I doubt this will go anywhere, Japanese developers are largely going to target platforms popular in their home country and the west, not just the west. If Xbox owners really cared about Japanese games they wouldn't own an Xbox.

I disagree, they establish a floor and provide an install base of more than 100m capable of playing the games. Look at the most popular titles on PC, they're games you can run on integrated graphics, not technical showcases like Red Dead Redemption 2. I say this as a 1080Ti owner that buys most multiplatform games on PC. Without consoles, many AAA games wouldn't exist.

I skipped 7 because I had no interest in a first person RE and don't own PSVR.

As a day 1 Switch owner I recall there being at least one update for the Pro controller in the time I've owned the system. Controller updates are uncommon on the Switch though, just as they are on the Xbox One.

If / when Red Dead Redemption 2 releases on PC it will probably be a Social Club exclusive.

Shame about it being 30fps even on the Xbox One X.

Same, I have a bunch of games still pre-ordered from when the discount was in effect.

I paid $700 for my 1080Ti when it launched in 2017, why would I pay $1200 for a new card a year and a half later that is only a little bit faster and doesn't even increase the amount of VRAM I get? I don't care about BFV and I don't care about unplayable tech demos and benchmarks. Now that 7nm is here expect Nvidia to rush out a Turing refresh before the end of 2019.

While I agree Valve should reduce their cut, I am not excited about all the different launchers fragmenting the achievements, friends lists, invites, and all the other features that Steam brought to us long before Epic even decide to have a game store. I am also not keen on installing a launcher ultimately owned by Tencent.

I am not interested in running a Chinese-owned client on my PC to play games, pass.

Gotta give MS credit for continuing to add stuff like this to the Xbox One S and X, Dolby Vision, FreeSync, and now this, very cool. Hopefully Sony takes note and starts adding similar features to the PS4 Pro.

Buying a new console this late, especially one this expensive, seems ill advised

This, playing it on the max settings on my pc without any reconstruction and a resolution higher than PS4 Pro or Xbox One X.

2333d ago 3 agree1 disagreeView comment

Agreed, I think the use of sub-native resolutions isn't a great sin at 4K given the pixel density is so high on monitors anyway.

It's not really 4K60 if you're using DLSS to achieve it.

I wonder whether Xbox will support cross play next gen if they once again become the console leader.

Love the disagrees from people that don't know how FreeSync works. The game will have to run at 48fps or higher for adaptive refresh rate support to work on all Samsung 4K TVs. If you drop below 48Hz the tv will go back to 60Hz and you'll experience all the regular pitfalls of v-sync or Ubisoft will have to introduce tearing.

2333d ago 0 agree2 disagreeView comment

You are missing my point or are being deliberately obtuse. The first game only targets 30fps on all consoles so if they're doing a variable framerate with a similar target on the sequel FreeSync will not work very well, as most monitors don't work before 30Hz while many don't even work below 40. In fact, all of Samsung's 2018 4K TVs with FreeSync have a minimum supported refresh rate of 48Hz so again I seriously question how well this is going to work for most FreeSync owners ...

2333d ago 0 agree4 disagreeView comment

That's not how FreeSync and G-Sync work. The reason variable framerates normally suck has to do with the way vertical sync operates, if the game fails to hit its 16.67ms frame time the game will wait until 33.33ms to display the frame, so that the game's refresh fits within the displays refresh rate, meaning the framerate drops to 1/2, aka 30fps. Triple buffering sort of solves this but then results in judder while adding another frame of latency, as the refresh rate does not match th...

I think you need to research how FreeSync works, if the game doesn't target a framerate higher than 30fps there's no benefit to FreeSync on most displays. If it's targeting 30fps on console like the first game, I can't see this being very useful as I doubt they will take a step backwards graphically from the original game. I actually own an adaptive refresh rate 4K display and the prospect of playing at something like 40fps is not appealing.
