You should have done more research before posting this story. It's been confirmed that you can play from the HDD for quite a while now.
Your games were gutted and DLC was provided. That's the scheme. Achievements became the distraction. And it totally worked. Extra Achievements are now marketed right along with new DLC packs.
People love them, unlocks be damned. And I don't consider that a good thing. I like Achievements just fine, but I wouldn't miss them if they all disappeared.
Read the article. It talks a lot about DLC and it's part in the loss of cheat codes and unlocks.
Cheat codes go way beyond actually "cheating." They were used to unlock all sorts of things you couldn't get by completing the main game. Goldeneye and Rogue Squadron immediately spring to mind among countless others.
I agree with you on multiplayer. That's one of the worst parts to come out the DLC era.
It's not even necessary, really. EA can save a bundle by paying off game journalists with free "prizes." There's definitely enough of them out there willing to give a game a 9 for some cool freebies.
I find it interesting that EA conducts mock reviews of their own games. They hire a writer to pretty much pretend that their game is awesome and then act surprised when the rest of the world doesn't agree.
The MPAA is a far bigger joke than the ESRB. I wouldn't want them anywhere near games.
This article was poorly thought out/written.
Well given all of the features of the Gamepad and Miiverse, it's not like they skimped on R&D for the gaming portion of the system.
I've held it too. I went to the Wii U Experience in LA last month (my impressions were posted here). I love the Gamepad and the Pro controller but that is definitely an inconvenience.
I did not like having the Wiimote sitting on my lap while using the Classic Controller. Adding bigger controllers and headphone cords into the mix only makes the problem worse. I'd imagine most people using a Pro Controller wouldn't even bother to go through the hassle.
"nobody saw coming" means it wasn't expected from Nintendo.
And I think it will be a huge selling point for a lot of casuals, actually.
I remember Iwata or Miyamoto saying a while back that because the Wii U Gamepad has both a microphone and speakers, there was no need for a headset. Now they are going in the complete opposite direction.
If it supports any headset with a mic, it's fine. But the lack of a headphone jack on the Pro Controller is grating. Having the Gamepad sit next to you is completely counter-intuitive to the whole point of using the Pro Controller. A wireless headset should solve this pro...
Well, NONE of these things should really have gotten people so crazy, really. But reliving the meltdowns is entertaining at least.
Sounds like your memory is foggy. Or you were too young to remember most of the list.
Yeah, they're real. Ubisoft likes to tinker with screens though. I wouldn't be surprised if these shots are cleaner than the final product.
Locking on-disc content is especially egregious, in my opinion. It's one of the worst practices to come out of this gen.
It really does feel like pandering. It almost seems like damage control. The crowd Fable attracts is not the crowd this game was made for. Despite what the video says.
I imagine a lot of console games will be made to be scaled to tablets and even phones. I'm not looking forward to that future.
The more cinematic games are the most guilty of this, I think. Developers have a difficult time balancing freedom and challenge while creating scripted set pieces.
There was a lot of crap, yeah. But there were also a lot of good developers that were killed by one failure. Haze threw Free Radical under the bus and Lair pretty much killed Factor 5. Both of those developers had a history of quality games behind them. It just took one flop to force them to close shop.
