Im guessing they will not be games that are large scale like AAA titles

StrongMan4207d ago

Probably downloadable Kinect games.

Ben_Grimm4207d ago

Just because they won't be retail doesn't mean they won't be AAA. And there's nothing stopping large scale games via download only.

I mean just take a look at the many games on Steam and this should tell you that large scale AAA games are possible non-retail.

Still amazes me that phil harrison was one of the reasons ps3 and psp suffered so much, and then ms hires him...lol! Things are looking up for ms.

Abash4207d ago

@ AAACE5

He was actually the one who supported LittleBigPlanet and steered Media Molecule in the right direction with it. Sadly that was like in 2006/2007, the industry has changed and so has Phil Harrison's gaming philosophies. I don't see him doing anything as bold as his push for software in his PlayStation days

nukeitall4206d ago

@AAACE5:

Ironically, it was Phil Harrison that made PS3 do as well as it did. It was Sony's japanese arm *AND* Ken Kutaragi that screwed up the PS3 so badly.

@Abash:

"Im guessing they will not be games that are large scale like AAA titles "

Nope. That is not what MS is saying. They are saying, the games released will not be a retail sold game.

It sounds like a free to play game that certainly sounds like a AAA game due to the hundreds of employees they are expanding the studio with.

iNathan4207d ago

Not bad. Still Microsoft wth are you doing so much money :x

sashimi4207d ago

pouring it all into kinect of course.

doctorstrange4207d ago

Interesting. Hopefully they make games that are still fun, and aren't 'too casual'

Jinkies4207d ago

Judging by what they've done since Kinect was released...I highly doubt it

dubt724207d ago (Edited 4207d ago )

Still weird seeing him represent MS. It's like when Deion came over to the Cowboys from the 49ers. It took some time to fully welcome him to the team.
Loved the "magical" observation about Xbox Live tho, lol.

Luke_fon_Fabre4207d ago

But then if you run out of room on the console... ? These systems better come with 2 TB hard drives or something

SonyStyled4207d ago (Edited 4207d ago )

thats why i never understood why ms released a 4gb 360. unless it was a business strategy to sell more larger hard drives after the console purchase. ms being ms i guess, finding ways to nickel and dime us. id do it too if it was going to make me millions. but really, most retail downloadable games are over 4gb. it took me 5 years to max my 60gb hdd. id max out 4 gigs pretty quickly as im sure most of us would. i think the problem though has been realized by the console manufacturers as most of the consoles now come with a large hdd

Why Indie Games Fail To Keep Their Place In The Spotlight

A look into the sad trajectory of indie games from high successful releases to complete irrelevancy in just a few weeks or months.

shaenoide2d ago

Easy not enough developpers to add content to the game (palworld)

Profchaos2d ago

That's the thing with gaming there's always new experiences to have why spend months or years playing a single game when there's a new experience right around the corner.

Indie or AAA if your building your game expecting long term player counts you'll probably be disappointed as gamers often enjoy something for a few weeks and move on only to return if it's truely a classic.

Out of all the generations I've experienced there's games from 30 plus years ago I still dust off and play like super Mario bros, earthbound, vice city and san Andreas being games I treasure and revisit every few years but I'm not going back to play a game designed to keep me engaged for months on end because it's also designed to milk my wallet in most cases.

Build a great game that people love make it playable offline and ask does it matter if the concurrent player count is under 100 a year post launch more often that not it doesn't

P_Bomb2d ago

The price of entry is too high to take chances like I used to. Was looking at V Rising and that ranges from $50-$130 CAD. That’s a lot for an indie imo. By the time it goes on sale, the player count might be dwindling. But that’s the trade-off, I guess.

Si-Fly1d 23h ago

I’m glad my preference is single player experiences, Indie devs got me covered 👊🏻

Flewid6381d 22h ago

Indie devs dont make multiplayer games?

Moving In My 30s Made Me Nostalgic For Physical Games

I lost my drive for collecting physical games due to many discs lacking the whole complete game. Instead, of collecting games I started collected figurines.

Popsicle2d ago

I am a collector have a room dedicated with a couple original arcade cabinets, physical game library, old and new consoles and controllers backlit with LED lighting. It’s very cool to have but with emulation being so strong and prevalent, I sometimes feel foolish because the hobby is expensive and like another said, the full game is not always on the disc. Could probably spend more wisely but I enjoy it.

shinoff21832d ago

Most games are usually on disc still. Of course you got you publishers that are hit and miss, Activision, ubisoft, ea, Microsoft, where the rest of the game needs downloaded.
