Nice to see some positivity for the game. I find it interesting that UK reviewers hated it, but the rest of Europe really liked it.
@5 Doublefine's a very small development team. They just happened to get a large publisher for Brutal Legend. They're one of the few that has been lucky enough to do so thanks to have Tim Schafer (Grim Fandango) at the helm.
@4 - if you look at the specs for those horror games like Asylum, they're actually pretty low. Your computer can probably play them.
Awesome article. Nice to see PC games getting love here.
Great choices as always. Sakura Wars V finally got its due from a Western site. A few surprise winners too.
No, he points out (and rather correctly) that the Move controller and the Eye have some connectivity issues the faster a body moves and ESPECIALLY with a series of rapid repetitious actions - an issue the Wiimote doesn't have. Because exercising is a series of rapid actions being repeating, the Wiimote does perform better than Move under these conditions.
And the 300K number is accurate for Move sales in the US. Even Sony has said that Move was a "modest" suc...
Stuntman: Yep. It was never meant to be a CV. mercurysteam makes crap games but god forbid anyone wants to admit this even though very few people gave positive comments to their previous games. But once you make a game with a well known franchise's name, very few reviewers or gamers want to actually admit the game isn't very good.
Yeah, I hated it. Honestly the ONLY reason people are giving this game a high score is because of the "Castlevania" name. People are purposely blinding themselves to how bad this is because god forbid a CV game SUCK (no pun intended).
Actually, it says Ghost of Sparta throughout the article. I think you were thinking of the Mini "Hero of Sparta."
Are you using Google Chrome? There's a bug in Google Chrome that redirects certain sites (Media Temple server sites to be exact) exactly like how you are describing.
Because he doesn't hate it. It's a week by week basis. Look at the previous week. He though Sony had a great set of offerings and this week was pretty awful.
It's called reviewing a product and being a journalist dude.
Yep. It's a stinker alright.
This was a lot of fun. Especially nice to see some forgotten classics show up here.
I'm a big fan of both of the V:TM games and Dark Wizard. I although though the honorable mention thing was cute.
I do love Baseball Stars. I wonder why SNK stopped doing this series.
Well, considering the guy who wrote this article is both a Pokemon employee and a guy who dominated the PvP scene in both the Kanto and Johto generations, I'm far more likely to trust his advice than anyone else's.
Lewis - No offense, but after searching on here for your review, I'm going to trust THIS writer as her actually discusses the metaphor of a game, links to the source material and gives a really in-depth review. Your review lacks any of the commentary on the glitches or control issues save for a brief sentence or two and then you waive them off at the end. The fact you give a game an 8/10 that even you admit has a lot of "overt flaws" either means you give our scores arbitraily or yo...
Go Diehard GameFAN.
It's nice to see Valkyria Chronicles, Endless Ocean, The Lost Crown, and Metal Slug 7 get the respect they deserver. I've long since stopped trust sites like IGN, 1UP, and Gamespy simply because of the openly biased attitude they have towards games before they even review them. Game Informer's even worse after their confession that they only review games they think will be good instead of stepping outside the box and trying new things.
I definitely don't agree with this list, but then all the games I liked this year for the PSP aren't on there. :-) Where's Fading Shadows, Dungeon Maker II, R-Type Command, Harvey Birdman and more. I guess my tastes are just totally out of synch with this site, but that's neither right nor wrong - it simply is.
I don't agree with the order, but it's nice to see Valkyria Chronicles get some respect. I have a problem with Persona 3 and The Witcher being on there, because they're slight remakes of games that came out in 2007. I enjoyed both LAST year, but to count the extra content as deserving of best in 2008 doesn't feel right to me, especially when there were a lot of quality other RPG's like Pokemon Ranger 2, Disgaea 3, Baroque and more.
Still, this was nicely written and there wasn'...
The ONLY good and in-depth review of the game so far.
