I have a feeling that generalizing when it comes to the site's userbase is unproductive.

The discussion here is about 8-year-old console hardware potentially forcing developers and publishers into compromising their titles' possibilities in their quest to chase a larger pot of money.

All anyone has to understand in this equation with regards to hardware is that the 8 year old consoles are limited in ways that the newer machines are not.

What is good, given the sales ratios of previous gen to current gen with titles such as Watch_Dogs, is that the publishers' arguments about "not leaving money on the table" are already rapidly vapourizing. There will come a time when even having a team of a dozen or so working to port down to the previous gen (as has been the case recently) will not be profitable - catering to the previous gen and its limitations will be unprofitable much sooner than publishers envisaged - and t...

and you get 2 extra codes for your friends, so you can form a fire team. Basically, there should be nobody unable to get in, the interwebs will be awash with codes by the time the beta opens.

@Darkstares That all depends on how that "hard work" manifests. If it's investing in first party, building titles from the ground up, tailored to the hardware's strengths and weaknesses, nobody can or should complain. If it's throwing money at 3rd parties for exclusivity, not so much.

Seemed likely with Adam Boyes tweeting their kickstarter the other day.

I always saw Nintendo as having the most stringent QA regarding 3rd party software on their platforms. Looks like it doesn't quite hold up in the eShop.

@asmith "So they were coding GPU code without having access to debug logs and profilers in the first place? That sounds like rubbish to me."

Your assumption is flawed. Of course not. The original GPU debug/profiling tools were not up to the standard of other parts of the SDK. The information is out there, go find it. Start with SN Systems twitter and facebook, from there find their individual employees. From there follow back through their tweets/posts. Use those an...

Can't fault any of your thinking.

Fair enough, but ND is not the be-all and end-all, there are parts of Sony dedicated to the tools side of things.

Razor is an SN Systems tool. They're a mostly UK-based Sony team (Bristol is HQ, staff at Sony London and Cambridge, Dublin Ireland and also in the US) who work with all the Sony studios and 3rd parties in creating and expanding the PlayStation SDKs.

Here's a blog post regarding Razor: 3995d ago 29 agree1 disagreeView comment

@ SuperBlunt "Let the optimizing commence!"

It already has!

I made mention of the new version of Razor about a couple of weeks ago in a kind-of related post on N4G. I'd been hearing things from a few different sources regarding a Sony team doing a tour of studios and this being something of a highlight of the talks, so I took it upon myself to follow a few fb and twitter accounts to keep an eye on things. That was when I found out it was more th...

But you still get to listen to that music at least :)

I never deleted the betas from my ps3s (Killzones, Ridge racer, etc.) I just let them sit there, taking up space and unusable but just didn't like the idea of deleting. Yeah, I know, weird.

To be fair to mcarsehat, he's getting a lot of disagrees but he's on point. Destiny contains a lot of content, a subset of which is very much in the same vein as the Borderlands games.

Destiny is something which the next installment of Borderlands will be compared with for obvious reasons. That in itself is no doubt a scary prospect for Gearbox, as anyone who played the non-PvP parts of the Destiny Alpha can attest to. The nickname "Bungielands" didn't a...

@Axios2 titanfall came out about 3.5 months after the console launch, not 5 months (Nov 22 to March 11).

xbox one was possibly 4m sold through to customers by the end of March, but not likely at the start of it or during (based on 3.9m + 1.2m -sold-to-retail- figures from ms' reports in Q3 and Q4). Popular opinion had those 3.9+1.2 sold-to-retail figures equating to approx. 4.1-4.2m sold through to customers by the end of March.

I am not sure where you ge...

@Guru You are aware that you can use voice commands with your ps4's UI if you're that way inclined?

Interesting stuff. Used to enjoy reading about legendary Atari dumpster dives in the distant past, the kinds of escapades that resulted in prototype finds etc., so was fun watching some of the videos of these Game Stop dumpster divers linked in the article, even if their finds are somewhat less epic and mostly just junk... have to question why so many points cards and receipts with valid codes simply get binned.

Destiny and NHL15 are both September, TLOU:R is out at the end of this month, there's about 7 weeks between them. There's the month "August" I think you're overlooking :-)

The Destiny Beta is soon, but that'll likely be over or all but by the time TLOU:R drops.

It's not a slap in the face at all, no, and you have to question those spouting it.

I understand your thinking re: the discount for early ps3 purchasers, but really the game is already widely available at a decent discount from the originally quoted RRP/MSRP.

My copy of TLOUR was pre-ordered for under £30 at Game Stop, already £10 less than I paid for the day 1 ps3 copy, and this one has the DLC and ps4's vastly improved visuals. The value i...
