You mean RENTING your games. That is all it is.
What is stopping you from buying the physical is they don't offer it that way anymore. That is their goal, this is a step in that direction, a rental only model.
"Wait...did MS say they won't continue making physical copies to own? "
Not yet but someday...
Tank, it is only easier to switch if: they still have the game on their servers, you have a fast data cap free internet connection. Otherwise it sucks.
It is the slippery slope, the beginning of the end of physical media.
Actually the option to "buy" is still not ownership as it is digital. As soon as they pull the game you can't get to it anymore if you want it (console/HDD failure etc).
PSnow is not the same. The quality sucks so bad it is no replacement for the real game.
All of this is online only DRM, yes it is an option, now. When they start releasing stuff exclusively on the service it will no longer be an option, just like not having the console co...
Netflix did basically kill physical media for movies though. Killing TV is a dumb analogy. The problem is streaming quality is much worse than a physical disc and not everyone has a connection capable of streaming.
Buy a physical copy yes, while you can. They are trying like hell to get rid of that and this is a step towards a rental only model.
Yes it is an option now but it may be made into a requirement. You didn't need an internet connection either but now you do.
The service won't be a requirement, now. That is what they are working to though, this is the first step. You never used to need the internet to play games either but now it is required for day one patches and OS updates.
ShottyatLaw It didn't destroy the movie business but it did decimate the physical movie disc business. That is what this will do to physical game releases.
It is probably due to the end of net neutrality. The providers probably told EA "you like providing your service huh, well you betta cough up more dough or your servers will be sleepin' wit da fishes'
I prefer the types of games on Playstation as a SP gamer but I have to agree this time. Support for the Pro was very weak. Where are all of the upgraded graphical features? A few games get a slight bump in resolution and that was it, big deal. I would have expected more upgraded frame rate and effects modes (at 1080p at least) as an option instead of resolution. I don't care about a slightly crisper edge here and there if the game is choppy or has soupy textures.
That is because the Pro was a half measure. No UHD blu ray, minor upgrade to CPU speed, not many games to take advantage of the extra power other than a few with a slight resolution bump. It feels unsupported and under utilized to me.
Not everyone likes the online only DRM of PC or the ergonomics of PC. Consoles are still the only place you can buy physical media and play offline.
People whine about a $500 console then spend double that for a GPU card on the PC. PC gamers must all be pirates and get games for free because you never hear them bitching about hardware cost.
No, the original xbone was crap and the S no better. If you are going to go xbox get the X. I got the new Wolfenstein on the X and tried it unpatched first to see what xbone would get. My lord it was horrid. Low res cutscenes, low res game play, it looked like it was running at 720p with left over textures from an xbox 360. It was a blurry mess. I also have a PS4 Pro and it was decent for being out a year ago and $100 cheaper. I prefer SP games and therefore Playstation but there is no...
Yeah I know 3 seems a bit high. ..
I am not worried at all as my Xbox one x is now sitting next to my PS4 pro.
I prefer the types of games on Playstation as I play single player games and Xbox is weak in that area. For multiplatform games I buy on the 1X because they look and run a bit better. My PS4 pro for exclusive SP games, my X for multiplatform.
Honestly if you can afford both it is worth it.
Jesus god, that will literally take a week to download for me. That is insane.
Gangsta it is the slippery slope. First it is an option. Then it is an option plus a few games that can't be purchased but only rented on this service. Then it is a few more, then it is a big title like Halo or Gears, then it is mandatory and the only way games can be played. It was the same with internet connections on consoles. First it was an option for online gamers, then it was used to fix a few small glitches, then it was used for a bit of DLC, then a few games needed a small d...
