Stay tuned later this week for Windows Central's exclusive: the best Xbox for NOT playing disks...
I'd think a Switch BUILT INTO a VR headset would be amazing, even with graphical compromises. I know it's easier said than done, but Nintendo is creative and can do a lot with limited horsepower, especially with the cartoony games...
I HATE IT!.........I hate it.........(I hate it).....
There are multiple ways to get to all digital... Killing off physical media by slowly reducing customer demand for it is one way. Marketing SAD type devices, streaming solutions, and subscription services are steadily serving that purpose. When all but a minority of people are happily digital only, we'll see the console makers eliminate physical. They all want to for obvious reasons...
Yes ahead of their time... We see that clearly now, with the magnificent Xbox One with a piece of plastic molded over where the disk drive used to be. Pure genius.
It sounds like you really like your X. So for you, ok, it's a generational leap. In terms of conventional wisdom on what a generational leap is from a hardware perspective, it's just not. Especially not due to a 4k Blu Ray drive that doesn't improve gaming at all.
My guess is that psvr1 will work with all PSVR2 games, but there will be some VR games that require a PS5 to run. They have to be careful to keep it from getting too confusing for the non techie customers.
@Rainslacker - you're describing the stuff I said is expected: PSVR1 titles running using PSVR2 hardware on PS5. Having PSVR1 and PSVR2 hardware support on the same platform is a different story. Sure the low level apis will be backwards compatible but the old hardware and tracking logic has to be carried forward to PS5 firmware.
I expected PSVR titles to work with PSVR2, but when you think about having the PS5 support the design decisions of psvr1, I'm pleasantly surprised they're going that far. Assuming PSVR2 will have a completely different tracking mechanism, PS5 will have to support the legacy light/camera approach. So all that "old" calibration and setup software needs to be a part of the new UX. And how about the controllers? I kinda doubt the new ones will have tracking lights if they're...
@skoota your're over simplifying. You don't know how bad it would be if the X also happened to be less powerful than the Pro. Would the sales be worse? If so, it's a factor ..
You're really calling your credibility into question if you think Xbox one x is a generational leap over the PS4 pro. Are you trying to be serious?
It's not ALL about power, but surely power is a factor
Agree with the "not just fanboys" comment. I'd guess a really large % of customers have been sticking with the brand they've been using over the years. Parents, casual gamers, etc. They had a 360, got a one, and will most likely buy the next Xbox.
I agree. To me these look like the little PR games the companies play with each other to stay in a favorible light with media. Perhaps even to get the competition to reveal plans early. For example, now MS might feel pressured to give out some more info at e3 to give people the perception that the next Xbox will be better, and that info might be useful to Sony's planning...
The official announcement of a product is the "thunder" that, if successful, gets media and customers excited. MS plans to have some "thunder" at E3 I guess if you think that's a lmao moment there's no point in trying to explain the subtle brilliance in HOW Sony just did that. Bliss in...
If there were 2 offerings $50 apart, it would just be differentiated by the size of the SSD, not power. I kinda doubt they'll go in with two different CPU/GPU/memory configurations out of the gate, and if in the off chance they did, it would have to be at least $100 difference. Otherwise it's not worth the confusion...
Yea stole their thunder as in: what are they going to announce at e3 that will top this?
I agree it stole MS thunder without really revealing much. MS shouldn't take the bait and they should stay mum until they're closer to reveal, but that's not really their MO...
Exactly. Sell at a loss because MS will make up for it in high margin digital purchases and services.
Right. I mean if Cerny were to go up there and talk a bit about the customization/partnership with AMD for a PS5 chipset, I don't know if I'd call that a full reveal at this point. We may be getting bits and pieces of info prior to the full reveal that has pictures, prices, and dates....
