Article: "The second, perhaps more realistic reason for my decision to go for the Xbox One over the PS4 was the simple fact that I am not a gamer."

That says a lot, no need to read further..

Except that the xbone will give you even worse versions of Dragon Age and W3 with lower resolution etc.

"In a side-by-side comparison, I don’t believe the average consumer can tell the difference between 720p and 1080p"

The average consumer must have bad eyes and/or a crap TV (or they are making an excuse for why their game will be low-res). There is a big difference. With 720p there is much more jagginess going on and distant objects/details blur out and become unrecognizable blobs.

It gets worse and it is something you hardly hear mentioned. It is...

I wonder why they couldn't have just made the die a bit bigger in the Bone? I guess cost as then you would get less yield per wafer, plus more defective chips maybe? It makes you wonder, if they didn't insist on that Kinect maybe that extra $100 could have gone into a bigger/better SoC.

"the developers aren't even targeting your PC"

And the big reason is that they have no idea what "your PC" is. It can be infinite combinations of CPU, GPU, RAM etc. Developers CAN target all of our PS4s though as they all have the same hardware. That is why when someone says "the PS4 is just a mid range PC", it is false. They can't go to the metal on a PC, they can on a console. They just brute force it on the PC by throwing lots of ...

@KNWS

Well no, but nice try though. Seems logical 2 memories preferred, X1 has two. But there is one *small* problem with it on xbone, the eSRAM memory is just too small to do that much, it is only 32 mb, that is like half of the RAM in a 3DS. Sure you could load in things, do the processing there the problem is that you need to be shifting data in and out of that small bit of fast RAM. With all of those read and write cycles you lose the advantage of it.
Now if i...

"Frikin libs". It is easy to throw around labels, but believe me the majority of "libs" are nothing like the cartoon characture they tell you they are on Faux news and right-wing radio.

If you look at policy you will find ALLOT of common ground between REAL libs and conservatives. There are more things both sides agree on than you are lead to believe.

What the political elite of both parties fear the most are libs and cons comming togeth...

Not really. 720p upscaled to a 1080p TV is ugly. Not just because of the missing pixels which is bad enough but also because it doesn't match the native resolution on the TV (720p on a 720p native TV is actually not that bad). When you upscale there is a filter put over the image to try to smooth out the pixellated nature of the scaled pixels. This filter adds a layer of blurr over the screen, making things look fuzzy. Distant objects/details become unrecognizable blurry blobs.

Thank the conservative Roberts Supreme Court for that. With rulings (See citizen's united, and McCutcheon) done in the last few years it has basically handed over the government to corporations. It basically allows for unlimited secret bribes and electoral meddling by the super-rich and corporations to any government official they choose. It should come as no surprise that they always side with big business over the "rights" of regular less monied citizens. The combining of b...

Libertarian. LOL that is a good one. He is just another far-right Republican. Bill O'Reilly also says he is "independant" but he always votes Republican, he is a Republican. That is fine everyone has a right to vote the way they want but most of these guys are mostly full of it and like Limbaugh, are in it only for the money.

The problem there is that patches require you to go online with the console to get them and they can't be backed up. So if you delete a game to free up space on the HDD, then want to replay a few years later the patch may be offline. Even if you have the physical disc, you are now stuck with a broken game. I almost think they do this purposly so that the game has a built-in expiration date set by them (digital only titles are gone completely). This is the downside of consoles today tha...

How so? That means if they write assembler routeens (machine code) straight to the metal the results would be amazing. Right now most stuff is made with programmers programming a program (API). Coders write to the API, the API hands that off to the hardware. If ND goes to the metal they can "eliminate the middle man". Coders usually don't go to the metal especially in the case of a PC, you don't know what the metal is, all configs/combinations of "metal" are di...

I have seen this E3 movie before. It goes like this: Spectacular looking "game" is shown with 5 minutes of CGI "target renders", then 30 seconds of in-game footage running on NASA super-PCs. They give a loose date of "next year" It then gets delayed another year and comes out all graphically downgraded and buggy with GBs of day one patches, leaving me to say "WTF"? THIS is the same game? The PS4 has PC standard CPUs and GPU yes. The difference though is that it isn't just a medium grade PC like many would think based on what is in it. Medium PCs don't have their GPU and CPU on a single die with access to a unified pool of GDDR 5 memory. There are things that can be done such as CPUs can calculate particles etc then the GPU can read results directly out of the RAM with no shuffling around. There are things like this that can be utilized ...

Uber PC only you mean. Most PCs out there aren't the latest and greatest either. Midrange PCs held this back as much as consoles did. They wanted it to run for everyone, so they went lowest common denominator instead of optimising for each. This could have looked better on PS4 even if they optimised it more.
