Dear Gamer Gurls, GTFO

Jessica Winkler writes:

"I have been playing video games since I was old enough to hold a controller. There are few (and I mean VERY few) things in the gaming community that disgust me more than “Gamer Gurls”. Before you come at me with your torches and pitchforks, let me explain to you the difference between a female gamer and a “gamer gurl”. Since I already know some of you are putting on your troll hats as we speak, I’m going to lay this out as simply as I can."

I don't think that picture is accurate... The guy should be fat, have zits, and a bag of chips next to him... Also, empty cans of soda on the desk are a bonus lol.

Snookies124372d ago

Whaa, the one on the bottom looks like a guy. D:

RIPSKATEDESTROY4372d ago

it says "this is a gamer girl"

WeskerChildReborned4372d ago

Guy? Also how does being a gamer make us look fat or have zits? lol i think that's just stereotyping.

TheModernKamikaze4371d ago

You're stereotyping a guy. This is a girl.

I agree with this article. A gamer is a gamer, I treat them all the same (Which generally is like crap) I have played games with males and females, and its still the same game, I am not so desperate that I want to try to sweet talk some random girl in a random online game.

Really, it's kind of sad to see it happen, and I have cussed out people for doing that... it detracts from the game, and that's not why we are playing the game. We play it for fun not to find girls, you want that? Go outside or something!

Though I agree that girls who go online looking for attention piss me off more then the idiots fawning over her.

Nice article, good read.

Shadowstar4372d ago

Yeah. I could have done without calling them sluts. Couldn't we go with poseur or idiot or something a little less "omg! girls wanting sex is teh bads!" (which is what slut means).

Dear girls who feel the need to insult other girls as sluts, GTFO. We don't need you any more than we need the weirdos posing with game controllers.

Lord_Sloth4372d ago

Wanting sex isn't bad, putting yourself on display like a sex object simply to grab at attention then bitching about people treating you like 1 is.

These girls are seriously sluts. They're looking for attention by debasing themselves.

Shadowstar4372d ago

They can look for attention however they want. Slut shaming is still NOT ok. If they want sex, what's the problem? Some women do, some women don't.

Me? I don't, and I don't want men to treat me like a sex object. But that doesn't make me a better person or a better gamer than a woman who wants that stuff.

JAMurida4372d ago

"Wanting sex isn't bad, putting yourself on display like a sex object simply to grab at attention *******then bitching about people treating you like 1 is.*********"

Sadly, some women have YET to understand this.

ShaunCameron4371d ago

@ JAMurida

Indeed. They been brainwashed for decades into thinking freedom and rights comes with no strings attached. Well this is the result of society being too accomodating to fringe groups and malcontents.

Lord_Sloth4372d ago

Slut is describing the way they're acting. Freedom of speech. If they wanna call some1 acting like a slut a slut, what's the problem? There isn't 1 and I'm not arguing about it. They act like sluts, they're gonna get treated like a slut. End of story.

I treat men the same way too so don't try a double standard routine.

jeeves864372d ago

Okay. Let's not call em sluts then.

Let's just call them slutty.

Come on now. If you're going to act slutty, be prepared to be called a slut. Women and girls who do that should know better.

Kyosuke_Sanada4372d ago

Great read. A gamer girl is exactly what it should be a gamer that happens to be a girl nothing more or less.......

A Matter Of Trust: What The Game Industry Should Do To Win Gamers Back

Skewed and Reviewed have written an Opinion Piece covering issues in the gaming industry, how current issues were issues years ago, and what can be done to help restore consumer trust.

anast20h ago

Nothing. It's up to the gamers to stop consuming content from companies that they don't agree with.

Garethvk6h ago

How do you know if you agree with it or not unless you play it? Which without conventions forces gamers to rely on trailers. Perhaps Demos should be made more frequently. But companies need to do better as well.

anast6h ago

Wait until release. Watch Gameplay. Exercise patience.

Garethvk6h ago

But is that not what they have now? Tons of gameplay or are you talking about watching actual gamers play it versus the trailers and streams? The big issue is that some companies pay streamers and influencers and they create content but for me; that is hardly a fair, unbiased, and factual look at a game.

1nsomniac10h ago

Get rid of the suits in the industry and job done!!

Garethvk6h ago

They usually are attached to the money sadly. It would be nice to have gamers in charge but you have so much money invested that business people are needed. Hence the issue; you need people who know business but are also gamers who know have an eye to the community. It sounds simple in theory that if you give gamers quality games that they want to play; money will be made. But that is not always so.
