Capcom Once Considered Nathan Drake As Street Fighter X Tekken Character

The PlayStation version of Street Fighter X Tekken boasts some pretty awesome exclusive characters; one of them being Cole Mcgrath from the infamous series. Seth Killian, community director for Capcom, told PlayStation blogcast that they originally thought about using Nathan Drake from the Uncharted series.

And after a short reflexion they said : If we do it why not sell it in a DLC ?

/high five

jmobley4811d ago

don't think it'll happen, but I do expect a re-release of some kind -_-

oli4811d ago

^yes, i want this game, but i'm holding off on it because of the re-release. that limited edition is tempting me to get it more.

LOGICWINS4811d ago

I don't understand. Why do people even bother buying Capcom games Day 1 when they know that there will be a COMPLETE edition somewhere down the line?

Baka-akaB4811d ago (Edited 4811d ago )

wich part of people wanna play a fighting game , not eternally wait (at least 6 months ) for a potential reedition , is that hard to understand ?

When you care it's still many months lost waiting , and what if it doesnt even happen over a year and were just dlc extensions , till they repackage it ?

You got easily deals bringing all new game half prices one month later at least to 39 dollars . and when a new version arrives , they arent full price anymore , and you can trade your old copy .

People buy all kind of crap all year long , including 10-15 hrs long games , and they wanna question the raw value of fighting games ?

@ LOGICWINS

Well maybe because I want to play the game now instead of in 2013. NO ONE who actually knows how to play fighting games complains about a revision a year later. Fighting games are more about gameplay than other genre and that is what true fighting gamers buy these games for.

Sf4 took hundreds of hours of my gaming life and by the time super came out I was more than happy to put £20 down for a refined and even more content packed experience which has extended my gameplay for 3 years.

@Baka

The problem is casuals just want to judge fighting games like they are any other genre. "durr how long is the story, teh modes, I want 100 characters".

A fighting game is simply an arena with rules and the characters are tools, the gameplay is not derived from content, it comes from what you get out of the tools given to you. Just so happens Capcom are the best in this genre to a level that many wont ever comprehend.

@Logicwins

How is Capcom updating a game taking advantage ?, you do realise that with fighting games, updates are decided based on the players demand for it?

Like I said, you cant judge a fighting game like some casual skilless FPS. It is a tool set and as the community play, the game evolves to a stage that you could never of seen at the start, therefore things need changing and updating.

SF4 itself was only made because of the fighting game community begging for it for 10 years. What's the difference between spending $20 for a substantial update to a game I play all year round and buying expansions at £10-£15 a time for massively overrated games like Skyrim, which gets a free pass because the point is only relevant to a game you dont understand?

I have a job and £20 to extend my favourite game for another 2 years is a drop in the ocean. Stop being so cheap.

Baka-akaB4811d ago (Edited 4811d ago )

If you are that obsessed by it , you can simply manage to buy the original game cheap + plus the sure to be discounted re-release for roughly the price of a full game , at worst 10 dollar more (wich many of guys spend anyway on dlc for other games).

You guys need to stop pretending you're buying a total of 2*x60 dollars games each fighting game franchise

LOGICWINS4811d ago (Edited 4811d ago )

"Sf4 took hundreds of hours of my gaming life and by the time super came out I was more than happy to put £20 down for a refined and even more content packed experience which has extended my gameplay for 3 years."

facepalm/

It's people like you that allow EA, Activision, and Capcom to take advantage of gamers. Publishers have the right to release a better version of the game 6-12 months later...but that doesn't mean that gamers have to allow it.

You realize that we COULD have that refined/content packed version of the game the FIRST time around(as free DLC) if we as gamers band together and start protesting this on Capcom's forums.

If we threaten to buy used, and ACTUALLY follow through on it, six months down the line we can get all the new characters and a rebalanced game via patch for FREE.

"People buy all kind of crap all year long , including 10-15 hrs long games , and they wanna question the raw value of fighting games ?"

I'm against people who buy 10-15 hrs long games as well...they drop the standards of the entire industry.

"A fighting game is simply an arena with rules and the characters are tools, the gameplay is not derived from content, it comes from what you get out of the tools given to you. Just so happens Capcom are the best in this genre to a level that many wont ever comprehend."

OKAY...lets say Capcom are the best in the genre. Don't you see that they are taking advantage of this status by releasing a game that they know full well will be improved upon in the coming months?

Instead of releasing a $20 rebalanced game with more characters in 6 months...wouldn't it make more sense to simply delay the game 6 months and include ALL the the improvements and additions the first time around?

"You got easily deals bringing all new game half prices one month later at least to 39 dollars . and when a new version arrives , they arent full price anymore , and you can trade your old copy"

Fair point.

Baka-akaB4811d ago (Edited 4811d ago )

Idealism is swell and all , but let's be real for a sec .

In the current climate , the rebalance and moves changes are basically free , and given with extra sold such as new modes and characters .

It's too easy to call devs lazy when they do add tons of stuff requiring paid work afterward . A character is not some kind of magic generic 3d model puppet you add a skin too and moves around . Even palette swap chars got new moves and require works too

And it seems plenty here miss the point of rebalances . It's not as if there is some purposely broken build , sometime the game aint even broken actually all things considered . But as a highly competitive field , skills , people and strategy evolves , thus the game need to evolve too.

There are even cases where the game needs to rebalance whatsoever , but keep doing it to refresh the game and renew interest (as seen with a few of the guilty gear or blazblue editions )

Hell i dont even care about the genre discussed , no one is going to give you every extra freely afterward . Who even does that ? Mmos , wich you usually subs to anyway , or the nice folks at CD projekt wich are vastly ignored and underselling compared to guys like Bioware .

i'll keep being self centered and play a game instead of waiting for some nonsensical what if scenario . It's not gonna happen , the gate was open and flooded the minute people accepted the first dlcs packs .

And there also something quite important and usually ignored in such debates . Fighting games thrives as much on real life encounters than online now .
Usually if your into fighting games , and got a community , you'll move around a lot , at friends home or at tournaments .

You can't just go around bringing some incomplete disc and dl dlcs and patches everywhere you go . Hell you can't even do that as limited by the accounts whatever the console chosen .

So chances are , you'll want a new disc soon with every extra added . And of course newcomers get to own the latest version available .

And like said above , all in all , be it capcom , Arcsys , Midway , namco or whatever , when they repackage , usually you just end up paying a full game when adding stuff up , if savvy enough .

Well if MVC can put anyone in the game why not this one. Nathan Drake is no more crazy then Frank West or Phoenix Wright or Rocket Raccoon

Smashbro294811d ago

Rocket Racoon would kick the ever loving shit out of Drake.

SavageKuma4811d ago

It would be better than Pacman, Fat Megaman or those two cats. Hell why not put some naughty dog characters in it lol. Would not mind doing some combos with Sly Cooper.

nyobzoo4811d ago

would've been very interesting to see his move sets

Tanir4811d ago

would probably play a bit similar to Chris Redfield in MVC

DFogz4811d ago

Baseball-slide to nut-punch, the only move you'll need :)

josephayal4811d ago

Take my money capcom-sony, $25 for drake

Street Fighter X Tekken - A Look Back at the Franchise's Biggest Misfire

With Street Fighter 6 now upon us, it's time to look back at some classic Street Fighter titles, beginning with Street Fighter X Tekken.

boing1698d ago

It was a cool gamble imo. In reality, everyone were waiting for Namco version, Tekken X Street Fighter.

Ryuha1234h698d ago

I don’t know. I enjoyed this game. I thought it was a great crossover.

TricksterArrow698d ago (Edited 698d ago )

Yep, played very little of it, but from what I played, it was serviceable enough. Could've been better? Yes, but then again, you can say that about pretty much anything.

maniacmayhem698d ago

What killed this game was their planned reliance on GaaS with the whole gem system. It made little sense and made the game extremely unbalanced. Not to mention the unbalance of most of the characters, especially on the Tekken side

Sgt_Slaughter698d ago

Ahhh the game that Capcom had DLC on the disc on release yet you had to pay to unlock it

Street Fighter & Tekken - A Mash-Up Not Meant for Greatness

VGChartz's Daniel Parker: "Tekken and Street Fighter - two giants of the head-to-head fighting genre. A clashing of decades-old titans that was once thought to be a dream matchup that would never happen. It ignited a flame of excitement that quickly fizzled out and became a cautionary tale for game developers."
