloutly amazing. It's a Puzzle/Physics based sidescrolling Psuedo 2d/3d platformer.

You use 3 characters to solve a huge amount of brain wrecking puzzles that gradually increase in difficulty , all the time worry about defeating enemies of all kinds at any time.

The Graphics and style of the game are second to none. The gameplay is Frustrating but very rewarding.
You can use the wii remote and nunchuck to point at things and draw objects on the screen or use the wiiu gamepad which is easier and really intuitive.

Just draw a line on the gamepad to summon a plank with the wizard or draw a box to summon a box.

You have online and local multiplayer and a patch is bringing voice chat asap.

This game is easily one of the best wiiu launch titles, trumping most of the retail games.

9/10.

You don't have to play the first Trine to understand it. It has a short narrative at the beginning of the game skimming over a brief idea of the first game. Agree totally with Kingofwiiu, absolutely a brilliant game and one that showcases the Wii U's superior visuals. Out of the console versions it is the prettiest and most fluid, not to mention has the extra DLC from the PC version as well as a bonus map exclusive to the Wii U version. Also supports off screen play, so you can play entirely off the gamepad screen if you wish.

The patch will also add Wii U Pro Controller support as well as increased visuals, along with the much needed online voice chat.

The game was on sale, so it was even more of a no-brainer as to why you should get it. (although the sale could be done)

Have a look at Youtube if you want to see the game in action. But it was a day one purchase for me on the Wii U.

Yeah, basically adding to the others about gameplay with a different opinion on playing Trine first. I preferred Trine to Trine 2... maybe because it was more original being the first and all. They are both must plays for platformer/fantasy fans. The environments are beautiful, and the gameplay is great.

You can check out the first on PC or PS3 for like $10. It shouldn't take too long to beat, and going back for all the hidden stuffs is fun for replay. Playing the first ties you into the lore of the series better, and more attachment to the characters. You could also just watch the gameplay vids on youtube, but I highly recommend playing both. Two of my favorite downloadable titles.

I actually were disappointed with Trine 2. It was to flat for me and WAY to easy. Checkpoint every 20 meter.

guitarded774131d ago

I wasn't disappointed, but I did feel the first Trine was better/fresher than Trine 2. The environments is Trine 2 are beautifully detailed though. NOTE: I didn't disagree with you, just adding my 2 cents.

Neonridr4131d ago

too flat? it was a sidescroller, what did you expect? And the environments were absolutely beautiful, which did not make them look flat in any sense of the word.

Anybody know the next time the Wii U e-shop will be updated with new titles?

shackdaddy4131d ago

I'm happy to see that the top 5 has 4 indie games.

I think it's better to leave games like AC: Amiibo Festival and Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash forgotten on the Wii U. Best case, they are mediocre games; worse case, they are very bad. It was a dark time for the Wii U, and the first only exists to sell Amiibo cards, whereas the second was put together in a couple of months with a shoestring budget, and it shows.

The rest of the list does have some really cool games, though. I would love to see a remake of Star Fox Zero with decent controls, and Xenoblade X doesn't require that much modification to work.

How would XCX work without dual screens functionality?

Cacabunga5d ago

Same as Paper Mario color splash. One of the best wiiu games and getting even better with dual screen. Same reason why i prefer Splatoon 1

This article leaves out Nintendo's most controversial game to date devils Third.
I personally found the cover system really fun in that one compared to at the time most fps games completely lacking one.

Stevonidas5d ago

Devil's Third is HIGHLY underrated.

repsahj5d ago

They should remake Starfox to the switch 2. Very beautiful game during gamecube days.

Kirby is always ignored or forgotten by people, so good to see it mentioned here.
Play Kirby Canvas Curse on DS, and then play Rainbow Curse on Wii U, they're really fun and unique 'platformers' without any actual jumping.
