Wii U, PS4 and 720: Power Matters

Well, graphics were important for Nintendo in the NES, SNES, N64 and Gamecube days. They just changed perspective with the Wii, and regarding the Wii U it's still too soon to judge properly.

But yeah, Nintendo actually cared a lot about graphics back in the day. :P

I think it's more that the consumer cared a lot about them so they had to cater to them. I mean back then they actually had to care about core gamers because we were the only gamers that existed.

And despite what anyone says, graphics do matter. They just aren't the end all be all when judging a games quality.

The entire graphics vs gameplay debate has turned into something that it never was.

The whole debate started because people were judging the quality of the game based on graphics alone.

Basically, people were saying a game cannot be good unless it is in HD.

The debates as of late have turned into the graphics people thinking the gameplay people don't want good graphics at all, and vise versa for the gameplay people.

Nobody is saying power does not matter at all, but when IGN marks down Xenoblade Chronicles because it would have looked better on other consoles, or when G4 says that Skyward Sword looks underwhelming after showing gameplay of Uncharted 3 because and i quote "those graphics" then you lose a lot of credibility, and your word on the matter of video games doesn't mean anything anymore.

It's actions like the ones of IGN and G4 that completely warped the debate and turned it into a group of people not wanting the other.

I find it funny that developers fin the Wii u to be a dissapointment , lets make clear that nintendo asked them what hardware did they wanted in the console! And yes the next gen systems are going to be powerful but not that powerful i will not pay 600 dollars for an xbox or ps4

what's wrong if the next generation had that price ? .. if the power worth that money then why not ?.. it's not like you are gonna buy more then one console , what we should complain about are the price of the games and the limiting stuff not the price of a powerful console ..

Have yet to see and "Next Gen" games, especially from the Wii U though its suppose to be a Next Gen system - so shut your pie-holes about this power crap.

This gen for the talk about power has been more about glitches and bugs and I only expect more from the next.

I find the WiiU a disappointment. Graphics arent even on par with the 360 or PS3! Whats the point of another Wii console? Graphics are very important, anyone that says otherwise is a liar!

I think that some of the greatest games that have ever graced consoles were on the SNES. So.... clearly mega power doesn't matter too much for making amazing games. Though the SNES was a powerhouse of its' time.

When people always talk about graphics vs. gameplay I always point them to a little gem called Earthbound for SNES.

The game had the worse graphics for a SNES game but that game was fun as all hell and one of the best RPG's for the SNES.

I do like some pretty graphics but give me some quality gameplay and excellent design everytime.

i cant wait for the "next gen" graphics cause it looks a little bit better.and the average gamer wont even notice.my buddy was so excited to show us a next gen looking game on his pc and most of my friends thought it was a 360 game.

because the leap will not be like ps2 ps3.

More power is great, but if the majority of devs won't utilize it, what's the point?

Well for starters the devs that are going to use it obviously and the features of the system that will benefit or exist and evolve only because of that extra juice.

Why would devs not strive to hit the roof, use all the power and then squese out whatever they can anywys? They always do, don't they?

The fact that the PS3 can run games at 60fps/1080p, coupled with the fact that few games are developed at 60fps/1080p, proves my point.

In a perfect world, devs would strive to hit the roof. In the world we live in that's seldom the case. The only roof most devs care about are in regards to the almighty dollar.

Are Power important, well yes but not so much because you will be playing same over and over again but with better power and that what I think PC gaming is for? I think not that defects the point in games. Gaming is designed to take you away from reality not put you into it.

Some developer's are talking out of their butt more than Ace Ventura.

Personally a dev that makes one of the most demanding PC games out there and hasn't done anything ON the Wii U makes statements, most likely based off of hearsay, then no, I think that dev is full of it.

Just because a President, or CEO, or Principal, or Police Officer....or GAME dev says something, doesn't mean in any way that it is so.

So when I hear a bunch of devs who haven't done one line of code on the Wii U talk crap on it, while every dev that HAS worked on love it....well it's not telling me anything definitive about it's power, but I know which dev to believe more as long as the absence of real specs and benchmarks is the issue.

..and there IS a major absence of real stats about the Wii U. Just rudimentary tear down and guesses based off one border of a puzzle. We don't have anything to get a complete picture yet of it. It won't be a beast, but none of them will be. It'll definitely be lesser than the 720/PS4, but that's not saying much.

Besides millions of people have PC's already more powerful than any of the 'next gen' consoles. Including me, not that it matters.

You can't put 700-1500 watts of 1000-3000 dollar parts into a small box sucking up 250 watts or so and costs only $400-500 AND have a bunch of add-ons like Kinect 2 and hand manipulator or similar and expect it to be a reality.

I want a Porsche that gets 100 miles per gallon, goes 0-60 in 2.5 seconds, be reliable, and costs one thousand dollars new. Ain't going to happen.

I can only see Nintendo benefiting from the WII U's configuration, but really who would buy a Nintendo console for 3rd party games, like the PS3 you buy it for the exclusives and own an 360 for 3rd party games and a PC so you can troll console fanboys.
