He's an incredibly enthusiastic man that is more than just a suit at Sony - he's in touch with the community and has his finger firmly on the industry's pulse. Call it 'teasing', call it what you like - he's good at his job and he's excitable. More power to him.
In the body text, he's specifically referring to Japanese gamers, though he mentions the trend is also becoming apparent worldwide.
Just as a titbit - later on in the interview he says "I want MGS:GZ to prove there's still a market for high-end Japanese games" or words to that effect. He knows his audience, and makes games *in reply* to trends, not *in spite* of them.
Good point - maybe this is Kojima's subtle way of having a Shia LaBeuf moment and claiming the whole mobile/social revolution was his doing.
Is there evidence for such a claim?
Link pls - I'm intrigued by this.
Good post - the first comment on the article itself makes some good points (but could do with some more explanation)
I don't think it hit upon the kind of gothic tragedy the other games do, though. Look at Rinoa and Squall - the scene where he forsakes everything he has and is and carries her on his back across the Fisherman's Horizon bridge is incredibly poignant. The maelstrom of dynamics between Tifa, Aeries and Cloud has almost incestuous implications etc - there are heavy motivations behind those characters, I think. Tidus and Yuna; he just wants to protect her, and she wants protecting. It'...
I think Kitase saying "Final Fantasy X broadened my outlook on life" is my favourite thing about this interview.
Is it bad I'm more excited about FFX/X-2 HD Remaster than I am about any upcoming next-gen titles?
(Spoiler: No, it isn't).
It's these kind of 'ground-up' remakes that make all the shoddy HD collection ports bearable.
Hey, if that means full voice acting and dedicated translation work, then that's more than worth it.
In Europe, we have to wait until English, German, Spanish and French localisations are done too. Hell, I'm still holding out for Shin Megami Tensei IV any time soon...
Come on, give Europe some love too - bad enough we have to wait 800 years for localisation.
Here's the deal, Atlus - either give us a similar sale, or announce a release date for SMT:IV over here? Deal? Deal.
Can you imagine how hilarious a Tim Schafer Mortal Kombat game would be?
It'll still be action-RPG, sure, but if you've played Lightning Returns, that's done given the genre a more hardcore RPG edge then other things in the same vein I've seen so far.
Honestly, I wouldn't write XV off yet - once more information comes out, I'm sure it'll become clear the game is keen to stay relevant to typical FF tropes, but whilst trying to do something new on a new system. Just look at what X did - completely revalidated the FF form...
From everything I've seen so far, I think this is going to be the game that gets the series back on track. It's been waning since XII, with too much focus on becoming an action-RPG.
Lightning Returns was a brave experiment that could only be tried out in a side-series like XIII. Appalling overall, but the game/battle mechanics were innovative and boundary-pushing. Is Square applies lessons learned to XV, it'll be a masterpiece.
Incredibly well put.
Personal highlight of this piece - "We’re making The Witcher 3 with 36 different possible endings, 12 world states and three fully playable epilogues"
Liberali Fatali in the opening battle with Seifer... incredible.
Also I think Triple Triad is my favourite FF minigame
It's amazing how well the pre-rendered backgrounds hold up, 15 years later. Even the character models don't look THAT bad on a Vita.
Perhaps some context is in order - this was taken from a larger interview about the Xbox One and Twitch launching on the platform; everything discussed in this interview relates to that. Perhaps this could have been reflected better in the body of the article, though. Apologies if this came across as deceitful or misleading - that was never the intention.
